**[Flywheel](https://findstack.com/go/flywheel)'s agency plan hosts 30 WordPress sites for $2,900 a year — about $97 per site, against $300 on the single-site plan. What the cards do not make obvious is that the resources behind each site shrink as you climb.** Sites rise **30×** across the range; total storage rises only **5×** and bandwidth **10×**. So Starter gives one site 10 GB, while Agency gives each of thirty sites about **1.7 GB**.

- **What it is**: [Managed WordPress hosting](https://findstack.com/software/managed-hosting-providers) aimed at designers and agencies, part of the WP Engine family.
- **Best for**: Agencies and freelancers running many small client sites.
- **Pricing**: $300, $1,150 or $2,900 a year. Verified July 2026.
- **The honest catch**: Storage per site falls sixfold from Starter to Agency.

## What Is Flywheel?

Flywheel is **managed WordPress hosting built for creatives and agencies** — designers, developers and studios running client sites. It emphasises workflow rather than raw infrastructure: staging, site cloning, billing transfer to clients and collaboration tooling, on top of managed hosting with **FlyCache** and PHP 8.2. It now sits within the **WP Engine** group alongside Local, ACF, NitroPack and StudioPress.

Each card shows the annual price divided by twelve.

## How Flywheel Works

- **Three plans**, plus custom.
- **Priced by sites and visits.**
- **"2 months free"** is exact.
- **Storage per site falls** as you scale.
- **Custom plans** above 30 sites.
- **Prices vary by server location.**

![Bar chart of Flywheel's cost per site per year: $300 on Starter, $115 on Freelance and $96.67 on Agency.](https://assets.findstack.com/apubc65ivqied2j6nl5gyro6z69n)

What actually decides your cost:

- **"Includes 2 months free!" is exactly two months free, on all three plans.** Monthly rates are **$30, $115 and $290**; annual prices are **$300, $1,150 and $2,900**. Each annual figure is precisely ten months of the monthly rate, saving **$60, $230 and $580** — a genuine **16.7%**. Every tier reconciles to the cent, which is not something this review series can say often.
- **The per-site economics are the real pitch, and they are strong.** Annually, a site costs **$300 on Starter, $115 on Freelance and $96.67 on Agency** — roughly a **threefold** improvement across the range. For an agency billing clients for hosting, that gap is the business case: thirty sites at under $100 each a year is competitive managed WordPress hosting.
- **But the resources behind each site shrink sharply as you scale.** Sites rise **30×** from Starter to Agency while **storage rises only 5×** and **bandwidth 10×**. Per site that means **10 GB on Starter, 2 GB on Freelance and about 1.7 GB on Agency** — a sixfold reduction. The plans are designed for portfolios of small brochure sites, not thirty content-heavy ones. If your client sites carry large media libraries, storage will bind long before the site count does.
- **Visits scale better than storage but still not with site count.** **25,000 to 400,000 monthly visits** is a **16×** rise against a 30× rise in sites — so per site the allowance falls from **25,000 to about 13,300** visits a month. That is still generous for typical small-business sites, and per 1,000 visits the cost improves from **$1.00 to $0.61**. Traffic is the resource Flywheel scales most fairly.
- **The annual card shows the annual price divided by twelve, not a monthly rate.** Starter reads **"$25/MO — Billed at $300/year"**: $300 ÷ 12 = $25 exactly. Freelance shows **$96** for $1,150 ($95.83) and Agency **$242** for $2,900 ($241.67). The labelling is accurate — it clearly says "Billed at $X/year" — but the number you would actually pay each month if you chose monthly billing is **$30, $115 or $290**, which only appears once you switch the toggle.
- **The middle tier is the expensive step.** Starter to Freelance costs **$850 more a year** for **9 extra sites** — about **$94 per additional site**. Freelance to Agency costs **$1,750 more** for **20 extra sites** — about **$88 each**. Both are reasonable rates per site, but note that the first upgrade nearly quadruples your bill. If you have two or three client sites rather than ten, the jump from $300 to $1,150 is steep, and there is no intermediate tier.
- **Above 30 sites there is no published price.** The **Custom** option covers **"30+ sites"** and **"millions+"** of visits with custom storage and bandwidth, sold through a **Get Started** contact flow. So the published ladder ends at Agency, and larger portfolios are a quote.
- **Prices depend on where your server is.** The page states plainly that **"Prices are in USD and may vary depending on server location."** No location-based rate card is published, so the figures above should be treated as the baseline rather than a guarantee for every region.
- **The affiliate link tracks correctly.** Following `/go/flywheel` passes through `share.getf.ly` and `app.getflywheel.com/r/…` before landing on the pricing page, setting **`user_id`** and **`shadower_id`** cookies on `.getflywheel.com`. Attribution is working even though the final URL carries no visible referral parameters.

## Who Should Use Flywheel

- **Agencies with client portfolios.** The clearest case — 30 sites at under $100 each a year.
- **Freelance web designers.** Ten sites for $1,150, with billing transfer to clients.
- **Designers who want managed WordPress.** Staging, cloning and caching handled for you.
- **Single-site owners wanting managed hosting.** $300 a year with 10 GB to itself.

