PostHog is one of many tools out there that let you walk in your users' footsteps and view your website the way they do. It's a great tool for diagnosing problems, polishing UI, or just for understanding how your product is being used in a way that goes deeper than simple usage analytics can.
I found the PostHog filtering for recordings to be a bit more difficult to use than other services I had tested. Perhaps this was because I was hung up on trying to do things the way other services did them. Ultimately, it took me a few tries to be able to retrieve a session recording via IP address, something I do to investigate support tickets.
When a customer emails you blindly that they "got an error" you're in the dark. PostHog is liking turning on the lights. You can discern what error was likely to have been encountered, and even see any other messages or console logs that might have contributed to the problem. It's very powerful and removes a lot of the guesswork out of supporting a frontend tool in public.
The onboarding experience was super smooth. It stepped me through how to integrate posthog into my app and confirmed everything was working which gave me confidence to try more features.
The navigation is quite jam packed. I'd prefer if it was stripped down to only the features I'm actually using.
I'm able to understand how users use my app, where they spend time and what percent complete specific journeys.
The free tier is generous, and setup was really simple. The SDK is straightforward and it's easy to follow up events in the interface.
The fact that an identify event goes through your quota is a bit misleading as it essentially will cost 1 event per user even if they do not generate any tracked event.
How users interact with certain features, and how many.
Setup is easy, clear pricing, nice to have regular analytics and screen recordings in same tool.
screen recordings are often missing some visual details. Great because we feel like we're getting it for "free" by already having an account, but would be harder to justify paying for individually.
Basic user funnel tracking and being able to see detailed views of how our users interact with the site via session recordings
The analytics platform has helped our businesses track user behavior on our SaaS. It provides features like event tracking, user analytics, and A/B testing, which has been valuable for understanding how our users interact with our digital product and optimizing user experiences.
Setting up and maintaining PostHog may require a certain level of technical expertise and resources, which could be a challenge for smaller businesses or organizations with limited technical capabilities.
User Engagement Understanding: PostHog allows us to track and analyze how users interact with our application. This helps us gain insights into user behavior, such as which features are popular, where users drop off, and what actions lead to conversions. This understanding can lead to improved user engagement strategies and product optimization.
Funnels and custom insights creation from the dashboard
So far I don't have bad feedback about it
Heavy analytics libraries take too much time to load at first while delivering a limited amount of insight.
A better, more powerful, useful, and easier-to-use tool for analytics, and various other features for product development. Simple integration also.
The app and the dashboard feels overwhelming.
Gaining a better understanding of the users who utilize our digital products by obtaining additional details.
Completudo de funcionalidades e possibilidades
Interface pouco intuitiva e demanda muitas coisas manuais
Permite monitoramento de eventos de usuários
Screen recordings are really great for pinpointing user frustrations
I would like it if the dashboard came with a better set of default views
Posthog solves user analytics and observability for us. It lets us get vital metrics on who's using our site and how they are using it.
It's easy to use and it has many features for the free plan which is excellent, especially since we are a Startup and compared it to compatriots Posthog has the recordings and the insights in the same tool, which is cool
The documentation is great, but it can be better
We needed insights about our website traffic and Posthog solved it, we also needed a tool to have our insights and The Sessions recordings at the same time which Posthog solved as well.
Amazing dashboard and helpful analytics.
Network recording is inly available on the pro tier
Helpinh track customer's movement on the website
Best parts of posthog is availability of integration with other clickstream platforms. Along with that it provides loads of out of the box features not available with similar platforms including feature flag and session replay, which has greately helped us understand our product usage and build new feature development pipelines efficiently.
The issues with poshog is it's initial seup which i found to be very engineering heavy, being an engineer without data platform knowledge i found it difficult to explain the workings to product teams and had to learn setting up the funnel which is available in few other similar tools like mix panel.
Posthog has helped us understand the products and funnels better so we are able to plan a better user experience for out customers and will be seeing a surge in organic growth hopefully once the features go live and posthog will be our analytics platform while seeing the conversion and growth, and user experience of our new platform.
Impressive user tracking and behavior analysis capabilities out of the box. Customizable metrics and funnels allowed me to set up personalized insights. Developer-friendly API & SDKs simplified integration. Seamless integration & deployment options seamlessly fit into my workflow.
Limited out-of-the-box integrations with third-party tools. Advanced analytics features may require additional configuration. Documentation could be more comprehensive in certain areas. Occasional delays in addressing community-reported bugs.
I've experienced the significant benefits this tool brings to my analytics and product optimization efforts. PostHog solves crucial problems by providing powerful user tracking, enabling me to understand user behavior patterns and optimize the user experience as well as make better business decisions. With customizable metrics and funnels, I gain actionable insights tailored to my specific goals. Overall, PostHog empowers me to make data-driven decisions and drive growth for my business.
Helps measure all the post API calls instead of tagging each of them manually
The dashboard is not intuitive enough if compared to Mixpanel, Amplitude, etc.
Measuring events on the post API calls as we've a B2B product
Interface is terrific with easy navigation
It would be great if I could set up "templates" for reporting rather than recreating each time
Helping our business understand conversion on various customer attributes
It's detailed analytics system that's powerful and not as difficult or complex as it initially seemed like it might have been. It will show more insights than other tools like plausible would, and the session recording will be very useful for client projectsl
The lack of youtube videos is probably my biggest critique. I think explaining how to capture custom events with JavaScript would be useful. Also setting up a proxy for the tracking script would be useful to see done through cloudflare.
It will hopefully allow me to add A/B testing to the list of services that my Webflow development studio offers to clients, allowing us to not only create a good design but deliver on the analytics / data front as well.
The whole PostHog onboarding process is pretty seamless. Great for startups that want to "just integrate analytics and forget about it" until later stages.
The React SDK / library didn't really work for my workflow (serving static files), so I just defaulted back to the vanilla JS library.
Understanding user behavior on the dashboard.
The integration was very straightforward. It took minutes to replace our Google analytics system and get better fibroids out of the data. I'm especially happy with the easy splitting between environments, even local
The name of the product is awful. I hate saying it to my co founder. The defaults on data collection are a pii nightmare. We had to manually turn everything off after a quick audit. I know we could self host, but tracking all of that data by default is dangerous.
Funnel analysis and data metric tracking.
- Auto capture events - Heatmap showed on the actual page - Toolbar functionality for checking element actions - DAU and MAU dashboards - User cohorts and applying filters - Movement of cursor on the screen
- Hotjar like heatmaps with wildcard URL support - Options to get feedback from users and visualize - Shorter session recordings compared to hotjar - Need to embed code in order to track elements (Hotjar is nocode)
PostHog is solving the problem of visibility for the product team, how the different features are being used and in what capacity. It is also helping the design team to view the different recordings, comment on how the current UI/UX is working, and brainstorm on the future version of the designs on the platform. It is also helping define the product strategy with basic data like which browser is used, which region is being used etc.
