Crazy Egg Expert Review

Crazy Egg’s pricing page opens with the line “View website heatmaps & start A/B Testing in less than 60 seconds”. The $29 Starter plan directly beneath it does not include A/B testing. Unlimited A/B testing first appears on Plus at $99 — more than three times the entry price. The Starter card is otherwise generous, and nothing about the omission is hidden, but the headline sits directly above a plan that cannot deliver half of what it promises.

  • What it is: A heatmap, session recording, and A/B testing tool used on more than 449,000 websites.
  • Best for: Mid-sized sites doing regular conversion work, on the Plus plan.
  • Pricing: Starter $29, Plus $99, Pro $249, Enterprise $599 per month, billed annually. Verified July 2026.
  • The honest catch: Starter tracks 5,000 pageviews a month — roughly 167 a day.

What Is Crazy Egg?

Crazy Egg is one of the original heatmap tools, now covering heatmaps, session recordings, A/B testing, CTAs, error tracking, web analytics, conversion funnels, and on-site surveys. It claims more than 449,000 websites.

Crazy Egg’s pricing page showing Starter at $29, Plus at $99, Pro at $249 and Enterprise at $599 per month, all billed annually.

The commercial model rests on two meters — tracked pageviews and session recordings — with heatmap report counts as a third limit. Everything else is generous to a fault: unlimited website domains and unlimited team members on every plan including the cheapest, plus unlimited web analytics, conversion tracking, funnel reports, and surveys.

Every plan carries a 30-day free trial, and the footnote is unusually welcome: “No overages, ever.”

How Crazy Egg Works

  • Pageviews and recordings are the meters.
  • All plans are billed annually — no monthly option is offered.
  • A/B testing requires Plus at $99.
  • Unlimited domains and team members on every tier.
  • No overage charges at any point.
  • SAML SSO requires Enterprise at $599.

Crazy Egg Pricing

Captured from Crazy Egg’s pricing page in July 2026 in US dollars. All plans are billed annually.

Plan Monthly Pageviews/mo Heatmaps Recordings/mo Storage A/B testing
Starter $29 5,000 5 50 6 months No
Plus $99 150,000 75 1,000 2 years Unlimited
Pro $249 500,000 100 5,000 2 years Unlimited
Enterprise $599 1,000,000 200 10,000 2 years Unlimited
Plan Per 1,000 pageviews Per heatmap report
Starter $5.80 $5.80
Plus $0.66 $1.32
Pro $0.50 $2.49
Enterprise $0.60 $3.00

Bar chart of Crazy Egg cost per heatmap report: $5.80 on Starter, $1.32 on Plus, $2.49 on Pro and $3.00 on Enterprise.

What actually decides your plan:

  • Starter cannot A/B test. Unlimited A/B testing, CTAs, and error tracking appear first on Plus. Given that A/B testing is named in the page’s own hero line, and that Crazy Egg’s product identity is conversion optimisation, the real entry price for the advertised product is $99 rather than $29.
  • Five thousand pageviews is about 167 a day. That is a personal site or a very early-stage product, not a business doing conversion work. Plus jumps to 150,000 — thirty times as many — which is the more realistic first tier for a functioning website.
  • Plus is the best value on two separate measures. At $0.66 per thousand pageviews it is nearly nine times cheaper than Starter, and at $1.32 per heatmap report it is the cheapest tier by a wide margin. Pro is 89% more expensive per report and Enterprise 127% more.
  • Enterprise costs more per pageview than Pro. $0.50 per thousand on Pro against $0.60 on Enterprise — so doubling your traffic allowance from 500,000 to a million costs 140% more, not 100%. The volume curve turns against you at the top, which is the opposite of what the tier names imply.
  • Reports scale far slower than traffic. Pageview allowances run 5,000 to 1,000,000 across the range — a factor of 200. Heatmap reports run 5 to 200, a factor of 40. So a Starter user gets 1,000 pageviews per available heatmap and an Enterprise user gets 5,000. Past Plus you are buying traffic capacity much faster than the reports to analyse it with, and Crazy Egg sells additional heatmaps only as a sales-negotiated add-on.
  • Unlimited seats and domains is genuinely unusual. Every plan, including the $29 one, allows unlimited team members and unlimited website domains. In a category where competitors routinely meter both, that is a real differentiator and it applies from the bottom of the range.

