Descript Expert Review

Descript charges $24 a month for Creator and $50 for Business, and the more expensive plan is worse value on every metered resource it sells. Creator gives you 30 media hours for $24 — 80 cents an hour. Business gives you 40 hours for $50 — $1.25 an hour, 56% dearer. AI credits follow the same shape: 3.0 cents each on Creator, 3.3 cents on Business. Business costs 2.1 times as much as Creator and delivers 1.3 times the capacity. That is not a mistake in the pricing; it is what Business is for. It is a feature purchase — Brand Studio, dubbing, avatars, an SLA — dressed as a capacity upgrade, and if you buy it hoping for headroom you will pay a premium for less of it per dollar.

  • What it is: A video and audio editor where you edit the media by editing its transcript.
  • Best for: Podcasters, course creators and marketing teams of one to three, on Creator.
  • Pricing: Free; Hobbyist $16, Creator $24, Business $50 per person/month annually. Verified August 2026.
  • The honest catch: Creator is the cheapest plan per media hour and per AI credit. Business is not an upgrade in capacity terms.

What Is Descript?

Descript’s premise is genuinely unusual: it transcribes your video or audio, then lets you edit the media by editing the text. Delete a sentence in the transcript and the corresponding footage disappears. Remove every “um” with one command. It is the closest thing the category has to a real idea, and it is why Descript has an audience that does not overlap much with Premiere’s.

Around that sits a large pile of AI: Studio Sound for audio cleanup, Green Screen, Eye Contact, Remove Retakes, Shorten Word Gaps, Create Clips for social cutdowns, voice cloning, generated video, avatars and translation. The AI editing assistant is branded Underlord.

The company claims more than 6 million creators and teams. The Findstack listing carries 344 user reviews at 4.6 out of 5, which is a large enough sample to take seriously and a good score for a tool this ambitious.

How Descript Works

Two meters govern everything, and understanding them is most of understanding the price.

Media hours count media you upload or record, whether or not you transcribe it. They reset monthly and are allocated per editor. AI credits count usage of the AI features — Underlord, Studio Sound, Green Screen, generated media, avatars. They also reset monthly, and also per editor.

Everything else on the plan ladder is a gate rather than a meter:

  • Free — 1 media hour a month, 100 AI credits once, not monthly, 720p export with a watermark, 5 GB storage, and stock media search capped at the first 5 results.
  • Hobbyist ($16) — 10 media hours, 400 credits a month, 1080p watermark-free export, 100 GB storage, one seat.
  • Creator ($24) — 30 media hours, 800 credits, 4K export, 1 TB storage, 1–3 seats, unlimited stock library, and the first plan with timeline export to Premiere, Final Cut, Pro Tools, Logic and Audition.
  • Business ($50) — 40 media hours, 1,500 credits, 2 TB storage, up to 5 seats, Brand Studio, translation and dubbing in 30+ languages with proofread, custom avatars from a photo or text prompt, and priority support with an SLA.
  • Enterprise — quoted, and the only route above five people.

Descript Pricing

Descript’s four plan cards on annual billing — Hobbyist at $16, Creator at $24, Business at $50 and a custom Enterprise tier, all per person per month

Plan Annual Monthly Media hrs AI credits Seats
Free $0 $0 1 100 once 1
Hobbyist $16 $24 10 400 1
Creator $24 $35 30 800 1–3
Business $50 $65 40 1,500 up to 5
Enterprise Quote Quote Custom Custom Custom

All per-seat prices. “Scale to a team of 3” on the Creator card means up to three seats, billed separately — a three-person Creator team is $72 a month, not $24.

Creator is the cheapest plan Descript sells, per unit of anything

Bar chart comparing Descript’s cost per media hour: $1.60 on Hobbyist, $0.80 on Creator and $1.25 on Business

Divide each annual price by what it buys:

Plan Per media hour Per AI credit
Hobbyist $16 $1.60 $0.0400
Creator $24 $0.80 $0.0300
Business $50 $1.25 $0.0333

Creator wins both. It is half Hobbyist’s rate per hour and a quarter cheaper per credit, and it beats Business on both as well.

