MemberPress has allowed me to transition a trade association to online membership processing and management fairly quickly and easily. As we were undergoing an entire revamp of our tech stack, this plugin has taken some of that stress off our shoulders.
The customization of using MemberPress with my theme (Divi) has been a little murky. I feel like I might need a little hand-holding in the coming months. I've been digging through tutorial videos from other users on Youtube to understand how to fully take advantage of the existing features. One feature I really need that Memberpress doesn't yet have is a member directory. So the integration between MP and a 3rd party solution is disjointed (nonexistent) and could really use some work. Also adding all of our existing members (from pre-MP) is hairy. We're getting the hang of it.
For a trade association that was originally only using manual invoices and checks to process membership applications and renewals, MP has allowed us to set those all up online and automate renewals. It helps secure recurring revenue and facilitate contactless payment pretty easily!
Easy to setup for non-techies initially, plenty of features out of the box, and it integrates with plenty of other plugins in the WP ecosystem.
Migration from another platform cannot be done without someone technical. While it does integrate with other plugins (Eg: Buddyboss), you can very quickly end up with a mess that seems duct-taped together. There are so many configuration options it can be very confusing, and it can be tough to customize unless you have PHP skills.
It helped me validate the desire of people to join my paid community. As soon as that was validated, I moved onto a different, more extensible, and easier to customize platform.
The membership system. And the protected content.
I think it would be better if you have more functionalities like BBPress. For the price I think it's not the whole value.
The content protection for a website
MemberPress offers an affordable and easy to use WordPress membership plugin for those that want to get going and launch their products or services quickly. The onboarding and getting started tutorials make it super-easy to set up your pages even if you're new to web design. Over the last year, I have used it I have seen some steady new integrations which have helped a small business like mine run smoothly.
After 8 months and the need for a lot more specific features, it was evident that MemberPress were just not integrating fast enough with the 3rd party tools we needed. We had also changed email service providers and unfortunately due to our new supplier not being on their list of partnership we couldn't transfer our members over. At the time we started setting up and using MemberPress their tutorials were mainly text based screenshots which I found a little annoying. I desperately needed video tutorials and so I ended up searching Youtube to learn how to get my pages customised by others.
MemberPress helps us to create super-fast membership only pages on our WordPress websites and enables us to start charging for it with its integrations with PayPal and Stripe.
The ability to provide everything needed to be a platform plugin that has the capabilities to deliver quality and personable products to customers.
The fast load times if there is too much content with a user experience.
Giving me access to more insights and control over how I support my customers who access my portal. This custom approach gives them the ability to be provided.
you can create a course on your website easily
lack of protection, integration with ip control systems, buggy interface, buggy video embedding, support slow at answering, if they answer at all
I need course and member area on my website
The idea of it is great - we need a system to organize our members and allow them to log in to our website.
It is not at all user friendly - you will definitely need a programmer to help implement this and make it work.
Giving people a login to watch content that is behind a paywall.
Somewhat user-friendly software. Look for alternatives.
Customer service is nonexistent. Their phone number is disconnected. They don't return emails. Horrible service!
None. They cause problems.
1. The price! 2. You can do Courses +Membership all in one place
1. I have used Podia, Thinkific and compared to those, you do need to spend some time to figure things out and educate yourself. At the moment, they do not have video tutorials or walkthroughs. All their resources are text-based AND VERY general. So get ready, especially if you know basic to no coding. 2. No live chat or customer service line to call. If you run into a problem, the only way to solve it is to submit a ticket and wait for them to respond to you via Email. They are usually quick to respond. But sometimes, you have to send 5-10 Emails back and forth to get an issue resolved. And they are not all helpful if you have more of an in-depth issue. There is only one girl named Amanda, who has been really helpful and goes above and beyond to help you solve the problem. The rest seem like wanting to clear their inbox rather than providing support. 3. They rely on hiring a developer. I do think that many people end up hiring an expert to set things up, and that is why they don't have legit resources for people with general knowledge. I checked the rates, and to be honest, you might save more if you go with a course builder websites. 4. They sell this plugin as "easy to set up." As a person with general knowledge, I can assure you that this is not true. I have faced many technical issues in the process, and I am not close to being done! This plugin has been the most complex plugin I have ever got. When I reached out to hire someone on Memberfix, they agreed with me and said "MemberPress is a big piece of tech" That is their exact word in parenthesis!
Selling courses + memberships. There are other options for both Courses and Memberships, but I wanted to have them both in one place.
The back end is quite powerful. MemberPress gives you pretty much everything you need for the BACK END of a membership site.
There is very little customization you can do on the front end without custom CSS. I am surprised there isn't more one can do with the sign up forms given memberpress' costs. It's a real shame. My team will be moving to WooCommerce Subscriptions.
None. I uninstalled MemberPress and moved to WooCommerce subscriptions. Not having a look and feel editor is unacceptable in 2021 in my opinion.
We chose memberpress as it has a number of features and tools that are lacking in the competition. In particular we liked the range of integrations that allow memberpress to be connected to other services. In terms of usability, its UI is reasonably well presented, most options are self explanatory and the package as a whole should be fairly easy to understand by most users.
Unfortunately, we could not be more disappointed with this product. Since launching our clients membership website, we have experienced major issues on an almost monthly basis. Many of these bugs have cost the company $$$. As a senior PHP developer, who has now thoroughly reviewed the mp code base (I had too, in order to fix the thing), I can say with full confidence that this software is absolutely *not* fit for production. The code quality is very poor, error handling is conspicuously absent and support team doesn't seem to care so much. Avoid like the plague – I dearly wish we had.
We are using memberpress to handle our subscriptions for user access to premium content. Unfortunately, the multitude of issues we have faced far outweigh any 'benefits'. It's cost has thousands in dev hours. It's cost our client an unknown amount of money in missing transactions.