Who Should Use Crazy Egg

  • Mid-sized sites on Plus. The clearest case — 150,000 pageviews, unlimited A/B testing, and the best per-report rate.
  • Agencies and multi-site operators. Unlimited domains at no extra cost, on any plan.
  • Teams that want everyone looking at the data. Unlimited team members on every tier.
  • Anyone burned by usage bills. “No overages, ever” is a firm commitment.

It fits poorly for anyone expecting A/B testing at $29; for very high-traffic sites, where the per-pageview rate worsens above 500,000; and for teams wanting monthly billing, since every plan is annual.

Honest Pros and Cons

Strengths

  • Unlimited team members and domains on every plan.
  • No overage charges, stated plainly.
  • Unlimited surveys, funnels, and conversion tracking at every tier.
  • A 30-day free trial on all plans.
  • AI analysis for heatmaps and recordings included from Starter.
  • Two years of recording storage from Plus upward.

Limitations

  • A/B testing is absent from the $29 plan.
  • 5,000 pageviews a month on Starter — about 167 a day.
  • All plans are billed annually, with no monthly option.
  • Enterprise costs more per pageview than Pro.
  • Heatmap reports scale 40x against 200x for pageviews.
  • SAML SSO requires Enterprise at $599.

Crazy Egg Alternatives and How It Compares

  • Hotjar is the best-known competitor, combining heatmaps, recordings, and feedback.
  • Microsoft Clarity is genuinely free, with heatmaps and session recordings and no pageview cap.
  • Lucky Orange bundles heatmaps with live chat at a low price.
  • Mouseflow and Smartlook focus on session replay and funnel analysis.
  • VWO and Optimizely are the dedicated experimentation platforms for serious testing programmes.
  • FullStory and Contentsquare target enterprise digital experience analytics.

For a broader survey, browse our A/B testing directory and our conversion rate optimization directory.

The Verdict

Crazy Egg gets one important thing right that most of this category gets wrong: unlimited team members and unlimited website domains on every plan, including the $29 one, with no overage charges ever. Competitors routinely meter seats, domains, or both, and then bill you for exceeding them. Being able to put your whole team and every site you run on the entry plan without a per-seat conversation is a genuine and underrated advantage.

The plan to choose is Plus, and the reason is that Starter cannot do the thing the page advertises. “Start A/B Testing in less than 60 seconds” appears directly above a $29 plan with no A/B testing on it — that capability begins at $99. Nor is Starter’s 5,000 monthly pageviews, about 167 a day, enough for a site doing conversion work in the first place. Plus is also the best value in the range on both meters: $0.66 per thousand pageviews and $1.32 per heatmap report, comfortably cheaper per unit than either tier above it.

Two things worth watching if you scale. Enterprise costs more per pageview than Pro — $0.60 against $0.50 per thousand — so the top tier is not the volume discount its position suggests. And across the whole range, pageview allowances grow 200-fold while heatmap reports grow only 40-fold, so the higher you climb the more traffic you have relative to the reports available to make sense of it. Crazy Egg sells extra heatmaps as a sales-negotiated add-on rather than publishing a rate, so if reports rather than traffic are your constraint, raise that before signing an annual contract — which, since there is no monthly option, is the only kind on offer.

FAQ

How much does Crazy Egg cost?

Captured in July 2026 in US dollars, with all plans billed annually: Starter is $29 a month for 5,000 tracked pageviews, Plus is $99 for 150,000, Pro is $249 for 500,000, and Enterprise is $599 for 1,000,000. Every plan includes unlimited website domains, unlimited team members, and a 30-day free trial, and Crazy Egg charges no overages.

Does Crazy Egg’s cheapest plan include A/B testing?