The Hobbyist-to-Creator step is the clearest upgrade in the lineup: $8 more a month triples your media hours and doubles your credits, and it adds 4K export, unlimited stock search, 1 TB of storage, two extra seats and timeline export. There is almost no scenario where Hobbyist is the rational choice over Creator once you are paying at all.

The Creator-to-Business step is the opposite. You pay 108% more for 33% more media hours and 88% more credits. If capacity is what you need, three Creator seats give you 90 media hours for $72 while two Business seats give you 80 hours for $100 — more capacity, less money, more editors.

So buy Business for its features, never for its allowance. Brand Studio, 30-language dubbing with proofread, custom avatars, an SLA and the fourth and fifth seats are real things you cannot get on Creator. The extra ten media hours are not the reason.

Hobbyist cannot buy its way out of a shortfall

This is the sharpest edge on the page and it is only visible in the comparison table. Top-ups for media minutes and AI credits are available on Creator and Business, and marked with a red cross on Free and Hobbyist.

Which means Hobbyist’s 10 media hours are a hard ceiling, not a soft one. Run out on the 20th of the month and your options are to stop working or to upgrade — there is no $5 top-up that gets you to the end of the month. On Creator, the same shortfall is a purchase.

Hobbyist has two other walls worth knowing before you pick it: no timeline export — you cannot hand a project off to Premiere, Final Cut, Pro Tools, Logic or Audition — and no batch file export. If Descript is where you rough-cut and somewhere else is where you finish, Hobbyist is a dead end and Creator is the entry plan.

The annual discount does not reach 35% either

The toggle promises “Save up to 35% with annual billing.” The actual figures:

  • Hobbyist: $24 → $16 is 33.3%
  • Creator: $35 → $24 is 31.4%
  • Business: $65 → $50 is 23.1%

Closer to the claim than most vendors manage — Hobbyist misses by under two points — but no plan reaches 35%, and the plan most businesses buy misses by twelve. Budget 31% on Creator and 23% on Business.

What actually decides your cost

  • Your monthly media hours, which is the meter that runs out first for most people.
  • How AI-heavy your editing is, since credits are consumed by Studio Sound, generated media and avatars rather than by cutting.
  • Seat count, because every seat is billed separately and the self-serve ceiling is five.
  • Whether you need timeline export, which starts at Creator and rules Hobbyist out for anyone finishing elsewhere.
  • Whether you need Brand Studio, dubbing or avatars — the only honest reasons to buy Business.
  • Billing cadence, worth a real 23–33%.

Who Should Use Descript

Descript fits anyone whose raw material is people talking. Podcasters, course creators, interview shows, webinar teams, internal comms — the transcript-editing model turns a two-hour slog in a timeline into twenty minutes in a document, and the filler-word and retake removal alone justify the subscription for a weekly show. A solo creator or a team of two or three on Creator is the sweet spot, and it is priced accordingly.

It fits badly for narrative or heavily-composited video, where a real NLE’s timeline, colour and effects work are the job and the transcript is irrelevant. It also fits badly for a team of six to ten: Creator stops at three seats, Business at five, and there is nothing between Business and a sales call.

Honest Pros and Cons

What works well:

  • Transcript-based editing genuinely works and is faster than a timeline for talking-head content.
  • Creator is the cheapest plan per media hour and per AI credit — the value tier is the one most people should buy.
  • The Hobbyist-to-Creator step is excellent value: $8 triples the hours and adds 4K, timeline export and two seats.
  • Every plan gets 25-language transcription, multitrack, speaker detection, unlimited projects and unlimited captions, including Free.
  • A real free tier — one hour a month, watermarked, but the full editing model is there to test.
  • AI is bundled into the plan, not sold as a separate subscription.
  • 344 reviews at 4.6/5 on the Findstack listing.
  • Enterprise offers training opt-out and custom retention, which matters if your media is confidential.

