Freemake Reviews: 3.9/5 — Good for the Price
Freemake is a Windows-based suite of freemium multimedia tools (notably Freemake Video Converter) for video and audio conversion, downloading, DVD/Blu-ray burning and ripping, slideshows and simple editing. It targets home users and amateur creators who need straightforward format conversion and basic editing; a free tier offers core functionality with visible limitations (watermarks, speed throttling) while paid packs remove branding and unlock premium features.

Freemake Pros and Cons
- Easy to use with a shallow learning curve
- Supports many popular input/output formats and device presets
- Free version provides core functionality (convert, burn, rip) permanently
- Commercial/business licensing with lifetime upgrades and volume discounts
- Free version includes a large watermark, welcome screen and speed throttling
- Premium pricing is relatively high compared to competitors for similar feature sets
- Limited support for some modern codecs (HEVC/AV1) per reviews
- Windows-only desktop software (no macOS/Linux desktop support)
- Installer may include optional bundled offers/adware that require opt-out
It's easy to use. It also offers a wide range of file formats to convert. It also is flexible enough to handle video and audio files with many different output codecs.
It offers some editing capabilities but it would be great if those were expanded. That would help in instances where I don't need to edit a full, new video but rather just need an extended clip.
Sometimes I'm given video files that don't work natively with our editing software. Freemake makes it very easy to convert the original source into a video file that works.
On many occasions we editors must add content to help teachers in school activities. One way to do this is by proposing the use of videos as part of learning strategies. In this sense, I've been looking for multimedia content adapted to the degree and subject, so Freemake has been a great ally to download quickly and easily those videos that interest me, I can also convert them to other formats such as AVI, WMV, FLV , etc.
It's an excellent program that I have nothing to complain about.
Con este programa podemos bajar los videos que necesitamos como respaldo a algunas actividades de nuestros libros de manera fácil y rápida, sin complicación alguna.
- Simple interface (even pretty) - Enough options of codecs and formats to convert o reconvert all the videos - Very easy to use - Very good price if you decide to buy it! - Great speed converting - Very light program
- I hate the ads to install other of their programs - The video editor of the program (too simple!)
We know many video conversion programs, but all are often difficult to use and understand. Freemake Converter is simple, easy and we can choose the formats, quality, codec o resolution in a very easy way.
This is a great and simple tool to convert videos for youtube.
Sometimes, the convertor does not work, so i have to do it twice
Great tool to convert video easily to share with others
This is a nice program, it has as many video format as I need. It works pretty quick, it does not matter if you need to convert from or to any regular video format it will do it, in addition you will get videos from web and send them, specially when you need to post any to You Tube.
Sometimes audio and video get misaligned, in rare occasions fails.
I am saving time when editing large files.
Freemake imports most video, audio, image formats and outputs to all the key ones as well -- it's great to be able to convert videos. very easy to use. It can convert .avi, .mkv, .3gp, .mp4 and many more. the software is not only excellent for just videos its also very useful for audio files. the best one to use for free of cost. Download files from youtube, facebook and vimeo is also available. Freeware solution. has an ability to join audio/video files together easily, which is a great feature. One more important thing is there is an option for platform specific conversion, so you can convert to xbox, PS, windows, apple, andorid, oh even Nokia and Blackberry.it's easy to learn for novices and also has strong functionality.
nothing of that sort. just need to custom install the product instead of express install. there are lots of ads.
The dowloader was of most help for getting youtube videos offline. helps a lot is downloading and converting video and audio files.
The Best one of the lot. Simple & very easy to use, all the options are very clearly mentioned and easily accessible. Can convert to most of the formats. Very easy and intuitive program that lets you convert between all sorts of video formats as well as output a video to audio. The free version of the software and this fulfils my needs. Can convert .avi, .mkv, .3gp, .mp4, .mp3 and many more. One more important thing is there is an option for platform specific conversion, so you can convert to xbox, PS, windows, apple, andorid, oh even Nokia and Blackberry. There is an option for joining two different files while conversion so they linearly play as one, t The conversion also happens very smooth and happens fast, the directX acceleration feature is used for this. The downloader app is combined with this and makes a great package. It even has an ability to join audio/video files together easily, which is a great feature! And also, it's free!a simple approach to converting existing video files into alternate formats to be played on different devices. Download files from youtube, facebook and vimeo is also available. Freeware solution. Freemake imports most video, audio, image formats and outputs to all the key ones as well -- it's great to be able to convert videos so that they're watchable on your smartphone or kid's tablet (Vtech). Notably, it can also 'save' from online video portals such as youtube.
There is nothing much to dislike in this. The downloader although doesn't support all the website. but works great with youtube, facebook and vimeo
this software helped me a lot to carry the videos on my phone without any compromise in quality. I also converted some videos from my dvd in not time so that I am able to watch them on my phone, The dowloader was of most help for getting youtube videos offline.
I love that it is a free, and absolutely great video converter. Very quick, and awesome.
I dislike the marketing, and UI. It made it seem like it might be a virus hidden inside the software... but there isn't.
It allows me to convert videos, to efficiently edit and distribute the video in a low bitrate, or high bitrate mode if wanted.
The Product itself is so easy to use, all the options are so clearly mentioned and easily accessible. It can convert to most of the formats that many of our devices that we use daily support. I'm using the free version of the software and this sufficiently fulfils my needs. It can convert .avi, .mkv, .3gp, .mp4 and many more. One more important thing is there is an option for platform specific conversion, so you can convert to xbox, PS, windows, apple, andorid, oh even Nokia and Blackberry. There is an option for joining two different files while conversion so they linearly play as one, this feature is very helpful in converting old CD's that used to come in different discs*so much pain to change disks*. The conversion also happens very smooth and happens fast, the directX acceleration feature is used for this. The downloader app combined with this makes a great package.
There is nothing much to dislike in this. The downloader although doesn't support all the website. but works great with Youtube. Old prints and DVD conversions maybe a little problem with the aspect ratio.
It helped me carry the vids on my phone without any compromise in quality. I had a few DVDs that I needed to convert into new formats to watch on my Phone and TV, The software converted them all in no time. The dowloader was of most help for getting youtube vids offline.
It's easy to use plus it was a one time cost.
That audio is not included in the bundle.
The biggest thing it does is turn DVD into video files like Mp4s.
There are so many video formats, and Freemake makes it easy to convert between file types, and even allows to convert video to mp3 files.
I've had trouble converting files once or twice, but normally it works exactly as advertised.
I use videos in PowerPoint presentations, and PowerPoint only allows certain file types. Freemake allows me to convert to something that PowerPoint allows.
Excellent UI; Freemake imports most video, audio, image formats and outputs to all the key ones as well -- it's great to be able to convert videos so that they're watchable on your smartphone or kid's tablet (Vtech). Notably, it can also 'save' from online video portals such as youtube
I hope it expands the sites that it can 'convert' from…