No. Unlimited A/B testing, CTAs, and error tracking first appear on the Plus plan at $99 a month. The $29 Starter plan includes heatmaps, session recordings, web analytics, conversion tracking, funnel reports, and surveys, but not A/B testing — despite A/B testing being named in the headline directly above the plan cards.

Which Crazy Egg plan is the best value?

Plus, on both meters. It works out at $0.66 per thousand tracked pageviews against $5.80 on Starter, and $1.32 per heatmap report against $2.49 on Pro and $3.00 on Enterprise. It is also the cheapest plan that includes A/B testing. Unless you specifically need more than 150,000 monthly pageviews, Plus is the tier to buy.

Does Crazy Egg charge for extra pageviews?

No. The pricing page states “No overages, ever.” If you exceed your monthly allowance you are not billed extra, though tracking behaviour beyond the limit is worth confirming with Crazy Egg directly. Additional heatmap reports and recordings are available as add-ons, but only through sales rather than at a published rate.

Can I pay for Crazy Egg monthly?

No. The pricing page states that all plans are billed annually, and no monthly toggle is offered on any tier. That makes the smallest commitment $348 for a year of Starter, or $1,188 for a year of Plus — which is the cheapest plan that includes A/B testing.

"Loyal Crazy Egg Customer for Over 8 Years"
What do you like best about Crazy Egg?

The Crazy Egg interface is super easy to use, and the snapshots it generates are powerful. They provide actionable insights by showing us what's important to our users so that we can help give them more of what they want and less of what they don't. We've been using this tool for over eight years and continue to find value in it!

What do you dislike about Crazy Egg?

The main downside is that setting up snapshots is a manual process. Pages that are viewed by users aren't automatically tracked and stored, so you have to set up each page you want captured. We've had our interns work on this though, which has helped with the amount of time and effort a program manager would have to spend on setup.

What problems is Crazy Egg solving and how is that benefiting you?

Crazy Egg snapshot results help us quickly and easily identify what's most important to our users because they are so visual, and we often use it in conjunction with our web analytics tool. For example, when we've noticed in the past that our search bar is red hot in a Crazy Egg heatmap, we look in our web analytics tool to see what they're searching for from that page, and then we adjust the page content/creative to include what they're looking for.

"Crazy Egg"
What do you like best about Crazy Egg?

What I like best about Crazy Egg is just how much data you can get from this site. I love how you can easily see exactly where your users are viewing your site and how it allows you to see videos of exactly what a user was going on a webpage.

What do you dislike about Crazy Egg?

There’s not actually much I dislike about Crazy Egg. Though if I had to give one aspect I didn’t love, it would be at first it felt a little tedious getting everything set up. Though once you get used to how the site works, overall, it’s very easy to navigate and use.

What problems is Crazy Egg solving and how is that benefiting you?

The problems I was solving with Crazy Egg, were that we needed to gain more insight about how our users would actually use our website. We wanted to know exactly where users were spending their time and what aspects of a webpage would being viewed and clicked on the most. This overall aspect also ended up being the major benefit, when we would see certain areas on a site that didn’t get much attention (by viewing the heat map), we were able to make changes to our site & test if that made a difference.

What do you like best about Crazy Egg?

What I like best about this site is how effective it is, overall. I love being able to see exactly where users are looking at a web page. It's a very powerful application/site to utilize when you're trying to optimize a website/page.

What do you dislike about Crazy Egg?

The only thing I disliked about Crazy Egg is that sometimes when logging into the account, the page would move a little slower than I would have liked. Though I think this may have been because there was a lot of content being reviewed, when I would log in.

What problems is Crazy Egg solving and how is that benefiting you?

The problems I was solving with Crazy Egg were to see exactly what (on a web page) drew the users attention. The major benefit of Crazy Egg was discovering exactly where (on a web page) our users seemed to focus their time. This allowed us to make changes and adjustments based on actual user activity.

What do you dislike about Crazy Egg?

Cost of the enterprise version, even it's a little cheaper than the competitor. Scrollmaps colour coding is a little confusing. When Performing a google search on your product, we see Hotjar as the first result.