What to watch:

  • Business costs 2.1× Creator for 1.3× the media hours — it is a feature upgrade, not a capacity one.
  • Hobbyist cannot buy top-ups, so its 10-hour limit is a wall rather than a bill.
  • Hobbyist has no timeline export or batch export, closing off any hand-off to another editor.
  • “Save up to 35%” is not reached by any plan; Creator saves 31.4% and Business 23.1%.
  • Seats are billed separately, so a three-person Creator team is $72 a month, not $24.
  • Five seats is the self-serve ceiling — beyond that it is Enterprise and a quote.
  • Free’s 100 AI credits are one-time, not monthly, so the free tier’s AI is a trial rather than an allowance.
  • Free exports are watermarked and capped at 720p.

Descript Alternatives and How It Compares

  • Adobe Premiere Pro is the answer if the timeline is the work; its own text-based editing has closed some of the gap, without matching Descript’s fluency.
  • CapCut is free, fast and built for short-form social, and will do most of what a solo creator needs at zero cost.
  • ElevenLabs beats Descript on voice cloning and synthetic speech quality if that specifically is what you are buying.
  • HeyGen is the stronger dedicated tool for avatars and multi-language dubbing — the two headline reasons to consider Descript Business.
  • Loom solves the adjacent problem of quick screen-recorded messages, and is cheaper if you are not really editing.
  • Riverside and Veed compete most directly on remote recording and browser-based editing respectively.

The honest comparison: nothing else makes editing a two-hour interview as fast as Descript does. But if you are eyeing Business for dubbing or avatars, price a Creator seat plus a dedicated tool — HeyGen or ElevenLabs — before committing, because the specialists are better at those jobs and Creator is the cheaper base.

The Verdict

Descript is a very good product with a plan ladder that rewards reading the middle of it. Creator at $24 is the cheapest thing Descript sells per unit of anything it meters, and it is also the plan that unlocks 4K, timeline export, unlimited stock and top-ups. Nearly everyone paying for Descript should be on it.

Hobbyist is the trap. Not because $16 is expensive, but because it costs twice as much per media hour, cannot buy top-ups when it runs dry, and cannot export a timeline to anywhere else. The $8 gap to Creator is the best-value step on the page.

Business is fine, provided you know what you are buying. Brand Studio, 30-language dubbing with proofread, custom avatars, an SLA and seats four and five are real. The extra ten media hours cost you $26 a month and arrive at a worse rate than the ones you already had.

Start on Free. One watermarked hour is enough to find out whether editing video by editing text suits how your brain works — which is the only question that matters here, because if it does, nothing else in the category is close, and if it does not, no price will fix it.

FAQ

How much does Descript cost?

Four self-serve tiers, priced per person per month on annual billing: Free $0, Hobbyist $16, Creator $24 and Business $50. Monthly billing is $24, $35 and $65 respectively. Enterprise is quoted. Seats are billed separately, so a three-person Creator team costs $72 a month, and five people on Business costs $250. The self-serve ceiling is five seats.

What are Descript’s media hours and AI credits?

Two separate monthly meters, both allocated per editor. Media hours count media you upload or record in Descript, whether or not you transcribe it — 1 hour on Free, 10 on Hobbyist, 30 on Creator, 40 on Business. AI credits count usage of AI features like Underlord, Studio Sound, Green Screen, generated video and avatars — 400, 800 and 1,500 a month on the paid plans, and 100 one-time on Free. Creator and Business can buy top-ups when they run out; Free and Hobbyist cannot.

Should I choose Descript Creator or Business?

Creator, unless you specifically need a Business feature. On capacity Creator is better value on both meters: 80 cents per media hour against Business’s $1.25, and 3.0 cents per AI credit against 3.3. Business costs 2.1 times as much for 1.3 times the hours. Buy Business only for Brand Studio, translation and dubbing in 30+ languages with proofread, custom avatars, priority support with an SLA, or the fourth and fifth seats — and note that three Creator seats give you 90 media hours for $72, where two Business seats give 80 hours for $100.

Is Descript’s free plan good enough to use?

