Detailed information about almost any significant online product in the world
Sometimes information about mobile apps is not available
Product research, competitors analysis, marketing trends research, high level product performance analysis
After joining SimilarWeb, we've been impressed with the insights gathered across competitors and also partner sites. It's been beneficial in understanding marketing channel strategy and also where we can improve our SEO rating. Overall, it's not only good for an audit but also for collating & implementing an annual digital strategy and understanding pockets of areas of improvement (from PPC, to display advertising to Aggregators). Overall, I would recommend SimilarWeb and particularly their knowledge enterprise managers.
There could be a rating of how easy it would be to rank for a keyword, thus ensuring it is worthwhile to write new articles. I believe this could be included soon.
Understanding Competitors and also key partners. We've been able to understand new areas.
The coverage of all industry sectors really suprise me. The horizontal analysis is readily available. Also, I love the list of similar sites showing competitors to the target.
The searching criteria mainly focus on the website itself. They barely reach the product line of the company. Additionally, similarweb never provides the contact information of the company listed in the database.
Our company is based in the United States and would like to expand Canadian and Brazilian market. By scoping out the companies with significant volumes from these two countries. We may pursue a feasibility study.
very clear to see the website data from different angles
the accuracy of website technology being used
as part of service provider the website owner may use, I can understand the whole picture of customers' business, which makes me to have more topic to talk with merchant, and to verify a lot of information of our side
Discovering how big your competitors are online and understanding which of them are growing; learning about niche players in your industry and which demographics they attract; understanding traffic drivers. The interface is user friendly.
Many exciting features are behind significant paywalls: in some cases it makes more sense to to launch a campaign to test the market and get your own data instead. It's not always clear how accurate the estimates are.
Discovering how big an online presence is compared to others in the industry; identifying where target demographics are online; defining online markets
With Similarweb, you are able to gain competitive insight into any and every competitor website on the web, and there are no extra charges or fees if you want to keep expanding your competitive set.
The data provided can be a little too high level at times.
We're able to gain insight into how other CPG companies are leveraging their website to drive traffic, and we've been able to see that the degree to which websites are leveraged really varies by business. We've also been able to use Similarweb to benchmark our performance against competitors and in future, we plan to use Similarweb's segment analysis feature to gauge our competitor's performance in the D2C space.
website analysis industry analysis category analysis
some of the graphs in website analysis is not downloadable, not like how it works for the dashbaord, could we make very graph ready to download? also with the tables where the rankings are, would it be possible to offer a downlodable image of the top 10 rows? Another suggestion, would you considering offering a tooltip tool inside similarweb so every image downloaded for reports could be easily marked up
competitor analysis helps us to understand competitor market share and investment on different channels
Tools like Similarweb are only valuable if used for insight and action. Easy to gain value from the first experience. Also a great support team for any questions or one off reports.
Adding mobile web to most reports was a huge upgrade and made it much better.
Competitive analysis, referral sources, keyword opportunities.
SimilarWeb Pro has a vast and growing number of tools available to enable us to surface valuable insights quickly. The platform itself is sleek in design and very aesthetically pleasing. The data on the platform itself seems to be relatively accurate, and we have attempted to substantiate it several times with internal data - though the actual figures do not necessarily align, the trends and relative performance are frequently (nearly always) correct. I most often use the segment analysis tool and have found that it has only improved in my time using the platform, reflective of the constant development taking place. This part of the platform has excellent UX for the most part - though I have a small grumble when it comes to signposting, as it is unclear whether during the building phase you are using AND or OR functions... This was only explained to me once I had asked over a call. Outside of that, when I query roadmaps with our partnership manager, they are able to explain what new features are coming with confidence.
SimilarWeb can at times take longer than usual to load, and I have sometimes found that if I am struggling to do something, it is because it is not as clearly signposted as I perhaps think it should be. A prime example of this is in the segment analysis tool, whereby there is no explanation that words/phrases must be separated if you intend to use an OR function as opposed to AND function. Not knowing this for such an extended period meant that my historic workings may well be inaccurate due to the way I had understood the tool when I carried out those pieces of work. This can be slightly limiting to productivity - even despite training sessions available - as there is understandably no way that the folks at SimilarWeb can cover absolutely anything - but dropping an email through to get a response to a very quick query can be a little bit of a painful process r.e wait times.
