GGServer Expert Review

GGServers prices Minecraft hosting at exactly $3.00 per GB of RAM — on all ten of its plans, with no exceptions and no bulk discount. The 32 GB plan costs precisely 32 times the 1 GB plan. The Premium tier is exactly double at $6.00 per GB, across the same ten plans. That kind of arithmetic consistency is rare enough to be a feature, and it has an underrated consequence: because every discount here is first-invoice only, there is no renewal cliff at all. The price you see in month one is the price in month twenty.

  • What it is: Minecraft and game server hosting running since 2013, Java and Bedrock.
  • Best for: Players who want predictable, arithmetic pricing and no renewal surprises.
  • Pricing: $3.00/GB Standard, $6.00/GB Premium. From $3.00/mo. Verified August 2026.
  • The honest catch: No volume discount, so large servers pay full freight.

What Is GGServers?

GGServers has been selling game hosting since 2013 and reports 1 million+ gamers served, 20,000+ currently active gameservers, 99.99% network uptime and a 30-minute average ticket response time. Minecraft is the core business — Java and Bedrock, with 1-click modpack and plugin installs — but it also hosts Rust ($24/mo), ARK ($30), Palworld ($12), CS2 ($8), Project Zomboid ($8), Left 4 Dead 2 ($8), and newer titles including Hytale and RuneScape: Dragonwilds (both from $12).

The control panel is a customised Pterodactyl build, which is a meaningful detail: Pterodactyl is the open-source standard in game hosting, so the skills and file layout transfer if you ever leave. On that note, GGServers includes a free Server Importer on all packages that pulls your files directly from another host — a tool that exists to make switching to them easy, and which is genuinely useful.

Every plan includes unmetered SSD storage, free DDoS protection (advertised at 80 Gbps with 20-minute mitigation), instant activation, full FTP and MySQL access, a free subdomain, and 9+ locations. There is a public ping-test server at ping.ggs.gg so you can measure latency to each location before buying, which is the right way to sell hosting.

GGServers’ Minecraft plan ladder, from the 1 GB STONE plan at $3 a month to the 32 GB BEACON plan at $96.

How GGServers Works

  • Two hardware tiers: Standard and Premium, priced exactly 2:1.
  • RAM is the only variable — everything else is included on every plan.
  • Player slots at 12 per GB, becoming unlimited at 16 GB.
  • Pterodactyl panel, the open-source game-hosting standard.
  • Free server importer from any other host.
  • Discounts apply to the first invoice only.

GGServers Pricing

The whole price list is one multiplication. Standard is $3.00 per GB of RAM; Premium is $6.00 per GB. Player slots run at exactly 12 per GB until they go unlimited.

Plan RAM Slots Standard Premium
STONE 1 GB 12 $3.00 $6.00
COAL 2 GB 24 $6.00 $12.00
IRON 3 GB 36 $9.00 $18.00
GOLD (recommended) 4 GB 48 $12.00 $24.00
LAPIS 5 GB 60 $15.00 $30.00
REDSTONE 6 GB 72 $18.00 $36.00
DIAMOND 8 GB 96 $24.00 $48.00
EMERALD 12 GB 144 $36.00 $72.00
AMETHYST 16 GB Unlimited $48.00 $96.00
BEACON 32 GB Unlimited $96.00 $192.00

Standard hardware: CPU 3.2–4 GHz, DDR4 2133 MHz RAM, SSD in soft RAID 1 at 400 MB/s. Premium hardware: CPU 4.4–5 GHz on high priority, NVMe at 2500+ MB/s, Ryzen and Intel i7 processors, plus access to all locations.

Monthly cost of each GGServers Standard plan, showing an exactly flat $3.00 per GB of RAM at every size.