As a trial, yes. As a working tool, no. Free includes the full transcript-editing model, 25-language transcription, multitrack, unlimited projects and unlimited dynamic captions — but it caps you at one media hour a month, exports at 720p with a watermark, limits stock media search to the first five results, and grants 100 AI credits once rather than monthly. It is enough to find out whether the editing model suits you, which is exactly what it should be.

Does Descript’s annual plan really save 35%?

Not quite. The toggle advertises “up to 35%,” and the real figures are 33.3% on Hobbyist, 31.4% on Creator and 23.1% on Business. Hobbyist comes closest and still misses; Business, the plan a company is most likely to buy, misses by nearly twelve points. Annual billing is clearly worth taking — just budget the saving at around 31% on Creator rather than 35%.

"Saves hours in work"
What do you like best about Descript?

Between the Squadcast integration and the ability to duplicate parts of an interview to a new composition, I've been able to significantly reduce my workflow time for my weekly podcast. It's been a game changer for my social media marketing and makes editing a breeze. In fact, because it's so helpful I'm able to start another show. As a 4+ year podcaster, I get questions often about how to start a podcast. Descript is the #1 tool I recommend!

What do you dislike about Descript?

Honestly I can't think of anything. If I could I'd write something, but I've been over the moon with the functionality.

What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?

Functions that have saved me time: - Filler word removal - Long space reduction - Video editing to make episodes for YouTube - Auto publish to YouTube - AI functions like making YT descriptions, social captions and more

What do you dislike about Descript?

I think I have to submit voice samples for overdub now

What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?

"Excellent help for podcasters"
What do you like best about Descript?

I think it's super user-friendly, helps a lot as a complement to an audio team if you have one and it's extra easy for those who don't. Also, it can be used as a one-stop shop for your post-production.

What do you dislike about Descript?

If you are trained in audio you can tell that the cuts sometimes are not faded automatically and it can create clicking in your final product but it's not really that noticeable. I would like to have a better wave editing window.

What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?

The studio sound trying to improve audio quality is great as well as the filler word and silences highlighter. It helps me and my team improve our editing times and helps us make sure we are doing things more efficiently.

"Descript: my favourite tool for transcribing and editing tools"
What do you like best about Descript?

What I liked about Descript is that it simplifies the audio transcription process using speech recognition. It offers remarkable accuracy in converting audio into text. I can easily correct my mistakes and remove stuttering to improve my content. I can also integrate sound effects into my video to obtain a more professional, high-quality video. And finally I can export my work in several formats

What do you dislike about Descript?

Advanced features are chargeable. The monthly subscription can be expensive for those who use it regularly. Getting to grips with all the features requires some learning time. And it was not so easy for me as a beginner. I got better over time. Descript works well on macOS, but its support on Windows sometimes encounters difficulties. It can be improved.

What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?

Descript saves me a lot of time. Before using Descript, manual transcription was very difficult. Thanks to Descript, I can obtain accurate transcriptions in record time. It's easy to work in a team because of the collaboration features. As real, which makes it easier to collaborate with my clients. We can work together on the whole project. I can also use Descript for various types of projects, for my podcasts, and also for making educational videos. It is because of its versatility that it has become an essential asset for my content creation toolbox.

"Thanks to Descript I have finally launched my podcast project"
What do you like best about Descript?

I didn't know that video editing with multiple streams could be so easy. Descript is a game changer for me. I found it super versatile, precise and full of functionalities that help me to produce quality content. With the help of AI, Descript is doing heavy lifting retranscribing precisely the videos or audio files and allowing you to edit it on the spot

What do you dislike about Descript?

Noting much, the product received regular updates and currently announced partnerships with another platform that facilitate reglcording across multiple streams. I'm looking forward to try new features.

What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?

Helps me to deliver quality content in a professional way without spending hours editing and regrouping the files and streams. Adding multiple files and being able to align them together to get one unique transcript is a powerful feature

"A delight to use"
What do you like best about Descript?

Descript lets you edit video by editing text. This is much easier than using a timeline editor, especially because Descript transcribes very well.

