I change anything I want about at any time via my own code or common packages. All keybind mappings are configured with a simple JSON file which allows for a very customizable experience that is easy to transport to other environments
All packages are generally open source which can lead to some wonky interactions. That being said all packages are configurable to the point where you can often disable certain parts of them.
Cross org code standards, developers aren't locked to a machine because it can run off a thumb drive if need be. Being able to create a portable and repeatable ecosystem for developers on day one is a priceless thing in the day and age of rapid development and a new technology to deal with every day.
It's very customizable, you can tailor the IDE to your needs, even development upon the existing code base.
It's incapable of handling large files with easy, theres a bottleneck performing under heavy load.
I'm creating innovative solutions for cultural farming and deforestation of the amazon forest. The software is lightweight and runs smoothly most of the time and any device.
The plugins are amazing !! I love the layout and the live server. It makes web development super easy. I was using this as a collage student and now I use it at work! its the best!!!!!!
I do not have much that I done like . If I have to say the its the update of the project. That is when we change the branch in the github sometimes the project does not update properly which in turn leads to problem with git commit
I code everything the whole product in atom.
Atom is aesthetically pleasing and makes good use of keyboard shortcuts to cut the development time for an app down
I don't like how difficult it is to replace something in more than one file.
I am using it as my primary IDE and it has cut my development time by around 1 quarter
ATOM is easy to install and customize to your needs. I found it to be more intuitive then some of the other IDE's.
The updates to packages seem to be a constant issue, but I tend to let them pile up until I need to do a update then do them all as needed.
Simplify the development process and reduce errors.
I like my workflow and how it is set up. Atom makes everything easy. It has tons of built-in plugins that enable developers to do a lot of great things very quickly. You can use JS linters, Ruby auto-completion features, and loads more. I like Atom, in particular, for javascript development. It's really a light-weight IDE that can compete with other heavy hitters like VS Code, VS Studio, and even intellij's lineup.
I dislike some of the slowness sometimes because it is built with electron. Atom can get overloaded pretty easily and end up lagging. That's the main complaint that developers seem to have with it. Honestly, I've not really noticed that too often.
I’m able to code for all my work and do a great job. The plugins are really helpful and my workflow is able to go speedily.
I enjoy how easy it is to configure the editor with plugins. It's easy to add additional language plugins and tools such as linters to improve your development workflow.
I dislike that there is not a built-in SFTP client.
I am using Atom to develop websites and build tools to manage environments with Vagrant. Atom has given me a versatile, fast editor that I can use for both light and heavy development.
It's an incredibly adaptive piece of software that I can use for scripting quick hacks and not having to load up an entire development environment to code 100 lines of python. It also has the same plugins that these bigger environments have so its super lightweight AND functional. The color scheme is also pretty satisfying, along with the fact that you can choose your language simply by renaming the file.
There are some suggestion issues. I think it should retain some keywords for each file type. Whenever I program a python script it always suggests 'true' instead of 'True'. Having these established language keywords would make it much more functional and less frustrating at times. Navigating the settings is a little more confusing than I would like. I never know where to change anything as its not listed under preferences nor under its own tab. I wish that it would have its own button somewhere so I could install packages, disable the welcome screen, and adjust the color settings without having to google. Otherwise small qualms to how great the software is.
Solving on-the-fly and lightweight coding needs. Sometimes I need to drum up quick AWS scripts to solve an infrastructure issue and Atom is the best tool to write and quickly debug that code.
It's based on chrome, it's fully extensible and fast. Thanks to extensions, you can do whatever it is on your mind. E.G.: multicursor edit, easily rename a variable everywhere in your code, tree structure and so on. Best of all, it's free!!
It can become slow if you load too many extensions and doesn't have a native drag and drop way of copy pasting text. Also, many extensions might create conflicts in keyboard shortcuts.