What actually decides your cost:

  • There is no volume discount, at any size. Every plan is $3.00 per GB, so BEACON’s 32 GB costs exactly 32 times STONE’s 1 GB. Most hosts taper the per-GB rate as plans grow; GGServers does not, at all. For small servers this is fine and the entry price is genuinely low. For a 16 GB or 32 GB community server it means you are paying entry-level rates on every gigabyte, and it is worth pricing rivals specifically at that size rather than assuming the $3 headline stays competitive.
  • Premium costs exactly double for roughly 25–37% more clock speed. Standard runs 3.2–4 GHz; Premium runs 4.4–5 GHz with high priority, NVMe storage at 2500+ MB/s against 400 MB/s, and all locations unlocked. Whether a 100% price rise is worth that depends entirely on what you run — heavily modded servers are single-core-bound and will feel it, vanilla survival servers largely will not. The pricing is at least honest about being a flat doubling rather than a confusing re-tier.
  • Every discount is first-invoice only — which also means no renewal cliff. GGServers’ coupons all say “your first invoice”. A 20% saving on one month is small. But the flip side is the thing most hosting reviews in this series end up warning about: there is no introductory rate that later triples. Month two costs the same as month twelve. Set against a market where 7.9× renewal jumps are normal, a small one-month coupon and a stable list price is the better deal structure, and it deserves credit.
  • Three different coupon codes were live on the same site at the same time. The homepage showed TAKE20 for 20% off across three separate fresh loads. A 404 page on the same site showed CYBER50 for 50% off in the same banner slot, and offered UNFOUND22 for 22% in its body text. The homepage’s code is the least generous of the three. We did not test whether any of them redeem, so treat this as a reason to look around the site for a better code before checkout rather than a guarantee — but do look.
  • The promotional copy is stale, which is a small credibility tax. The homepage describes TAKE20 as “our New Year promotion” — in August. The site footer reads “Copyright © 2025”. Neither affects the service, but both suggest the marketing layer is not closely tended, and it is the kind of thing worth noticing when a host also claims 99.99% uptime.
  • Player slots are metered below 16 GB, unlike some competitors. You get 12 slots per GB — 48 on the recommended 4 GB plan, 96 on 8 GB — and unlimited only from 16 GB up. Several rivals offer unlimited slots on every plan. In practice 12 players per GB is a reasonable ratio and RAM will usually bind first, but if you are running a large, low-intensity server the slot cap could be the constraint rather than the memory.
  • Budget at least 4 GB if you want mods. GGServers says so itself: “We recommend plans with at least 4GB of RAM for modpacks.” That makes GOLD at $12 the realistic entry point for a modded server, not the $3 headline.
  • The affiliate link tracks correctly. /go/ggserver returns 200, lands on ggservers.com and sets a WHMCSAffiliateID cookie, so attribution works.

Who Should Use GGServers

  • Small vanilla servers. $3 for 1 GB and 12 slots is a genuinely low entry price.
  • Modded servers on a budget. GOLD at 4 GB and $12 is the sensible modpack starting point.
  • Anyone burned by renewal pricing. The list price never changes.
  • Players switching hosts. The free server importer removes the migration work.

It fits poorly for large communities at 16 GB and above, where the flat per-GB rate stops being competitive; for anyone who needs a specific slot count on a small plan, given the 12-per-GB cap; and for buyers who want a meaningful long-term discount, since the coupons only ever touch the first invoice.

Honest Pros and Cons

Strengths

  • Completely transparent pricing — $3.00 per GB, no exceptions.
  • No renewal cliff — the list price is the permanent price.
  • Pterodactyl panel, the portable open-source standard.
  • Free server importer from any other host, on all plans.
  • Public ping-test server so you can measure latency first.
  • Operating since 2013 with 20,000+ active servers.

Limitations

  • No volume discount at all — 32 GB costs 32× the 1 GB plan.
  • Premium costs exactly double for a modest clock increase.
  • Discounts are first-invoice only.
  • Player slots capped at 12/GB below 16 GB.
  • Three different coupon codes live at once, homepage showing the worst.
  • Stale marketing — a “New Year promotion” and a 2025 copyright in August 2026.

GGServers Alternatives and How It Compares

  • Host Havoc is a close competitor on both Minecraft and general game hosting.
  • Hostinger’s Minecraft hosting competes hard on introductory price, with the renewal pattern that implies.
  • Shockbyte and Apex Hosting are the other two names most Minecraft buyers shortlist.
  • A general VPS is cheaper per GB if you are willing to install and manage the server yourself.