What do you dislike about Descript?

There's no real issue because improvement are made continuously.

What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?

Editing video like webinars is time-consuming. Descript makes the process much faster by creating an excellent transcript, removing filler words (like "um", "ah") , removing extended gaps and identifying possible transcription mistakes.

"Great tool for a beginner"
What do you like best about Descript?

Descript allows me to quickly edit my short teaching videos without losing video quality. I love the ability to remove words from the transcript which automatically removes them from the video as well.

What do you dislike about Descript?

It took me a while of trial and error to get good final results. I admit I am a beginner, but it was a a little harder to master than it seemed in the help videos I watched. I tried using it for video capture but it didn't give me the quality I needed. But I admit this could be user error.

What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?

I create teaching videos for my followers using screen share. I needed a solution to remove the long pauses and extra words and phrases I add inadvertently. Descript helps me edit a teaching video very quickly, saving me time and frustration!

"Always improving, unique UX, radically lowers barriers to using video for more things"
What do you like best about Descript?

Makes video radically easy to polish. I use it for contract work (very quickly distilling rambling interviews with clients into near-primietime-ready course videos). I use it for my own business for most social content. I use it for voice notes because it allows me to quickly distill my own rambling soliloquies into usable blog posts, notes, etc. And if I ever start that podcast I know it won't be the pain of editing that stops me!

What do you dislike about Descript?

I'd love a mobile app, Make integration, and more out-of-the-box integrations to connect Descript to the rest of my stack. These would increase my usage a lot as I could take voice notes on the go, edit them later in a few clicks, and organize them in other apps like project and asset management solutions. Another really cool thing to have would be better built-in AI editing: I find myself copy-pasting transcripts into ClickUp to have their inline AI editor fix the punctuation, then manually replacing the transcript in Descript. This should be in-housed; it's all just Open AI tech.

What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?

They are drastically lowering the barrier to making polished video content with captions and quality transcripts. I'm way more productive using Descript, and it's so good I keep thinking up new use cases I wouldn't have thought of (personal voice notes for creative writing?) Instead of dreading making video, I look for excuses to do it.

"Phenomenal "Little" Tool"
What do you like best about Descript?

The speech-to-text accuracy is the best I've seen among tools of its type. The short interactive tutorial is so simple, yet immensely helpful.

What do you dislike about Descript?

Working with the items on the timeline can be very touchy. It would be nice to have more menu items for procedures rather than attempting to click and drag a tiny circle within the timeline.

What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?

I originally purchased Descript so my team would have a quick and accurate transcription tool. We have also started using the "Create a Voice" feature which is saving an immense amount of time for narration. We are saving, on average, about 8 hours of development time due to this feature.

"Truly innovative video editing software. Very helpful on onboarding"
What do you like best about Descript?

I love that they onboard you so warmly and professionally. Usually, there is a learning curve, but Descript uses its own interface to walk you through. It's an interactive tutorial by an actual human, Tiff. The editing process is very easy, and that is what makes this software so neat. This is the first software I've come across where you can delete, insert and change scenes based on the transcript.

What do you dislike about Descript?

Nothing, it's a very innovative video editing software. In fact, it really impressed me.

What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?

It's really easy to use and not cumbersome. I like how it's smooth and a lot of thought went into the user experience. It's well developed and the user interface is easy to navigate, unlike other new startups where you can clearly see was not well thought of or well coded.

"Amazingly clever and quick!"
What do you like best about Descript?

Editing audio and video is amazing with the feature to remove filler words using the transcript. When it does it with a video it also removes that section of the video and the edit is seamless.

What do you dislike about Descript?

When adding subtitles to a video the rendering time significantly increases.

What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?

Editing educational videos and will soon start to use it for editing a podcast. Using the transcript to edit makes it so fast and adding subtitles works better than other platforms I have tried.

"Descript Is A Secret Weapon for Vloggers, Transcriptionists, and Podcasters"
What do you like best about Descript?

