One stop shop for all my options even across companies
nothing specific - there was a phase where some companies I worked at didn't use Carta yet but no longer the case
Options documentation storage and distribution, signing etc.
Easiness to set up, to have allocation by employees, and timeline setting. Also, easiness to purchase them as they become available. Upon purchase, you get a nice eCertificate. Option to add beneficiary.
As of now nothing I can think of. So far looks good, good to see yearly evaluation. so to understand if there is any progress on those non-IPO stocks.
Logistics, eliminating all the paperwork and timely notice and execution.
Carta allows me to view all my stock options from the company I work for. Not only that, but the interface is so simple and easy to use. My favorite feature is the mobile app. It's super handy to have on my phone.
If I had to choose something I dislike about Carta, it would be that I hope there were more available resources that educate about stock options and finances in general. Not everyone is well-versed when it comes to this type of thing.
Carta allows us to view all our stock options and grants. Right in the mobile app, you can choose to exercise your options and view everything all in one place.
Very clean, simple, and easily understandable interface with a focus on the information and actions that matter most.
There was some slight confusion around how to see the tax implications when I sold but figured out I had to select a date when I would be vested.
Managing my employee stock options.
I like that Carta tells me what my benefits are, how long it will take to fully vets, and details exactly what I need to do to take advantage of my set strike price.
Not anything to dislike here about the software. My only challenge with using Carta was making sure I understood what my company's policy was with acquiring my vested shares.
Solving a problem of knowing exactly what my benefits are with my company and when I will be able to take advantage of those benefits and how/when to take advantage of them.
Adding all the investors in one place Uploading required documents copy of term sheets, identities, etc See the timeline of investment and dilutions. Allow investors to have a look at updated cap table instantly
Setting the account up took us over a month. The price is a bit high comparing to other similar products. The mobile app does not have lots of functionality comparing to the web app
Having a clear overview of the cap table as a whole or for a specific period of time for the founders and or the investors. Allow investors to communicate directly with the founders from within the web app or the mobile app
Anything a startup needs to do for equity management, Carta is built for it. Reporting is easy. Issuing options is easy. Board approvals are easy. 409As are easy.
It does get pricey as you scale, and switching costs are high. Once you're in the system, the costs go up each year and it isn't all that transparent until you get the invoice.
We've had Carta ever since we started bringing on external investors to our company. Today, we've raised Seed, Series A, and Series B rounds and brought on over 100 employees and investors with equity. I can't imagine living without it.
Carta makes tracking and managing our company's equity plan a breeze. If you're dealing with a lot of equity stock for new employees, this is a crucial toolset to have to make sure everything is not only compliant, but that employees ALWAYS have access to their information, regardless if they are current, ex, or new to the company. We really struggled to track and communicate this information to our employee base prior to subscribing to the software, but since using it, have had zero problems.
My biggest gripe is the navigation of the website. I often find it difficult to find exactly what I am looking for when tracking down information. There could be a clearer road to getting the information you need, like reporting or employee details.
Communication and accessibility are the two biggest problems we've solved by using Carta. HR is no longer tied up in tracking down information since employees can find it on their own. And when someone leaves the company, everything is still and accessible.
Carta was very easy to set up and then to use. We were live in 2 weeks, and the software is so intuitive that no training is even needed. My finance team immediately saved 10-15 hours a month from reconciling our excel cap table, and employees loved having more clarity on their equity holdings. The reporting is also straightforward so its always easy to review and fix if there were some issues.
Some deal modeling tools cost additional money, but I found these to be pretty useless. Also, the ASC718 calculations are not easy to use, but I am not sure there is any tool that does an excellent job of automating that.
We spent a lot of time reconciling our cap table in excel, and we still made errors. Carta eliminated those issues almost immediately.
User interface is easy to navigate & excel imports are easy to use.
I wish it offered more assistance and education to employees on stock options.
It's a big time saver and requires less involvement from an administrative perspective.