SimilarWeb pro is working to enable us to better understand relative competitor performance across verticals where our market intelligence and competitive understanding is limited by a lack of data. For instance, we are able to use traffic share as a proxy for share of market, with heavy assumptions, but this aligns with where we believe market share to sit also; allowing us to loosely trend our peer group performance to be reported up the line.
SimilarWeb allows for competitive analysis in many different views allowing for drill-downs or overviews across digital marketing channels. Also, the ability to compare certain groups of competitors and industries allow for great analysis and insights.
The mobile data and categorizing of some channels present some limitations to the platform.
For some clients, we can identify competitors for them that they may not have thought of, and for more established clients, we can see a holistic view of competitors' marketing efforts.
Similarweb Pro is one of the best competitive intelligence and market research tools I've ever used—and I've used plenty. It's excellent for understanding how you stack up against others in your category in terms of website traffic, engagement, and especially marketing channels. They have also invested in their search engine insights and keep adding useful new features. I love the attention and partnership I get from our account manager. Our monthly phone calls are very consultative and help me take full advantage of the robust platform. With Similarweb, I have saved hours and hours on market research, and the data is credible, so when we make critical business decisions based upon it, I can feel extremely confident.
It's pretty pricey, and they do not offer discounts for nonprofits. I wish it didn't cost so much, especially compared to other expenses in my overall budget — it's just out of proportion. In addition, there are a few areas that they haven't cracked, so I have to ignore the data. For example, estimating the traffic contribution of Email as a channel is not believable. I wish I could view more year-over-year comparisons, but the limit is 12 months (at least for the level I've purchased anyway). I also wish it were easier to share dashboards between multiple users.
Similarweb Pro has been vital to understanding whether up or down trends we're experiencing are unique to us or are affecting our closest competitors, especially with COVID-19 and Facebook's algorithm updates. Showing my executive team what's going on and how we fare compared to others has been a lifesaver. Every summer, I do a deep dive into our close peers and a competitive landscape review. I simply could not do it without Similarweb. I share the search keyword insights with our content team to spark new ideas, show gaps in our coverage, and point out new opportunities.
fast respond time by sales team and customer support is good and very friendly web app is also easy to use and while we don't use the reports much from what i have seen they are clear and easy to work with . good insights on some leads we tested API integrations was relativity easy to setup and no downtime or issues we had experienced
Unfortunately there are some missing data on many sites that we check, i am not sure if on those similar web doesn't have any data or those websites are just too small to have any traction to provide analytics information. some data is not always accurate and require manual work on our side to check
we are trying to find out information on leads - when the data is accurate it helps us to prioritize leads. we are also trying to cross check some data points we have against the data Slimier web provide , when received it triggers us an alert that activate our quality control team to check the data - this saves us some time of manual work to check everything manually and instead we only check specific data points. - the best thing for us is that the API integration runs smoothly - then our users don't need to go into any outside online page and they can see all of the leads information on our CRM.
I love being able to pull together benchmarks against both direct competitors in the industry as well as "gold standard" brands from outside our industry.
I've found so many cool reports it can b hard to remember where to find them all again!
We have really gained a more comprehensive understanding of what our customer is doing before and after a visit to our site.
I can control all our relevant keywords and include them in the content. The tool helps me to find the right keywords thanks to the good overview and the recommendations for the content are also excellent.
The statistics can not be integrated with our existing, just in terms of outbound traffic would be very nice if it would work.
My employees can check our traffic on the homepage and see where we need to make improvements. We can target the right keywords and optimize them.

The ability to quickly compare our online activities against our competitors. Moreover, the sales department often uses this data when talking to our customers. It's very cool that you also develop SEO analysis.
Incomplete data on mobile traffic and no SEO visibility index. All the time I see a big discrepancy between the data from my Google Analytics 360 and the data presented in similarweb. Moreover, in dashboards, it would be useful to create a chart on which the displayed data could be selected, e.g. comparison of organic mobile traffic to desktop vs. mobile.
Monitoring the activities of the competitors and being able to compare to them. BTW. the ability to visualize, my traffic ratio vs. competition would be very useful. It's about showing the activity trend in a simple way, so such a ratio would help a lot.
Ability to get traffic numbers for small, niche sites that don't get enough traffic to be reported on in other third-party platforms; ability to get search/keyword insights; ability to use custom date ranges
There is no multi-platform aggregate of search data- desktop and mobile are separate. Worldwide data is limited unless you upgrade your account, you only get flexibility in reporting USA data. Site demographics are desktop only (SimilarWeb limitation), despite mobile having higher traffic in general.