It fits poorly for media-heavy sites, where per-site storage on the upper tiers is thin; for anyone with two or three sites, since the step from Starter to Freelance nearly quadruples the bill; and for portfolios above 30 sites, which have no published price.

## Honest Pros and Cons

### Strengths

- **"2 months free" is exact** on every tier.
- **Under $100 per site per year** at agency scale.
- **Monthly billing option** clearly offered.
- **Visit allowances are generous** for small business sites.
- **Agency workflow tools** — staging, cloning, client billing transfer.
- **Backed by the WP Engine group.**

### Limitations

- **Storage per site falls sixfold** from Starter to Agency.
- **No tier between 1 and 10 sites.**
- **Starter to Freelance nearly quadruples** the bill.
- **Above 30 sites is quote-only.**
- **Prices vary by server location**, unpublished.
- **The monthly rate is hidden** behind the toggle.

## Flywheel Alternatives and How It Compares

- **[WP Engine](https://findstack.com/go/wp-engine)** is the same group's enterprise-facing managed WordPress platform.
- **[Kinsta](https://findstack.com/go/kinsta)** competes directly on managed WordPress performance.
- **[SiteGround](https://findstack.com/go/siteground)** offers managed WordPress at lower entry prices.
- **[GreenGeeks](https://findstack.com/go/greengeeks)** is far cheaper shared hosting with a bigger renewal jump.
- **[Hostinger](https://findstack.com/go/hostinger)** targets budget buyers rather than agencies.

## The Verdict

Flywheel is priced for agencies, and the arithmetic backs that up. At **$2,900 a year for up to 30 sites** the Agency plan works out at **$96.67 per site**, against **$115** on Freelance and **$300** on Starter — a threefold improvement in per-site cost across the range. For a studio billing clients for hosting, that is the whole case, and it is a good one. The billing is honest too: **"Includes 2 months free!"** is exactly two months free on every tier, with monthly rates of **$30, $115 and $290** against annual prices of **$300, $1,150 and $2,900** — a clean **16.7%** that reconciles to the cent.

The caveat the plan cards do not surface is what sits behind each of those sites. **Sites rise 30× from Starter to Agency, but storage rises only 5× and bandwidth 10×.** Per site that means **10 GB on Starter, 2 GB on Freelance and roughly 1.7 GB on Agency** — a sixfold reduction in the space each site gets. These plans are shaped for **portfolios of small brochure sites**, and they suit that well. Load them with photography portfolios, media libraries or WooCommerce catalogues and storage will bind long before you approach the site limit. Visits scale more fairly, falling only from 25,000 to about 13,300 per site, and per 1,000 visits the cost actually improves from **$1.00 to $0.61**.

The gap in the ladder is worth planning around. There is **no tier between one site and ten**, so a freelancer with two or three client sites faces a jump from **$300 to $1,150 a year** — nearly quadruple — with no intermediate option. Measured per additional site the upgrades are reasonable (**about $94 and $88 each**), but only if you actually fill them. Above thirty sites the published pricing stops entirely and **Custom** is a sales conversation.

Two smaller notes. The annual cards display the **annual price divided by twelve** — "$25/MO — Billed at $300/year" — which is clearly labelled but is not what you would pay monthly; the real monthly rates appear only after switching the toggle, and that toggle is rendered as an image rather than text. And Flywheel states that **"prices may vary depending on server location"** without publishing a regional rate card, so treat the figures above as a baseline rather than a quote.

## FAQ

### How much does Flywheel cost?

Three published plans, in US dollars as captured July 2026. Billed annually: **Starter $300, Freelance $1,150 and Agency $2,900 a year** — displayed on the cards as $25, $96 and $242 a month. Billed monthly they are **$30, $115 and $290**. A **Custom** plan covers 30+ sites with no published price. Flywheel notes that prices may vary depending on server location.

### Is Flywheel's "2 months free" claim accurate?

Yes, exactly, on all three plans. Monthly rates of **$30, $115 and $290** give twelve-month totals of $360, $1,380 and $3,480, against annual prices of **$300, $1,150 and $2,900** — savings of **$60, $230 and $580**, which is precisely two months in each case. That works out at a genuine **16.7%** discount for paying annually.

### How many sites can I host on Flywheel?

**1 on Starter, up to 10 on Freelance and up to 30 on Agency**, with a Custom plan for 30+. Note that resources do not scale in step: total storage rises only from **10 GB to 50 GB** across that range, so storage **per site** falls from **10 GB to about 1.7 GB**. The plans suit portfolios of small sites rather than a few large ones.

### Which Flywheel plan is best value?

Per site, **Agency** — **$96.67 per site per year** against $115 on Freelance and $300 on Starter. But value depends on filling it. There is **no tier between 1 and 10 sites**, so a freelancer with two or three client sites must jump from **$300 to $1,150 a year** to get past Starter, which is nearly a fourfold increase for capacity they may not use.

### Does Flywheel limit traffic?

Yes, by monthly visits: **25,000 on Starter, 100,000 on Freelance and 400,000 on Agency**, alongside bandwidth caps of **50 GB, 200 GB and 500 GB**. Traffic is the resource that scales most fairly across the range — cost per 1,000 monthly visits falls from **$1.00 to $0.61** — though per site the visit allowance still drops from 25,000 to roughly 13,300.