The software is easy to install on your desktop and gives you the basic tools you need to convert video files to different formats and do basic edits. Its simple enough that little leaning is required.
Anything beyond the basic editing tools is not in Freemake's repertoire.
I needed to convert some AVIs to the MP4 format to fit on my kindle and I wanted to adjust the quality to minimize the size of the video files.
It comes with easy to use software and its user friendly. The multipurpose usability of this product is great. It can be used for Doawloading/Converting/Editing, which is great. As other apps/software does not provide all these in one.
The need to install/use different versions of the apps for different usage such as downloading, editing, converting is not very convenient. If we can use as all in one app, that would be great.
The basic need for editing and downloading videos. If you are just looking for basic needs, than this app is more than enough.
The customization of your video clip duration and even the codec settings is covered totally under this product. The best part is the file size compression or file size control functionality which was really unique and comes really handy for fast renders and quick previews.
In the previous version, there were some issues regarding the audio video sync if we would change the audio settings or the codec maybe. However, surprisingly this problem hasn't occured since the last update I guess.
All kinds of preview conversions for client approval before final render are being converted using freemake's product by me. The consistency in the performance since last 5+ years is something I loved to stick to.
Very easy and intuitive program that lets you convert between all sorts of video formats as well as output a video to audio. It even has an ability to join audio/video files together easily, which is a great feature! And also, it's free!
I don't like how the installer (in an express install) tries to change your browser settings, but that may be the price you pay for a free program.

a simple approach to converting existing video files into alternate formats to be played on different devices. Download files from youtube, facebook and vimeo is also available. Freeware solution.

Freemake is a very good video editor and converter. I can covert different video formats to another type.
There is not anything that I do not like about this program.
I am able to edit, cut, and add videos. I can also convert videos from one format to another format.
It is fast, powerful and stable in converting videos. It also supports video conversion between many video types.
I dislike the removal of HTML5 video conversion option in the updated versions.
It is very useful to convert large mkv files to HTML5 mp4, ogv and webm files.
Freemake is a free tool having many things to like. It supports multiple formats like MP4, MKV, AVI etc., allowing seamless conversions between them. It has support for basic video editing options like cropping, trimming, adding subtitles etc. It also has the option to download videos from popular platforms like youtube facebook etc. It is a good package for someone who has to do light video editing.
Some things that I dont like about freemake: it's revenue is generated through ads, which can be irritating at times. Also, advance features are lacking, with occassional crasher and performance issues.
I usually need to casually edit videos, and using a full fledged video editor for this purpose was an overkill and with more features, editors becomes complicated to use and handle. So, it has been very beneficial for me. It has user friendly UI and less features, making it perfect for my use.
good reviews, modern interface, good reputation.
CRASHES AND NO REFUND (within 24h of purchase). Crashes when I convert a 3Gig 1920 x 1080 video file to a lower resolution (regardless of video format). This is occurs on 2 of my computers incl a 1 year old Lenovo Core i7 with 16G.. I asked for a refund (a measly $5), and they want me to correspond with them trying to debug why this is happening.. SORRY my time preoccupied with YOUR DEBUG is worth MUCH MORE than the $5 purchase fee.. So don't waste my time, and give me my refund.. But they are now bringing up Terms that say I have to partake in debugs before a refund.. GIMME A BREAK, it's only $5, not worth my time or your negative publicity.. (and here we are) Stop trying to use your customers as a debug team, esp when they don't want to solve the problem (for you), but would rather get on with their working day (which is what the software was bought for)..
None. The software crashes for what I needed it for.
Hard to find anything that I like after having a charge made to my credit card without my permisssion. 0/10 - I DO NOT recommend.
The deceitful sales model. DON'T DO the $1 trial - it is a scam.
The sales model is sleazy.
Relatively easy to use, very buggy. Keeps crashing
Not enough features, thumbnails for slide show tiny, only one track per slideshow available, keeps crashing. The rendering resolution is really crappy
Tried to make a slideshow but couldn't since it only allowed to use one music track. Resolution is crappy
Their deception of going through freemake, but creating an account in fastspring to confuse their customers.
Everything about the software. Useless!!
I have learned that they charge you even when you do not authorize it.
