Castmagic’s pricing table sells “API access” on two of its three plans, and links its API documentation to api.castmagic.io — a hostname that does not resolve. Neither does help.castmagic.io, the help centre linked from the same page. We checked both against Cloudflare’s and Google’s public resolvers on 15 August 2026 and got NXDOMAIN from each, while www.castmagic.io resolved normally. That is a fixable infrastructure problem rather than a product one, and the product itself is well liked — 4.9 from 14 Findstack reviews. But it does mean the one ambiguity in the pricing table cannot be looked up, because the documentation is unreachable.

What Is Castmagic?

Castmagic takes long-form audio or video — a podcast episode, a webinar, a recorded interview — transcribes it, and then generates the written and visual assets you would otherwise spend a day producing: show notes, summaries, blog drafts, social posts, newsletters, timestamps, highlight clips and audiograms.

The feature set is broad and, unusually, mostly ungated. Every plan includes transcription in 60+ languages, timestamps, audio and video playback, editing and collaboration, an AI strategist plus Magic Chat, instant AI outputs, custom and community prompts, editable outputs, 2,000+ word generations, and — the part that matters most for cost — unlimited re-generations, unlimited media clipping and unlimited audiogram generation.

The integrations are also uniform across tiers: Zoom, Google Drive, Zapier, RSS, and import from YouTube, TikTok and Instagram. File handling is generous everywhere too — unlimited uploads, 10GB maximum file size, 50 concurrent uploads.

The company states 75,000+ creators served and 10 million+ minutes of content processed, with a Slack community of 1,700+ members.

On Findstack it holds a 4.9 average from 14 user reviews — a small sample, but the highest rating with a real user base in this series.

The comparison table has a row labelled API access, marked ✕ on Hobby and ✓ on Starter and Team. So the API is one of only three things — alongside an onboarding call and priority support — that distinguish the paid tiers at all.

The same pricing page links to the API documentation at api.castmagic.io/docs. That hostname does not exist.

We verified it three ways on 15 August 2026: the system resolver returned no address, curl returned 000 (connection never established), and both Cloudflare’s and Google’s public DNS-over-HTTPS resolvers returned Status 3 — NXDOMAIN. For contrast, the same query for www.castmagic.io returned a normal answer. help.castmagic.io, the help centre linked from the same page, is also NXDOMAIN.

Two things are worth saying about this in fairness. First, it is almost certainly a lapsed DNS record rather than a missing product — the API may work perfectly for signed-in customers, and a record like this can be restored in minutes, possibly before you read this. Second, it is not the sort of thing anyone does deliberately.

But it has a consequence that is not fixed by charity: if you are choosing Starter over Hobby because of API access, you currently cannot read what the API does before paying. And more broadly, the entire self-serve support channel — the help centre — is off the air, on a product sold to self-serve customers.

Check both hostnames yourself before subscribing on the strength of the API.

The transcription hours are a ceiling, not an allowance

The row is labelled “Transcribed hours (library total)” — 30, 100 and 400 hours.

The parenthetical is doing significant work, and there is a clean way to confirm what it means. Toggle the page between Monthly and Annually and the hours do not change. Hobby offers 30 hours whether you pay $29 for one month or $239 for twelve. If these were a per-period allowance, an annual plan would carry twelve times a monthly one. They are a ceiling on the size of your library, not a monthly quota.

That reframes the economics considerably. Dividing the annual price by the ceiling gives the cost of capacity:

Team is 48% cheaper per hour of capacity than Hobby, which is a normal and reasonable volume curve.

What the table does not settle is the mechanic underneath. Is the ceiling a live limit you can free up by deleting old episodes, or a cumulative balance you consume? The row immediately below — “Buy more hours anytime”, ticked on all three plans — leans towards a consumable balance, and the extra-hours rate is not published. The two readings matter a great deal: under the first, a weekly podcaster recycles capacity indefinitely; under the second, a weekly one-hour show fills Hobby’s 30 hours in about seven months and then starts buying.

