"A very well integrated source control system"
What do you like best about Bitbucket?

The integration with the rest of the Atlassian suite is brilliant when you're working at a company that uses JIRA, Confluence, Bamboo etc for everything else.

What do you dislike about Bitbucket?

The matching software, SourceTree, is a nice enough software but it's not very intuitive and I frequently find myself stumbling through using features.

What problems is Bitbucket solving and how is that benefiting you?

We moved from GitHub to Stash to allow more internal control on our source control, which Stash has enabled us to do with ease. It has also allowed us to connect with our stories in JIRA and our documentation in Confluence.

"A great solution if you're already in the Atlassian Eco System"
What do you like best about Bitbucket?

Some companies have become accustomed to housing their own source code repositories. While GitHub is all the rage (and deservedly so), Stash offers a nice on-premise solution for hosting Git repos. It provides a clean user interface for those transitioning to Git, but offers the same familiar command line interface if you simply want to ignore the GUI and use Git as it was intended to be. The application also interacts with JIRA nicely, referencing issues in a commit will link to the commit message to an issue or user story. It makes tracking the activity on a ticket easy and in some cases could serve as another piece of validation for audits. On top of integration with JIRA, you get the added benefits of a self-hosted solution like leveraging your single-sign-on tools. With single-sign-on and Stash, it can ease the off-boarding process for a user. Exposing infrastructure for web hooks is simplified because both servers can live on your trusted network.

What do you dislike about Bitbucket?

Unfortunately you get all of the headaches of self-hosted solutions. Now you have to worry about backups, security, disaster recovery etc; All time not spend on building your product. The GUI interface also has some defaults that are automatically checked, which wouldn't normally be part of the command line's default behavior. This can (and has) led to some accidental actions being taken when a checkbox isn't cleared. This is a failure of the GUI in my opinion as it should mimic defaults of the command line option.

What problems is Bitbucket solving and how is that benefiting you?

If you need an on-premise solution and are already using JIRA or other Atlassian products, then Stash is a no brainer. But if possible, I'd offload this work to someone else and focus on building your product instead of maintaining your tools. Atlassian offers a cloud hosted solution (bitbucket.org) and of course there's Github, both of whom offer private repositories.

"Bitbucket is yet another powerful tool from Atlassian"
What do you like best about Bitbucket?

Bitbucket provides unlimited private repositories for all your project needs. It includes everything from code repository to deployment services. It allows easier integration with other DevOps tools like Jenkins, Jira, etc.

What do you dislike about Bitbucket?

Bitbucket has all the DevOps features but it is still not the first option for larger, more complex projects. It loses its stability when the process becomes complex and heavy.

What problems is Bitbucket solving and how is that benefiting you?

1. Bitbucket provides more flexibility and allows importing repositories from different hosting services like Git, SVN, etc. 2. It provides issue tracking by easily integrating the Jira tool. 3. It helps in creating powerful CI/CD processes/pipelines.

"A nice alternative to Github"
What do you like best about Bitbucket?

I usually use Bitbucket when I want a project hosted on more than just Github. It's really easy to create repositories, push code from your computer, and manage branches.

What do you dislike about Bitbucket?

Bitbucket doesn't seem to have the same networking component that Github has. I don't think it's quite as popular for software developers creating portfolios.

What problems is Bitbucket solving and how is that benefiting you?

It's very easy to manage code through Bitbucket and it allows me to access my projects from multiple computers. Version control has been really useful for me when developing web applications.

"Good -but needs improvement"
What do you like best about Bitbucket?

The best part about bitbucket is its integrations with sister products like jira and confluence. Any commit made can be tagged with jira Id to track the issue and its developement progress. one more thing is webhook integrations are quite easy.

What do you dislike about Bitbucket?

One major issue is that it doesn't provide dark mode; it is a must for developers. Another is that it does not provide code spaces like github does not contain code search feature on the repo. Also not many open source projects are hosted here.

What problems is Bitbucket solving and how is that benefiting you?

Bitbucket is a version control software, seems specifically built for enterprises. bitbucket's advantage over other VCS is its easy integration with Jira, which makes easy not only to track code but to track the progress of the project.

"BitBucket is ok if you're in the Atlassian world, but it lacks features in other sites/products"
What do you like best about Bitbucket?

