The most helpful thing about Capdesk for me is the ability to jump in at any time and see exactly who owns what, when options vest etc. We also use the email feature each month to send investor updates. And the new dashboard which has been redesigned is a great source of information during fundraising (I often screenshot the charts - maybe a download PNG button would be nice at some point - and maybe Capdesk branded?)
Nothing really, at the very beginning it was a bit of a headache setting things up as we had already been through 2 fundraises so things needed imported and setup correctly. But once you're setup and going its great.
We wanted to find a way to keep our investors and employees in the loop with ultimate transparency. And we also did NOT want to rely on a Google Sheet like we had done in the past! I can now be confident that our investors and employees can log in at any time and see the most up-to-date information about their shareholding.
Not having to manage a cap table in a spreadsheet; turnkey cap table management with an awesome support team.
I dislike not having a nice modern interface to manage our cap table - which is what Carta fixes.

The customer service team is easy to access and remarkably helpful. The actual system is pretty easy to use.
Sometimes the prompts are confusing, let alone the ramifications of the choices.

Software that combines management of shareholders, investors, option holders and other employee incentives all in one. I no longer need to keep data in several spreadsheets.
There are still quite a few restrictions on what a user can do by themselves, and so I need to contact customer success quite frequently to ask them to do things for me. They are responsive and great at resolving my queries but some of the items I contact them for seem trivial and I would love to be able to have the editing functionality to do them myself. eg. deleting a share certificate once it has been signed.
Management of many shareholders and option holders. Keeping track of fundraises. Automatically tracking vesting periods. An excellent filing system for all legal documents associated with all of the above.
Indespensible tool for cap table management. Shows historic transactions as well as current state which means it's super easy for investor audits or other cap table questions. The share option management section is also useful for easily managing employee options, with little risk of error unlike when using spreadsheets. Acts as a self service portal for employee questions on their options too, which reduces the number of questions that the finance team deal with. Great team when needing support.
Some minor product improvements would be immensely useful; i.e. being able to import reports directly to Google Sheets rather than only Excel, and optimising speed as can occasionally be slow to load.
Easy access to an organised and up to date cap table for everything that needs the cap table (i.e. companies house reporting, investor audit reporting, cap table modelling)
Great for shares employees options management and modelling conversions etc.
Improvement on more custom vestings should be implemented.

The setup process for bringing a company into Carta can sometimes be nuanced and long.
There is a huge benefit in the transparency and management of cap tables. It centralizes everything for all stakeholders involved. It also helps to confirm compliance across the board for companies in their equity management.