Honestly, I can't believe how easy Descript makes things from top to bottom. For example, I've used it mostly for transcriptions. You just upload your audio and let Descript do its thing. You get a notification when the transcription is done.

What do you dislike about Descript?

This isn't really a problem just yet, but the Descript team has been adding features over the past few years. The platform is now very powerful. Great for podcasters, YouTubers, and transcriptionists, but I just hope it doesn't get to the point where there are so many video editing options that it becomes confusing.

What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?

I've been using Descript for transcriptions, and it's just changed the game. I'm saving so much time. I've realized that with this tool, I could very easily start editing Youtube videos or podcasts as well.

What do you like best about Descript?

Descript is the app I use after getting my files transcribed through Rev. What I like best about Descript is the ability to upload an audio and having an AI or a roughly produced transcript.

What do you dislike about Descript?

The only thing I don't like about Descript is that sometimes it takes hours for a transcript to be done because of a downtime and we don't get notified with the issues or there is no place to view the ongoing errors for it.

What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?

It is solving my transcription issues. I benefit from it because I need AI transcripts constantly as an Executive Assistant. That's why Descript has been a really big help on my daily tasks.

"The Best for Editing Podcasts"
What do you like best about Descript?

Ease-of-use and frequent updates make Descript very fun to use. As one of many tools that I use to edit and produce podcasts, Descript is never one to get in the way of my flow.

What do you dislike about Descript?

Honestly, there's very little that I dislike enough to write about.

What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?

I've been able to more easily make edits using Descript than when I was using a traditional DAW. Reading each episode's transcript as I follow along with the audio is such a powerful feature, and I find myself better and quicker edits. My services have only improved.

"Amazing Product"
What do you like best about Descript?

Descript simply works. I use it mostly just to transcribe and caption videos.

What do you dislike about Descript?

Wish it had more flexibility with exporting FCP documents. I use a multi-cam workflow that doesn't really work with descript. If it did I would do the bulk of my editing in descript! Wish it were a bit easier to correct transcription errors and to add certain pronunciations to descript. I have one client with a minor accent that descript consistently mis-transcribes the same common words, that I need to go in and correct with each session.

What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?

use it mostly just to transcribe and caption videos. Saves a ton of time and integrates well into my workflow

"The Best Editing Experience!"
What do you like best about Descript?

I love that I can edit my audio by simply deleting the words from my transcription! It just makes it so easy! And the fact that I can also edit videos in the same way, makes me feel so much more confident in my abilities to create this type of content!

What do you dislike about Descript?

I am yet to understand the full scope of the software. I am not sure that it's that user-friendly with learning what's possible.

What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?

I am editing my podcasts so quickly and easily. I have realized that I don't have to outsource; I can do this myself. I also love that I can edit videos simply and quickly too.

"Invaluable for editing my podcast"
What do you like best about Descript?

There is so much about Descript that I find invaluable. The ability to edit the audio via the text transcript was game-changing for me. I also make great use of the overdub tool to fix sections where words got left out, or my speaking was unclear.

What do you dislike about Descript?

This is minor, but the look and feel of the Descript program is very bland and colorless. It feels like a prototype rather than a finished product. Every time I open it, I think, is that it?

What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?

It allows me to edit faster and better.

What do you like best about Descript?

The speed at which I'm able to edit. It's amazing how intuitive the tools are and how easy it is to move between different types of edits.

What do you dislike about Descript?

It would be great if there was a tool to sync audio to video from different tracks.

What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?

The ability to edit and transcribe the audio and video at the same time is a game changer.

"In-Descript-bable!"
What do you like best about Descript?

Descript helps anybody-absolutely anyone- hard up with transcribing interviews, creating podcasts, and editing videos. This software was created for everyone! Even those who are not as tech-savvy as anyone else,

What do you dislike about Descript?

There is nothing to dislike about the main functions of Descript. it is, by all means, a tool, but what an awesome job it does every time! It even has screen record functions!

What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?

I work in the marketing and advertising niche, under the eCommerce umbrella. Goals are met, especially when there are clients that need onboarding. It lightens the load of going through a tedious process with an almost flawless transcription accuracy.