"Great tool for heat mapping and recordings!"
What do you like best about Crazy Egg?

I like that CrazyEgg is super simple to use. The set up and installation is quick and painless since you can utilize Google Tag Manager and not have to get a web developer involved to install the one time code snippet. I also really like how CrazyEgg's reporting dashboard is even more simple to use. The results are straight forward and easy to read. The latest updates of Crazy Egg's user interface has made the tool even easier to use.

What do you dislike about Crazy Egg?

Sometimes snapshot setups can be tricky when it comes to more complex tracking, like multiple devices and omitting pop ups. I also wish there was a little more support from a CrazyEgg representative to check to see if we're using the tool to its full ability. I have a feeling there is a ton of value that CrazyEgg can provide that our team doesn't know how to discover.

What problems is Crazy Egg solving and how is that benefiting you?

CrazyEgg is helping our team understand UX problems. We often times marry the heatmaps or clickmaps with web analytics data to paint a clearer picture. Ultimately, Crazy Egg is helping our team improve our online experience and increase brand advocacy.

"One stop closer to finding the buried treasure"
What do you like best about Crazy Egg?

I love the videos more than anything. The videos really show me the customer journey and puts me in the shoes of the customer, which helps me figure out how to better communicate with them. If i see they a large set of them are all going to one page after the landing page, then I know I need to put that information on the landing page so that I keep them engaged. I also love the A/B test but wish it were easier to make it look more in line with design and font with the site.

What do you dislike about Crazy Egg?

The A/B test. I love-hate it. I love what it can do for simple things, like changing up messaging, or hiding elements. BUT I hate how hard it is to switch out creative assets like images and have it not make the design of the site look wonky.

What problems is Crazy Egg solving and how is that benefiting you?

CRO problems. One problem was that we saw everyone going from a landing page to a page called life mode, and then leaving our site altogether after life mode. From CrazyEgg, I was able to see why people were leaving thes ite after the life mode page. I had no interaction for them on that page. I added buttons, more information about life mode, blog posts from our site, and videos, and saw immediate positive results.

"Incredible insights in a very short amount of time spent in the product"
What do you like best about Crazy Egg?

Crazy Egg is super simple -- once setup, it begins collections all sorts of data right away such as where your site visitors are clicking, scrolling, etc. I look once a week or so on key landing pages and pages and we make informed adjustments derived from the what we see and infer.

What do you dislike about Crazy Egg?

Nothing in particular. We have some ideas for the product to evolve even further but there is no one feature that I dislike.

What problems is Crazy Egg solving and how is that benefiting you?

We use CrazyEgg to improve our performance with our ad campaigns (mainly Google Ads), and we use it to inform our team on various site improvements we can make over time to fight off stagnation.

"Great platform to add depth and substance to user behavior analysis. "
What do you like best about Crazy Egg?

I like the ease of use. There are several programs that do this sort of data collection, but CrazyEgg makes it easy to toggle between screen recordings, heat maps, and lists. I tend to use all of these with varying degrees depending on the website and client, and not having to hunt for the information is helpful. Their A/B testing tool is great, and I wish I could use it more often. Also the customer service is phenomenal. All of the interactions I've had with their product team and customer service have been helpful and pleasant.

What do you dislike about Crazy Egg?

There could be some improvement in the clarity of where to find settings, or why a certain website does not start recording sessions. It's not so much of a functional issue as a "where is this information?" and "where do I changes these settings" one. But that's a subjective insight.

What problems is Crazy Egg solving and how is that benefiting you?

It has made a huge difference in how we talk to clients about their campaign landing page structure, which has resulted in additional client work for our business. Also it's been a big help with how UX works with design and dev to show limitations of things like icons/elements not being clickable and users trying to click/engage in some way. It's provided clarity for the team overall and significant improvement in our products.

"Powerful tool with great support"
What do you like best about Crazy Egg?

I was able to up my heat map and landing page testing game so much after having a chance to speak to some of the great support people at Crazy Egg. I learned both about new features that provided interesting insights, and also how to look at the heat mapping data and pull actionable information out of it.

