Grammarly Reviews — Pricing, Features & The Honest Take
While Grammarly is better known as a grammar and spell-checking tool that is used by teams across different industries, it also helps users spot contextual errors and common grammar issues. On top of performing these copy checks, Grammarly can also be counted on to improve your writing style and adjust copy based on your stylistic requirements. The platform also offers browser extensions where it can be used to check emails and other online writing collaterals as well. It’s also exceptionally easy to use, with an interface that can be used on the web, mobile, or even through various integrations.

Grammarly’s Free card reads “€0 EUR / month”. Its Pro card reads “€12 EUR” — struck through, with no billing period anywhere on it. The Free plan states its period and the paid plan does not, so the page never says whether €12 is charged monthly or annually. What it does say is ”€0 payment today” beside a 7-day trial. The billing terms are not published; you reach them only after creating an account.
- What it is: The best-known writing assistant — grammar, tone, rewriting and AI generation.
- Best for: Anyone who writes at work; the free tier is genuinely usable.
- Pricing: Free €0/month; Pro €12 (period not stated); Enterprise quoted. Verified July 2026.
- The honest catch: Pro’s “team features” cap at one style guide, one brand tone and two user groups.
What Is Grammarly?
Grammarly checks spelling and grammar, flags contextual errors, shows and adjusts writing tone, rewrites full sentences, and generates text from AI prompts. It claims 40 million people and 50,000 organisations, listing Atlassian, Zoom and Databricks. The company now trades as Superhuman Platform, and its Enterprise tier is delivered “through Superhuman Go”.
The tier structure has been consolidated. Grammarly’s own FAQ explains that Pro now replaces both Premium and Business: it “includes all of the advanced writing features included in Premium… plus team features that were previously available only in the Business plan.”
How Grammarly Works
- Three tiers — Free, Pro, Enterprise.
- AI prompts are the headline meter — 100, 2,000, unlimited.
- Pro absorbed the old Premium and Business plans.
- A 7-day free trial with €0 due today.
- Enterprise gates all the security features.
- No billing period is published for Pro.
Grammarly Pricing

| Pro | €12 | No | 2,000/member/month | 7 days |

What actually decides your cost:
- The paid plan does not state what you are paying for. The Free card carries “/ month” directly beneath €0. The Pro card shows €12 with a line through it, the words “EUR”, a “Try for free” badge, and then “€0 payment today” — and no period. Searching the rest of the page for billing language turns up nothing beyond the prompt allowances. The upgrade flow requires an account before it shows terms, so a prospective buyer cannot establish the recurring charge from published information.
- The strikethrough is the trial, not a discount. €12 is crossed out because you pay nothing for seven days, not because it has been reduced. Presented this way it reads like a price cut, which it is not.
- The trial handling is genuinely good, though. “Email reminder 2 days before trial ends” is printed on the card itself. Very few vendors in this survey commit to warning you before a trial converts, and Grammarly does it in the plan card rather than the small print.
- AI prompts scale twentyfold. 100 a month on Free against 2,000 per member per month on Pro. If prompt volume is your constraint, that is a substantial jump — and the Free allowance of 100 is enough to establish whether the generation features are useful to you before paying.
- Pro’s “team features” are thinner than the phrase suggests. Because Pro absorbed the old Business plan, it carries team functionality — but the comparison table caps it at one style guide, one brand tone and two user groups. SAML single sign-on, SCIM, custom roles, audit logs, data loss prevention and BYOK encryption are all Enterprise-only. For a real organisation those are the features that matter, and none are priced.
- The free plan remains one of the better ones in software. Unlimited spelling and grammar checking, tone detection and 100 AI prompts a month, permanently, across desktop and browser extensions. For a great many users it is sufficient.
Who Should Use Grammarly
- Anyone who writes professionally. The clearest case — the free tier alone justifies installing it.
- People wanting rewriting and tone control. Full-sentence rewrites and tone adjustment are Pro features.
- Writers needing plagiarism and AI detection. Both arrive at Pro.
- Large organisations with security requirements. SSO, SCIM, DLP and BYOK, via Enterprise.
It fits poorly for buyers who need to know the recurring charge before signing up; for teams needing more than one style guide or brand tone; and for anyone whose needs are met by the free tier, which is more than most people expect.
Honest Pros and Cons
Strengths

- €0 payment today — no charge to start the trial.
- 2,000 AI prompts per member on Pro.
- Pro consolidates the old Premium and Business tiers.

