Unclaimed: Are are working at Snowflake ?
Data sharing within our organization is simplified with Snowflake. It's fast and it has everything we need to make our jobs easier.
It's expensive but when you need an enterprise solution, you pay an enterprise price.
Getting all our data in one location
Snowflake does a lot to remove the time consuming aspects of DB adminstration and management and streamlines a lot of its functionality eliminating developer overhead.
Cost management and querying metadata can quickly become cumbersome without soliod forethought and planning
Reducing silos and overhead from managing multiple SQL Servers. Creating a unified Data Warehouse.
Snowflake is one of the best data warehouse tool out there. It is super easy to use, so gone are the days of menotinous DBA tasks needing to be done. The pricing model is based on pay-for-what-you-use and is very cost efficient. You have total control over how much compute power you use, with incredible scalability. Every query can use a different size compute engine if you want! In addition, they have built in stored procedures, triggers, events, etc to make ELT easier. They also have a service called SnowPipe which allows you to easily create real-time streaming from common storage locations such as S3 and Azure Blob.
The new GUI is still difficult to get used to. It used to be much cleaner/simpler of an interface but along with more and more capabilities, you sometimes need to have more and more complex interface. With all that said however, you don't have to use the GUI. Everything you can do in the GUI can be done in any ODBC/JDBC compliant data tool you like to use.
Snowflake is the perfect tool for having a powerhouse data warehouse that is strong enough for fortune 50 companies to use, yet simple enough for anyone with minimal data warehousing experience.
Easy Growth: Scales effortlessly as needs change. Smooth Sharing: Many users without slowdowns. Mixes Data Well: Blends different data types seamlessly.
None that I can think of, super satisfied with its technical capabilities. Price is definitely higher side for startups.
Building seamless data analytics combining all SAAS platforms data at one place.
Easy to integrate with other tools, Cloud based, Multicluster warehouse, Stremlit,Snowflake Marketplace
Not cost effective and can not use Locally, need good infrastructure
Creating data model , Writing views for Reporting, Continuous data processing
Snowflake's architecture is build for scalability. The data sharing capabilities are exceptional; ot requires literally zero maintainince. I would rate Snowflake the best out there in terms of easy of use, support and value for money. Pretty much everything about Snowflake is great!
The only disadvantage I can see is it being slightly expensive. If you're a very early stage organization, I wouldn;t recommend spending a lot until you have a 5-6 person data team to set up the infrastructure.
I use Snowflake as a central place to manage, modify, combine and organize data. Snowflake acts as a central hub to pull in and push data to various tools and our CRM (Salesforce).
I personally love having a contact a Snowflake that reaches out to me proactively and informs me of upcoming changes, configurations needed, etc. It seems like a very soft-core DWH tech which mostly aims to lower the barrier (and cost) for entry rather than offer the best DWH. I can see Redshift, Postgres, SQL Server etc. all be better if you have the necessary skills to manage it and money is not a big deal.
There's a bit of a learning curve when it comes to understanding roles and access permissions, but Snowflake has a lot of documentation out there for it (which I find easier to understand than other DB's documentation).
If we want new features with SQL Server, we'd have to go through the process of upgrading it to the next version and doing all of the testing necessary (etc etc), but with Snowflake, new features get rolled out as they come, and they're available for use if you want to use them
Very nice online User interface. A lof new features appear every year.
Not so cheap. Moreover, it's not so easy to understand a real cost, because there are some background prosses that exist.
Nice performance, low latency, big concurrency, and good scalability.