What do you dislike about Crazy Egg?

I haven't tried competitors so it's hard for me to make a comparison, but I don't have any complaints about Crazy Egg. Initially it was hard to share save and share old heat maps, but that feature has improved over the years as well.

What problems is Crazy Egg solving and how is that benefiting you?

A heat mapping tool like Crazy Egg is an essential part of landing page and conversion rate optimization. There are so many insights that suggest improvements and things to test with the A/B testing aspect of the tool.

"Crazy Egg lets us see all those things we can't see about our users!"
What do you like best about Crazy Egg?

We have loved using the recordings feature to watch how users are engaging (or not!) with our content. We've made multiple informed tweaks to content structure, order, and content based on how we see our users interacting.

What do you dislike about Crazy Egg?

Sometimes CrazyEgg provides so much info and insight it can be a bit overwhelming to figure out where to focus efforts.

What problems is Crazy Egg solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are solving the problem of not knowing how our users behave. We have previously been able to roughly estimate - but we were usually pretty wrong! CrazyEgg helps us to analyze, predict, and tailor our site to user behavior.

"Crazy Egg is the best heat map app I've found"
What do you like best about Crazy Egg?

Craze Egg offers so many different ways to view and analyze usage of a website, like a heat map and scroll map, numbers and percentages of clicks on each link, and user information such as browser, OS, window size, etc., not to mention recordings of users' movements on the page.

What do you dislike about Crazy Egg?

It would be nice if I could somehow combine the results of two different snapshots; we're a university library, and our homepage hits 100,000 views in a couple months, and I'd love to be able to combine two or three snapshots to cover one whole semester.

What problems is Crazy Egg solving and how is that benefiting you?

We're figuring out what links get the most use on our website and which get barely any use, which has enabled us to do some weeding of links!

Crazy Egg provides valuable insight into the performance of our site. The A/B testing tool has helped us see which web page variants work best for our audience and helped us determine what changes to make for a better user experience. On top of that, the CrazyEgg staff has been incredibly kind and helpful in answering questions and providing free webinars to better understand the tool.

"Changed the way we redesign websites"
What do you like best about Crazy Egg?

Crazy Egg has offered us the missing piece to our website analytics. Not only do we understand how visitors interact with our clients websites, but we also can understand what needs to be changed on the websites to create a better user experience. Specifically, we love the heatmaps and recordings which we analyze more than once a week.

What do you dislike about Crazy Egg?

It’s hard to find things to dislike! Crazy Egg offers us SO MUCH helpful information that it has become an essential part of our onboarding toolbox. The price of Crazy Egg is way below the value it offers.

What problems is Crazy Egg solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are solving our Conversion Optimization solutions. Crazy Egg helps us find where visitors drop off and strategically place tools in those spaces to retain more visitors to convert.

"Easy Heatmapping and Quick A/B testing that works with Tag Manager"
What do you like best about Crazy Egg?

This is the only multivariant testing solution that works well with Google Tag Manager. Others like OPtimizely and VWO require hard coding scripts into your site which takes longer in a decentralized work environment where certain simple tasks take multuple 3-week sprints to complete.

What do you dislike about Crazy Egg?

I just wish there was a way to organize things better by project visually.

What problems is Crazy Egg solving and how is that benefiting you?

We use crazy egg to study user click and scrolling behaviors. There was one example of an article we posted about a product announcement and people were clicking on an image in the article. We realized that our visitors thought they can go to the product details page if they clicked on the still life image of the product line.

"Quick data, easy insights"
What do you like best about Crazy Egg?

Crazy Egg is quick to implement and provides a variety of insights on user behavior that can then be utilized to run A/B tests on site using their A/B testing tool.

What do you dislike about Crazy Egg?

The A/B testing tool is somewhat limited but provides the ability to implement user behavior based goals as success criteria.

What problems is Crazy Egg solving and how is that benefiting you?

I use Crazy Egg to monitor user behavior as well as implement CRO tests. You can quickly view what your visitors are doing on site as well as pin-point areas for improvement