Problems: See the dislike section. Benefits: Getting search intel and various site metrics over custom date ranges for properties that are not available in other third-party sources.
Rankings for Search, Display, etc Keywords
In order to drill down geographically, etc you have to pay more.
The rankings and keywords are very valuable in terms of strategy.
list of traffic sources for competitive websites, their ads, used keywords.
worldwide database is not so detailed for smaller European countries
we are able to look for an affiliate partners in many countries we are able to monitor our competitors activity and react really fast on their behaviour
The ability to get an accurate overview of a site's analytics.
The inaccuracies that often occur with smaller sites that don't receive high volumes of monthly traffic.
We use SimilarWeb Pro for competitive analysis, affiliate program partner research, and business development.
Ability to to perform a competitive analysis relatively quickly.
The inability to collaborate on workspaces with coworkers.
Greater insight into a prospects business situation prior to deep engagement. We have experienced increased efficiency during the Discovery phase of our projects.
Similarweb is a fantastic tool for market research. The ability to view the breakdown of traffic sources for any given website, say referral traffic, and dig in to the specific websites sending traffic is invaluable as we prospect for new partners.
Time-span of data often isn't clear or changes when clicking around a websites profile Chrome extension should work better, often has data that mismatches with what is on the website
Prospecting for new potential partners by analyzing competitor traffic. Measuring market-share for new potential business ventures Measuring website traffic for prospective partners to judge business potential
Chrome plug in Traffic stats Traffic source stats
Overall traffic not always 100% accurate Infomration about originating sites often not obviously useful
Identify popular sites and see how much traffic they have and where they get traffic from
I like that Similar web allows me to use their plug in to quickly ID impressions for sites.
Sometimes smaller bloggers are not on the site.
We're able to report impressions with the tool.
Compare feature, where web traffic comes from, chrome extension
Many sites will show "not enough data" in many important categories
Preparing for meetings by knowing pain points before speaking to the client
The best part for me has been the ability to track how visitors to competitor's websites arrive and what the most common keywords they search for are. It essentially provides an inside look into the Google Analytics information for your competitors.
While there is a lot of valuable information inherent in SimilarWeb, the data isn't always easy to actionable insights in the data. It takes the work of a data-driven individual or team to get the full functionality out of the product. That being said, it's a research tool, and should be utilized as such.
The biggest business problem we are solving has been learning where traffic to competitor's websites is coming from and how much traffic they generate compared to our more readily available data.
SimilarWeb seems to be more accurate than other platforms which offer a similar service: Compete and Alexa. In addition, SimilarWeb provides additional insights about referrers, UV location and more. SW also has some great, pretty much presentation-ready visuals you can screengrab and drop into a deck.
As with any platform, it's not always the MOST accurate - especially the free version.
I've used SimilarWeb as a quick way to get stats on my company's website, as well as my competitors' sites.
The easy to use interface Satisfying and quick colourful graphics and display Vast variety of features
Having to also use GA, search console and other metrics to put all together
Being able to view competitor search numbers, trends, and comparing and contrasting.
SimilarWeb is a great tool for analysing the online performance of your competitors and finding new opportunities for growth. It allows you to see the traffic sources, keywords, audience demographics, and engagement metrics of any website in your industry. You can also compare your own website with others and identify your strengths and weaknesses. - It has a large and reliable database of websites from different countries and categories. - It provides detailed and actionable insights that can help you improve your SEO, PPC, social media, and content strategies. - It has a user-friendly interface and a variety of reports and visualisations that make it easy to understand the data.
- It can be expensive if you want to access more advanced features and more websites. - It may not have data for some niche or low-traffic websites that are relevant to your business – this can be especially frustrating if you are a start up or a challenger brand. - It may not be very accurate for some metrics, such as bounce rate and time on site, as they are based on estimates and not actual measurements. - It may not reflect the latest changes in the online landscape, as it takes some time to update the data.
PPC Keyword gaps Cource of traffic growth for competitors
The platform makes it very easy to compare web performance with that of competitors, and also has a great Keyword functionality to build custom lists, allowing you to easily track performance of these keywords over time.
There does appear to be some data that seems off. When comparing our business's performance on the Similar Web platform, some traffic numbers appear to be way off what we know to be true internally. This does some cast some doubt over the accuracy of traffic data of competitors.
Similar Web helps to understand how we and our competitors are evolving over time, across various markets, and provides insights into the channels driving growth among each player.
