Motion is a great tool and has a lot of features, and it really helps with productivity.
I feel like the product is stuck and is not moving forward except for small updates here and there. The mobile app is nearly unusable, with no integration with other tools, and te customization features are very limited.
I can say that Motion is a great tool and has a lot of features, and it really helps with productivity
The fundamental ideas about Motion are good. When it works, it feels great. Specifically, being able to toss all my tasks & priorities into a bucket, and have a planned list for accomplishing them in a sane order, is a great feeling. The booking links are convenient as well, and the team features have potential.
The product has been highly buggy for years. They removed functionality - e.g. it used to be fast to navigate around the calendar with keyboard shortcuts - removed for some reason with no replacement. It's very expensive for what it is, support is slow to respond and is unhelpful, and it feels like the product barely improves over time. In addition, extremely basic features have been missing for ages - e.g. multi selecting todos for bulk actions. Want to add 10 tasks to a project? Open each one individually, hit the dropdown, hit the project - 10 times. Delete 10 tasks? Same thing. This is table stakes for a todo app, let alone a team todo app.
Was helping with calendar management and personal task & project management. I'm still using it as my calendar for the moment, but am actively looking for alternatives.
Timeblocking element and reduces admin workload
Huge problem with confidential information. The platform misses the ability to make the events private by default, for instance everyone in your team can see all your events visibility by default, you have to mark each of them private one by one. It would be good to make all events (across all your calenders) private by default so that your team members cannot see what you are doing, instead they see you are marked as "Busy".
Auto schedules tasks
Helps me lay out my day ahead of time with prioritizing tasks.
It really works the best when you know how much time a task will take.
While I have a general idea of how to prioritize things, sometimes getting the nitty gritty of which tasks to work on which days is difficult for me to wrap my head around. Motion does that thinking for me.
Re-plans dynamically and it automatically re-scheules unless you mark it as complete. Tasks flow arounf things in one or more other calenders - it's super helpful.
The phone app leaves a lot to be desired and some of it takes a little getting used to (such as how to make a task at a set time). It's also pricey for an individual, but probably well worth it when buying as a company.
Saves stacks of time with constantly having to re-plan and re-schedule tasks. Also helps put the priority tasks first. It's a good cross between a calander and a task list
Meetings manager, product manager and autoscheduling to-do tasks
It takes a bit of time to learn how it works
Being overwhelmed and constantly having to stop and re-plan my tasks and schedule which drove me mad
I tell Motion the factors to consider and Motion does the rest of the calculation! I get my day scheduled without worrying about conflicting events or moving tasks around manually. My calendar is constantly updated, reflecting my priorities and what I need to do next!
I wish they could tell us when new features are coming!
Motion helps me organize my schedules and keep track of important events and deadlines. My schedules are usually pretty busy, so having Motion helps me stay sane and keep things in perspective.
It saves me so much time shuffling meetings and timeblocks for tasks by automatically placing and optimizing all of them on my calendar. The algorithm for schedule management is so much more advanced vs. all other competitors I've tried.
It could add a few more integrations and functions, like adding more colors and style.
I have too many meetings and tasks to manage and I spent too much time just arrange and re-arrange my calendar each day. My day is managed much more efficiently with Motion.
The fact that I can quickly and easily share meeting availability from Motion is one of my favorite features, and it saves me a lot of back-and-forth emails. It also feels less impersonal than just sending a standard booking link. I also love that there is a desktop app, so I can open that in the morning without having to open my browser and immediately get distracted. Not having to reschedule tasks when something comes up manually is also a huge time saver.
For a while, Motion did not have recurring tasks, but now that they have built-in recurring tasks, I can't think of anything I don't like about Motion. It really has everything you need and nothing you don't.
Being able to quickly and easily share meeting availability and customize that meeting availability is a massive time saver, prevents back-and-forth emails, and feels much less impersonal than just firing off a standard booking link.
I am managing several businesses and non-profits. This means lots of differents emails, agendas, projects and tasks adding on top of each other every day. Motion has helped me organize all these different facets by combining them in a unique tool, and automate certain aspects such as planning meetings or scheduling tasks.
A monthly view of the calendar would be amazing. I also would prefer that the focus banner would stick on the screen when switching windows. The project management aspect would benefit from better visualisation tools, such as Gantt charts.
Motion allowed me to regroup all my activities into one unique tool. I ditched Todoist m, Google Agenda and use solely Motion for my planning. I still use Notion for the project managing, though. But Motion has saved me countless hours in scheduling meetings, remembering tasks and meeting deadlines. Recent updates have given us brilliant functionalities such as the travel time.
I like that there is a browser extension so that you can quickly add tasks to the list
I dislike that there aren't any integrations that I can find so that things don't need added manually every time there is a task. Wish I could link it to my task management app to directly push things over
I am enjoying being able to have tasks put into my calendar I'm more likely to do them if they're on my calendar and it's easy to find a time to do things
The automatic reordering of tasks to suit your priorities is really helpful - nothing else has it that I've seen and it's great to get the organisation out of your brain.