- ProWritingAid is the closest direct competitor on editing depth.
- Wordtune focuses specifically on rewriting.
- Hemingway Editor is a simple one-off purchase for readability.

The Verdict
Grammarly earns its position, and its free plan is one of the more generous in software — unlimited spelling and grammar checking, tone detection and 100 AI prompts a month, permanently, across desktop apps and browser extensions. A large share of users never need more than that, which is worth saying before discussing the paid tiers at all. The company has also simplified its structure: Pro now absorbs both the old Premium and the old Business plans, so there is one paid consumer tier rather than three overlapping ones.
The pricing page has one clear omission. The Free card says “€0 EUR / month”; the Pro card says “€12 EUR” with a line through the number and no period at all. Nothing elsewhere on the page fills the gap — no “billed monthly”, no “per year”, no small print. The card instead emphasises ”€0 payment today” and a seven-day trial, and the upgrade flow asks you to create an account before it discloses terms. So a buyer comparing Grammarly against alternatives cannot tell from published information what the recurring charge is. The strikethrough compounds this: €12 is crossed out because the trial is free, not because the price has been reduced, but visually it reads as a discount.
Credit where it is due on the trial itself. “Email reminder 2 days before trial ends” is printed on the plan card, not buried in terms — and among the vendors in this survey, very few commit to warning customers before a trial converts. If you do subscribe, the thing to check is scope rather than price. Pro carries “team features that were previously available only in the Business plan”, but the comparison table caps them at one style guide, one brand tone and two user groups. SAML SSO, SCIM, custom roles, audit logs, data loss prevention and BYOK encryption are all Enterprise, which is quoted. For an individual writer Pro is comprehensive; for an organisation it is an entry point to a sales conversation.
FAQ
How much does Grammarly cost?
The Free plan is €0 per month. Pro shows €12 EUR on the plans page captured July 2026, but the card states no billing period — unlike the Free card, which specifies “/ month”. Enterprise is quoted rather than published. Grammarly offers a 7-day free trial of Pro with €0 payment due at signup.
Is Grammarly’s €12 Pro plan monthly or annual?
The pricing page does not say. The Free card carries “/ month” beneath its €0; the Pro card shows €12 struck through with no period, followed by “€0 payment today” and a 7-day trial. No billing language appears elsewhere on the page, and the upgrade flow requires account creation before showing terms — so the recurring charge is not established by published information.
Is Grammarly’s free plan worth using?
For many people it is sufficient on its own. It includes unlimited spelling and grammar checking, writing tone detection and 100 AI prompts a month, permanently, with no time limit. What it lacks is full-sentence rewriting, tone adjustment, unlimited personalised suggestions, plagiarism and AI-text detection, and the larger 2,000-prompt allowance — all of which require Pro.
What happened to Grammarly Premium and Business?
They have been consolidated into Pro. Grammarly’s FAQ states that Pro “includes all of the advanced writing features included in Premium, such as tone suggestions and full-sentence rewrites, plus team features that were previously available only in the Business plan.” Existing Premium subscribers who switch have their Premium subscription cancelled with a prorated refund.
Does Grammarly Pro work for teams?
Partly. Pro inherited the old Business plan’s team features, but the comparison table limits it to one style guide, one brand tone and two user groups. SAML single sign-on, SCIM provisioning, custom roles and permissions, audit logs, data loss prevention, BYOK encryption and session timeout all require the Enterprise tier, which has no published price and is delivered through Superhuman Go.
