Compare Coda with other popular tools in the same category.
The aesthetic is fantastic, the tools are powerful yet easy to use.
It can be a bit slow when getting a lot of data in a table
It's so customizable that any kind of data or organization you want to do you can find a great way to keep it together, display it, and use formulas to show what you want to see.
It's flexibility. It has so many usecases, from simple note-taking/knowledge bases through to invoice tracking and project planning. I have used Coda for all of the above.
There's very little not to like, except a few minor things such as lack of syntax highlighting in code blocks. The mobile app is also fairly lackluster beyond basic reading. The pricing can also be either very reasonable or a tad expensive depending on how you want to use it.
Coda has made collaboration and information gathering much easier, bringing together powerful tables and a canvas. Combined with their API I have used it to solve many problems.
Coda is great to import and transform data quickly. You can import from a CSV add some column with special functions and have a good overview of the data in no time. Convert the table to a chart and see even more. We are using coda to get a better overview on our invoices. We import monthly exports from Stripe and combine them with the manual invoices and with Coda we can pull any report we want out of this data.
Sometimes it feels as if Coda uses a lot of resources. Working with a lot of data also sometimes causes Chrome to freeze. Anyways, this is not a big problem as all data is always saved.
I can get data from a few different sources and show it to my team. Everyone sees where the data comes from and can add more information or do other transformations so that we all can get more insights.
The thing I love most about Coda is how I can organize information. I can seamlessly structure my thoughts in a way that's easy for me to navigate by leveraging docs, tables, and pages/sub pages. The endless ways I can view information makes Coda my favorite.
I don't like that I'm not as well versed in the formulas as I'd like to be. I'd also love more color flexibility at times.
Before Coda, I felt like I had notes and projects in 10 different programs. Coda allows me to bring everything into one place to better manage everything I'm working on. Coda also allows me to create unique interactive experiences for clients, like question generators, without needing to know how to code.
Great onboarding experience with good videos explaining the core concepts. Fantastic and responsive support, great pricing model so you can get a lot done before paying for a subscription. easy to use and comprehensive packs that allow me to integrate with other apps. And most of all, the comprehensive system of documents, tables, formulas, buttons and forms that allows me to bring my ideas to life with minimal coding
The mobile experience is not as strong as the desktop so it is hard to bring what I need to mobile devices as easily as to a PC browser. Would be nice to have an easy mindmapping capability for brainstorming either as a pack or in coda formulas - but that's just my pet need because of what I'm trying to build
I'm trying to create a system to support life coaching with a specific focus on people at "pivot points" in their life, looking for purpose in life. Coda is the only product I could find that allows me to develop the solution I have in mind
Coda is incredibly malleable. You can create exactly what you need if you understand how it works. Our entire team runs on Coda, and more people throughout the company are incorporating it into their workflows. In addition, the packs and automation make this an unbeatable software!
The one thing I can think of is that, initially, it has a steep learning curve. Because it is so flexible and malleable, you have to spend a bit more time learning how to use it. But, once you do, the pay off is HUGE!
It is solving several problems. First of all, it is my personal organization central. Second, it's helping our team conduct more efficient and meaningful meetings. Third, it's helping us onboard new team members and have all the information they need in one beautiful Coda doc. Fourth, it's helping us with cross-functional project management; Coda houses processes that involve several teams across our organization. Finally, it functions as our knowledge hub.
Coda is the best mix of flexibility + ability to style documents + and affordable pricing in this space.
Some of the advanced functionality or layouts are complicated to use / build.
We're using Coda for our company handbooks, including in-house user guides, as well as for staff Onboarding projects, and project briefs.
The Coda Pack and automations are where the product shines
There is a learning curve for the advanced features, which is understandable. I would like Coda to improve some column functions, their calendar, template generation, page customization and handling of both cover images and images in doc canvases. But that's me nitpicking. It's a great product.
Being able to bring workflows to order with automations and formulas are great for saving time and creating structures work.
I love the flexibility and collaboration. So many ways to look at data and information!
Super particular, but if you sort a table, you can't also rearrange the rows. Formulas are also different than excel and harder to understand.
Mainly having a task list for each team along with documentation of our procedures.
I like that Coda is a great mixture of app, spreadsheet, database and codable solution. I have built out a front-end which allows people to view data which looks slick and has functionality with different views and buttons dependent on the user with a back-end that allows me to protect the integrity of data and build automated workflows. I have integrated Coda with slack allowing for great workflow tooling. What's great is there is excellent out of the box functionality for things like conditional formatting but also the Coda formulas allow for more customised approach where required. Coda is quite intiutive and pretty easy to go from zero to hero relatively quickly. Finally, Coda is aesthetically pleasing which draws in leadership and front line colleagues in a similar fashion.
While there is a lot of documentation on functionality and packs some of this is not quite correct (at the time of writing) which has lead to some time spent going down the rabbit hole to find the correct solution.,
Enterprise solutions from data presentation to app building for my team. Coda has allowed me to build a solution which has seen both myself and other parts of the organisation use the cross-doc pack to leverage existing (and my) data to build very powerful solutions and reduce duplicative buids.