The project and task view is a little clunky and being able to sort by projects in the most helpful way for me has been using labels, which you need to go into each task fully to assign which could be better.
It helps the most with prioritisation and juggling a huge array of project, BAU and ad-hoc tasks which I have to juggle daily. It takes the organisation of that all out of my head which frees up time to do the work.
Motion's algorithim for prioritising work on the fly is the best I have seen on the market. Being able to manage my tasks & reminders while also managing to be mindful of work life balance is a god send.
The UI is more function over form and the mobile app could perform better but overall I am really happy with the tool
I run a busy product team and wear a few different hats in my role. Motion allows me to take work inputs from a variety of source and prioritise that work aganist the rest of my to do list. I can also set realistic expectations with stakeholders, and update those expectations if priorities shift.
Before Motion, I had to manually reschedule my week at least twice per day, due to random meetings popping up in my calendar. Now I just use that time for work, because Motion deals with the rescheduling, and tells me if something has to be reprioritised.
I would prefer the task titles to be visible on my Google Calendar, and sometimes I have to log in for no apparent reason, which gets annoying. I also do not particularly like the Android app, as it at times refuses to let me add new tasks.
It is basically making sure my work schedule is correctly prioritised and scheduled, and reschedules any task if a meeting drops into my calendar, which is amazing.
I love the easy functionality of using Motion to categorise and track my projects and tasks. I can do this using deadlines, priority and it keeps me on track by letting me know if a deadline is going to be passed. It will then automatically redorder my tasks. Takes the hard work out of project and task management. I also love that it includes a calendar schedular similar to calendly.
I preferred their cloud-based software as opposed to the desktop app now have as it seems to be grunty and takes up a lot of memory on my slower computers (not to so slow it doesn't work, but just sluggish). Also the seperate app means its something else to open as oposed to it always being open with chrome. I wish there was an option of both.
Not having to get a seperately calendar bookingf software. and tracking specific projects i need to complete. I also keep it as a dump bin for any and all task ideas I have but i just dont give them a priority.
Easy to 'brain dump' and get all of my quick to-dos in. Also helps minimize my worry about forgetting long term ideas that I have. I can put them in and circle back to them when they pop up.
I'd like to be able to create a maximum duration for work chunks for projects. For example, if I have a 40 hour task for a bigger project, where it indicates a minimum work block time (breaking in to less time) I'd like to be able to put a max time, rather than having to manually break the steps down even further.
Prioritization. Recall of long-term goals. Re-allocation of time, related to scheduling. Able to automate recurring tasks simply. Leading to less worry about forgetting or mismanaging resources.
Motion's ability to integrate calendars and tasks makes it an all-in-one solution for the workplace. The shortcuts and desktop app mean it easily becomes an integral part of your routine.
The product is still relatively young and could improve on some key features (like integrating iCloud calendars, having a project-filtered Kanban view etc.). Also, the pricing is relatively high (but worth it).
Integrating calendar and to-do lists, which makes it convenient to plan days/weeks of work; having a flexible meeting scheduler with a lot of customization options
What I appreciate most about Motion is the combination of its user-friendly interface and its extensive feature set. This software truly streamlines my daily tasks and significantly enhances my overall workflow. The user-friendly interface provides an intuitive and straightforward experience. Navigating through the calendar, scheduling events, and managing appointments has never been easier. Motion's thoughtful design and layout make it a breeze to access the information I need promptly, reducing any unnecessary time spent on administrative tasks. Moreover, Motion's robust feature set is a game-changer for me. It offers a wide range of tools that cater to various aspects of my calendar management. From scheduling recurring meetings to color-coding events for better organization, Motion covers all the bases. The ability to attach files, set reminders, and share calendars seamlessly with colleagues adds an extra layer of functionality that I find invaluable. In sum, Motion not only simplifies my work but also adds an element of enjoyment to my daily routine. Its user-friendly design and comprehensive features have transformed the way I manage my schedule, making it an essential tool for my professional life.
When it comes to Motion Calendar, what I find less favorable is the limited customization options for event reminders. It would be great to have more flexibility in setting up reminders according to my specific needs.
Motion goes above and beyond in transforming my daily routine by making it significantly more productive and proactive, ultimately leading to enhanced efficiency and effectiveness in managing my schedule and tasks.
Motion definitely helps me move more quickly from task to task since I don't waste so much time wondering what to do next or trying to get my work day organized.
It has some glitches - some recurring tasks (such as teaching for me) do not appear recurrently and I would like to be able to set my work vs personal schedule differently every day.
It makes it easier to maximize my time and it synchronizes with Outlook, so it's easier to plan meetings ahead.
Help me fix my calender whenever an emergency arises.
Would be useful to be able to link mails or documents, or add # directly in the quick Add task menu
helps me keep track of my deadline