It's tightly integrated with the Atlassian suite. So, if I check in something to Bitbucket and mention a Jira ticket number in my commit description, Bitbucket will create a link in that Jira ticket automatically. That's pretty good.

What do you dislike about Bitbucket?

Its search is not so great. It can be tedious searching for things because the search options aren't fully-featured, you have to search for repos and code in repos separately, when you search for code it gives only a small number of results per page, you can't save searches, etc. So, this bit is a let down.

What problems is Bitbucket solving and how is that benefiting you?

We use Bitbucket to store all our company source code so we have version control, automated deployments, secure code hosting, commenting, reviews, and more. Every software product needs a source code control system, and if you are using Confluence and Jira already then Bitbucket kind of makes sense.

"Overall a good souce control tool but can improve"
What do you like best about Bitbucket?

Integrates well with other atlassian cloud apps like jira and confluence. Has a clean UI and the code are easy to track. Threaded Converation on reviews is also a nice feature in pull requests

What do you dislike about Bitbucket?

Sometimes there are diffs are not correclty reflected on doing a compare between branches. They only come out to be correct once a PR is created. Looks like the issue is with conflicting commits.

What problems is Bitbucket solving and how is that benefiting you?

We use bit bucket as our souce control. The clean UI and UX has been a plus point for me using this. Other similar tools like gitlab has a clutterd UI and often difficult for newbies to get familiar with.

"Bitbucket, a good platform for code development"
What do you like best about Bitbucket?

My favorite feature would have to be the way Bitbucket organizes your repositories. If you or your company has a large number of repositories, they do make it easy to navigate the UI or search for a particular repository quickly.

What do you dislike about Bitbucket?

Inevitably I find myself comparing Bitbucket to other tools like AzureDevops from Microsoft. When comparing the two, I find that I much prefer the pull request process that AzureDevops provides. A major missing feature (for me) is that you can't create draft PRs in preparation for a PR publish.

What problems is Bitbucket solving and how is that benefiting you?

My company uses Bitbucket for repository storage, pull requests, etc. It does an overall good job of enabling general software development through its feature set.

"A Nice Product with some downsides"
What do you like best about Bitbucket?

A good version management product based on git by Atlassian. The best thing about it is its strong coupling with other Atlassian tools like Jira. Not Only Atlassian products but as Bitbucket has been there for quite some time, most of the product management software has integrations with it, making it a key component in a complete product development experience. Other than that, its simple UI is what makes it very easy to use. Time to time notifications helps a lot in carrying out the code review process. Recent CI/CD pipeline options provided by bitbucket have been very helpful for us for our deployment strategy.

What do you dislike about Bitbucket?

I have been using Bitbucket for more than four years, and I still can't say that it's a fantastic product. I mean, it does its job, but in some sections, its still lagging from its competitors, which are primarily Free. Here's the list of stuff that I dislike about Bitbucket - 1. It's UI. Yes, it has a straightforward UI which is good, but often, the needed stuff isn't available right up. SImple example - If you look at a PR as a reviewer, you won't see the person's name who has raised the PR rather just a badge with the initials of the name. First of all, that's not enough; secondly, even if you can make out from the badge who has raised the PR, then what happens when you have two people with the same initials. And the UX Navigation Flow is also a bit complicated at times. Like the repository and the organization-level projects. 2. It's slow. Yes, after the UI Update, Bitbucket is slower ( I use it from India with a decent Internet Connection ). While using One of its Competitors, Gitlab, I have never faced this issue. But whenever I try to open a page in Bitbucket, it takes a lot of time. And I have checked this with many of my co-workers, and it happens with everyone. Not only Page Load, but specific actions like merging a PR also take an ample amount of time. 3. Difficult to check Large Pull Requests. Yes, if more than ten files have been changed in a PR, then firstly to review it, the loading aspect is slow. Then when someone comments on it, you have to reload the whole page, regardless of where you are currently in the page.

What problems is Bitbucket solving and how is that benefiting you?

We have been primarily using Bitbucket for version management of our code and automated deployment process. The benefits we have achieved by using it are - 1. Proper Code Management 2. Ease of Code Review Process 3. Maintaining Version History 4. Continuous Integration and Deployment

"It's fine"
What do you like best about Bitbucket?

It's another git cloud solution provider. It is integrated with your Atlassian account, so if you are using that heavily it has some benifits. It's not hard to use it as a backup for github if you want to be extra careful.