The Verdict

GGServers is the easiest host in this review series to understand, because its price list is a single sum: $3.00 per gigabyte of RAM on Standard, $6.00 on Premium, across all ten plans, with player slots at 12 per GB. Nothing is withheld from the cheap plans — DDoS protection, unmetered SSD, FTP and MySQL, the Pterodactyl panel and the free subdomain are on every tier. You choose a number of gigabytes and multiply.

The consequence worth thinking hardest about is that there is no volume discount. BEACON’s 32 GB costs exactly 32 times STONE’s 1 GB. At the small end that is a good deal — $3 for a server that runs. At 16 GB and above, where most hosts start tapering, GGServers charges the same rate it charges a beginner, and a large community should price competitors specifically at that size rather than trusting the entry headline.

Set against that is something this series rarely gets to write. Every GGServers discount applies to the first invoice only, which sounds stingy until you notice what it replaces: there is no introductory rate that later multiplies. Elsewhere in these reviews we have found hosting that renews at 7.9 times its promotional price. GGServers’ month two costs exactly what month one cost, and so does month twenty. A small coupon on a stable price is a better structure than a large coupon on a price that jumps, and buyers should weight it accordingly.

Two things to do before you buy. First, test the ping — GGServers runs a public server at ping.ggs.gg covering every location, and latency is the thing you cannot fix later. Second, look for a better coupon than the homepage’s. We found TAKE20 (20%) on the homepage across three loads, while a 404 page on the same site carried CYBER50 (50%) and UNFOUND22 (22%). We did not test redemption, but a code worth 30 percentage points more than the one on the front page is worth two minutes of looking.

If you want mods, start at GOLD — 4 GB for $12 — because that is GGServers’ own recommended minimum for modpacks, not the $3 entry plan. And if raw single-core speed matters to your setup, price Premium honestly: it is a 100% price increase for a 25–37% clock increase plus much faster storage. For plenty of servers that is not the right trade, and the flat pricing at least makes the comparison easy to run.

FAQ

How much does GGServers cost?

Minecraft plans start at $3.00 a month for 1 GB of RAM and 12 player slots, and scale at exactly $3.00 per GB — $12 for 4 GB, $24 for 8 GB, $48 for 16 GB and $96 for 32 GB. The Premium hardware tier is exactly double at $6.00 per GB. Other games are priced separately, from $8 a month for CS2 and Project Zomboid up to $30 for ARK.

Does GGServers offer a discount for larger servers?

No. The per-GB rate is identical on every plan, so the 32 GB BEACON plan costs precisely 32 times the 1 GB STONE plan. This makes the pricing very easy to reason about, but it means large servers get no bulk break — if you are buying 16 GB or more, compare rivals at that specific size rather than relying on the low entry price.

Does GGServers raise the price after the first month?

No, and this is one of its better features. GGServers’ coupons apply to the first invoice only, so the discount is small — but the list price never rises afterwards. Month two costs the same as month one, and the same as month twenty. Many hosts do the opposite, offering a deep introductory rate that multiplies several times over on renewal.

What is the difference between GGServers’ Standard and Premium plans?

Hardware, at exactly twice the price. Standard runs CPUs at 3.2–4 GHz with DDR4 2133 MHz RAM and SSD storage in soft RAID 1 at 400 MB/s. Premium runs 4.4–5 GHz Ryzen and Intel i7 CPUs on high priority, NVMe storage at 2500+ MB/s, and unlocks all server locations. Heavily modded servers, which are bound by single-core speed, will feel the difference; vanilla servers largely will not.

How much RAM do I need for a modded Minecraft server?

GGServers recommends at least 4 GB for modpacks, which puts the realistic entry point at the GOLD plan at $12 a month rather than the $3 headline. Vanilla survival servers for a handful of friends run comfortably on 1–2 GB. Since slots scale at 12 per GB, 4 GB also gives you 48 player slots, which is more than most private servers need.