We are not going to guess which it is, and this is precisely where a buyer would normally check the documentation — which brings us back to help.castmagic.io not resolving. Ask support before you commit to an annual plan, particularly on Hobby, where 30 hours is the tightest ceiling.

The annual discount is exactly what it claims

The page badges “Save 30% Annually”, and unlike most such claims this one survives checking:

Extra Team seats follow the same curve — $19/month or $159/year, a 30.3% saving. Three plans and a seat add-on, all landing within a point of the advertised figure. That is a rate card that has been calculated rather than rounded to a marketing number.

Better still, the annual total is printed on the card. Each plan shows “per month, billed annually · $239/yr”. That sounds trivial until you have read a few pricing pages that show a derived monthly figure and never once state the amount that will actually leave your account. Castmagic does. The one small blemish is that the monthly figures are rounded down — $239 ÷ 12 is $19.92, displayed as $19 — but with the annual total right beside it, nobody is misled.

Where the plans actually diverge

Strip out the volume limits and the feature differences between the three tiers are unusually thin:

• Hobby → Starter: API access, an onboarding call, more spaces and storage.
• Starter → Team: priority support, more spaces and storage, and the seat model.

Everything else is on every plan — all the AI generation, all the clipping and audiograms, all the integrations, all 60+ languages, live chat support. Notably, the uncapped items are the expensive ones: unlimited re-generations and unlimited clip and audiogram production are the plan’s real compute cost, and Castmagic does not meter them at any tier.

That is a genuinely creator-friendly structure. You are buying capacity, not features — which makes the unresolved question about what “library total” means the single most important thing to establish before you pay.

Team includes 5 seats and charges $159/year for each additional one, while the comparison table lists Team’s “Max team size” as Unlimited. Both are true and describe different things — unlimited seats are available, at $159 each — but a buyer skimming the table could reasonably read “Unlimited” as “included”.

Above Team, Business & Scale starts at $699/month — $8,388 a year against Team’s $1,669, a 5× jump — with custom volume, seats, storage, an SLA and dedicated support. Nothing about what triggers that step is published, so if you are approaching 400 hours it is worth asking early what the next rung costs.

• How many hours of content your library holds, which is the whole pricing axis.
• Whether “library total” means a live ceiling or a consumable balance — establish this first.
• The unpublished price of extra hours, since every plan can buy more.

Who Should Use Castmagic

Castmagic fits a podcaster or content team whose bottleneck is the work after recording. If you publish weekly and currently spend hours writing show notes, pulling quotes, cutting clips and drafting social posts, this is the specific job the product is built for, and the 4.9 rating suggests it does it well.

Hobby at $239/year fits an individual creator testing whether AI repurposing changes their workflow — with the caveat that 30 hours of library is the tightest constraint in the range, so understand what happens when you reach it.

Starter at $579 is the sensible working plan for a serious solo show or small team: 100 hours, API access, an onboarding call and 250GB of storage.

Team fits agencies and multi-show operations, where 400 hours and the $4.17-per-hour rate make the volume curve work.

It fits badly for anyone who needs the API today and wants to read the documentation first, and for anyone whose support model depends on a help centre — until both hostnames are back.

Two things should shape how you buy it.

The first is the library ceiling. The hours are not a monthly allowance — 30, 100 and 400 are identical whether you pay monthly or annually, which means they cap the size of your library rather than your throughput. Whether you can reclaim that space by deleting old episodes, or whether it is a balance you consume and then top up, changes the cost of a weekly show enormously. The pricing page does not say, and the help centre that would say is offline. Ask before you commit to a year.

The second is the DNS problem. api.castmagic.io and help.castmagic.io both return NXDOMAIN from independent public resolvers, while the main site resolves normally. This is very likely a lapsed record rather than a missing product, and it may well be repaired shortly. But API access is one of only three things separating Starter from Hobby, and right now you cannot read its documentation before paying for it. Both hostnames take ten seconds to check, and you should check them.

So: trial it on real episodes, and ask support one question in writing before you pay annually — does deleting content free up transcribed hours?