What do you dislike about Bitbucket?

It's not as good as github. The UX is worse, there isn't as much tooling and support around it specifically. VS Code workst better with Github. It's also missing a lot of features Github has like Codespaces and Actions.

What problems is Bitbucket solving and how is that benefiting you?

Originally we were using it as an alternative to github. Their pricing model was the reverse, where you could have unlimited private repos but paid per user, wheras Github was unlimited users but limited repos. We put certain small sections of the company code in there. Switching to a modern Github price plan as removed that need so we're really only using it for legacy reasons now.

Best part of this repo is it's UI like if we suggest new employe to work on that time he will never face any deficulty for select project PR creation and many more also you you are working with multiple org or client then you can change you work space

What do you dislike about Bitbucket?

The most, unlike thing, is many time, developer face server down issues, so some time if we want to fix any critical bug or necessary changes on prod, that time it will create an issue

What problems is Bitbucket solving and how is that benefiting you?

"Easy to use and integrates well with JIRA; poor uptime"

We love the built-in integration with JIRA Software and other Atlassian products. It takes no time at all to integrate the CI/CD with JIRA workflows.

What do you dislike about Bitbucket?

"Nice control version application"
What do you like best about Bitbucket?

The best part about bit bucket is that we can easily share our code with others without a lot of hassle. I can push my code to my remote branch, and anyone can help me improve my code. I can ask friends who live far away from me, and they can do it instantly. Also, I can keep track of all my updates which can help me preventing/resolving any future bug to occur.

What do you dislike about Bitbucket?

I wouldn't say I dislike it, but as compared to other control versions like Github, it does not take a lot of initiative to bring people to them or make them understand how really bitbucket works and precisely what is bitbucket.

What problems is Bitbucket solving and how is that benefiting you?

"Bitbucket Review"
What do you like best about Bitbucket?

It's easy and efficient to push code up for review in a secure way, review it for changes, provide feedback and approval, and then merge it directly to your parent branch for testing or deployment via git-flow. It's also a flexible solution that can be used across teams or the entire department if necessary. Being able to define tasks directly in reviews and quickly see which reviews have outstanding tasks from the main dashboard view and getting email notifications on updates helps ensure I only re-review when things are ready. The Refined Bitbucket extension for Chrome also further streamlines the experience and I highly recommend checking it out. The full-text search across repositories is also great for locating code since we have a lot of repos.

What do you dislike about Bitbucket?

Bitbucket has been down or experienced outages much more than I'd prefer to see. It seems to be down more often than lots of other solutions we use and when it does happen, it impacts our entire department's workflow. Also, sometimes in very large refactors that touch tons of files, the changes don't all show up in the pull request and Bitbucket instead shows a message that the changes were too large to show but this is sometimes necessary as we clean up our code base. I've also seen the concessional bug where one person merges a PR and I get an email saying that a different user merged it, suggested some bugginess with that functionality.

What problems is Bitbucket solving and how is that benefiting you?

We've been exploring the options in Bitbucket to find better ways to enforce compliance of code changes and proper review of changes committed. Bitbucket has the ability to require a minimum level of approvers and the ability to gate changes by specific users. This has helped us make sure that if a team is committing a change to a specific repository, it meets the minimum number of approvers required but also includes approval from a member who owns that area to ensure nothing gets missed. It's also possible to force a reset of approvals when the code changes to make sure no changes get through without passing a final review. We are exploring the use of that feature as well.

"Bitbucket the future"
What do you like best about Bitbucket?

i am a team foundation server user.so friendly UI + baselining via labelling wasthe easiest to do. rollback features were very friendly in TFS. With bitbucket you have to think enterprise wide. you see the world in the scale of agile teams contributing. your goal of best SCM practise comes with an additional tool such as jenkins or Team city. More so this is my personal opinion that i feel bitbucket is bitbucket + a CI/CD tool to full utilize the power.

What do you dislike about Bitbucket?

no options to baseline. The term merge is too generic, hanging in thin air.

What problems is Bitbucket solving and how is that benefiting you?

None. It was a move to the cloud. The Bitbucket still has not had a project management tool work with its full capability. Jira does do a closeness of what is being done, but it is an agile tool not a full blown project life cycle tool. if a life cycle of development needs to be done, i guess then tools such as jenkins, Team city + some random PM tool + jira solves the problem.