"BEST TOOL EVER"
What do you like best about Descript?

I really like how editing audio is as simple as deleting characters in the transcript. I also like that removing filler words all at once is just the click of a button. I used to have to use multiple tools to produce one episode but now everything is in Descript. Descript makes video editing seem less daunting, too. I have feared creating on-screen graphics to take videos to the next level, but Descript makes it super simple. OH! And, I absolutely love that creating a video with subtitles is a breeze! Seriously, there are SO MANY COOL things this tool can do and I haven't even scratched the surface. It's kind of an all-in-one for anyone doing online content creation.

What do you dislike about Descript?

I find editing the sound to be a little clunky after having used GarageBand for quite some time. The other thing that I'm not a big fan of, which is also kind of a good thing, is that every time I open Descript, you have to refresh it because a new version is available. What's great about this is that they are always tweaking it and making it better, but the updates do feel like a minor inconvenience.

What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?

Well, it has taken my podcast editing to the next level. I am also utilizing the transcription feature in more ways than I ever imagined. This has been handy for blogging or even creating copy for episode promotion. Descript has also made it 100 times easier for me to make audiograms. Before, I used to think they were difficult. I would use several tools and loads of time to make one audiogram.

"Pure technological magic."
What do you like best about Descript?

Descript saves us hours in workflow time. It incorporates all the required elements that we need, from accurate auto-transcription to powerful video editing... and then ups the bar by adding world-class audio mastering and easy team sharing. There isn't a more valuable software tool we have.

What do you dislike about Descript?

One of the consequences of being so on-point is the need to update constantly. There are non-stop software updates that always add new features. Some incredible, some unnoticeable. It's a constantly evolving tool. We wish there was an iPhone app.

What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?

We use Descript to format, transcribe and edit video interviews. For our consumer research agency this allows us to commit to fast timelines and high-end deliverables. There's almost no downtime with the platform and it is easy to implement on a variety of computers.

"Descript makes podcast editing SO much easier!"
What do you like best about Descript?

As a visual person, this makes podcast editing a breeze. I can read the transcript, delete stuff, copy/paste, move words around, and the final audio files comes out perfectly. I edit podcasts for work, and this makes the editing process so much faster. I wish I knew about Descript a year ago.

What do you dislike about Descript?

Every so often, the transcripts will get stuck, but that's been extremely rare. You also need to manually check your edits. Sometimes, when deleting a word, it won't completely cut all the audio, so maybe 1 out of 10 edits needs a small manual trim, but it's very easy with their built-in editor. These are small things that could be cleaned up, but don't really detract from the experience at all.

What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?

I edit multiple podcasts, and since we record online, I usually have multiple audio files. Descript automatically combines them into a single transcript, split up by speaker, and exports as one clean file. This is a game changer.

"Hugely Efficient, Even More Flexible"
What do you like best about Descript?

The interface is entirely intuitive and quick to learn. On my first session, I thought, "It can't be this easy." However, it truly was. To edit sound by editing text is just phenomenal.

What do you dislike about Descript?

I feel like I will burn through my allotted hours in no time. I don't want to pay more per month as it's already a bit much for me to be spending $50.00 per month ($600.00 per year!), but I'm pretty sure I'll quickly use the time.

What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?

Having instantaneous transcriptions for my interviews is an incredible time saver. I usually do all of my editing in Pro Tools, but the interface in Descript allows greater efficiency to do my "offline" edits there and then polish them in Pro Tools.

"Descript changed my working life!"
What do you like best about Descript?

I love that this tool has saved me hours and days or work! As a Content Marketing Manager, this tool is essential for me in editing videos and podcasts. It's one of the few I can't live without! Also the video editing from the text is absolutely seamless!

What do you dislike about Descript?

The transcription is phenomenal but it does miss certain words.

What problems is Descript solving and how is that benefiting you?

I'm solving: The time it takes to edit content - no more hours of endless transcribing! The pain of editing videos and podcasts
