Compare Cloudflare with other popular tools in the same category.
For anyone starting out in the world of web development, setting up and using a CDN can be a very daunting task. This is where Cloudflare comes in. With a streamlined setup process and straightforward controls, you will be set up and ready to go within minutes of signing up for an account. For 90% of users out there, the free version provides above and beyond what you will require from a CDN. With additional DDoS protection, a strong firewall and extremely fast caching, it takes your website from being about average to one of the best on the market. Some websites can experience load times that are anywhere between 2x and 10x faster.
Being limited to 3 page rules is one thing where Cloudflare feels like it could fall short on. 5 would've been a nice number. But if you can get a little technical with how URLs work in general, you can combine multiple rules into one, giving in essence more than 3 page rules.
Google searches have proven that if users don't see a webpage within 2 seconds of clicking a link, they never visit the website again. With Cloudflare, not only do users see my webpage within a second of clicking a link, they are also incentivized to look around and in doing so, find more content that they might be interested in. This has increased user retention for my website, while also helping sign up new users to the mailing list to keep an active pool of engaged users.
Out of the box it gives me great features and help for my various websites, and all for free.
I literally can't think of one thing I am unhappy about.
Easy to do HSTS, and SSL. Prevent DDOS attacks. Interesting Analytics, though not having more time options is frustrating, yet understandable on a free plan. I want to try the integration with the WP app but don't really need it yet.
Cloudflare CDN have servers all over the globe, which reaches my customers very quickly no matter where they’re located. A slow website can decrease engagement and retention, but with Cloudflare, I can be confident that my website will load quickly for everyone internationally. Cloudflare also saves my website’s data usage and have a nice panel showing the bandwidth I’m saving with Cloudflare. This lowers my infrastructure costs so I don’t have to pay more for data since Cloudflare already cached my images and files through their CDN.
Sometimes website functionality can break if they’re proxied through Cloudflare. Sometimes I have to turn off Cloudflare when I’m editing my website. Other than that little nuisance, I can’t really complain when they’re offering this service for free.
Cloudflare has made my site availability higher because they use anycast IPs to serve my website instead of just one centralized IP. My website mainly stream and deliver videos, so it’s important that it remains uncensored and fast. I believe that this will allow my websites to bypass country blocks and reach more visitors in the world.
It's easy to use You can take advantage of their massive CDN capabilities for free Many security settings DNS configuration Easy migration Great spam protection
You can't clear cache for 1 subdomain without a paid option
Offering a free CDN to all my customers
Free trial! it also is great for site speed
there were a few instances were the site went down due to proxies not being set up properly on our end, but there was no walk-through to help.
Site speed as increased 20%
I like the fact that Cloudflare caches our most bandwidth-heavy resources so that our customers experience fast loadtimes and a seamless user experience.
When performing a custom cache purge, we are limited to a specific URL, and cannot specify individual resources contained within that URL.
Our user interface relies upon a huge amount of video and audio content. Our customers experience fast loadtimes and a seamless user experience because of Cloudflare.
Cloudflare is the service I put in front of every website I manage, as the very first thing. The range of features Cloudflare provides on every tier, even the free one, is unmatched by any other CDN or security provider, Every new feature they add is an engineer's dream, and I find myself nodding in approval, even if that feature is not relevant to me or my company.
I have absolutely no use for their App marketplace,
With Cloudflare we always use these features: - DDoS protection - automatic security features - web application firewall rules - top notch DNS, incl. DNS security features - lowest cost domain names anywhere - full fledged CDN - automated CDN features such as Brotli compression and webp image transcoding - page rules to handle admin pages differently from visitor-facing website
Cloudflare is the market dominator in cloud computing, DNS, CDN, Security, and firewall. Said that Cloudflare provides unbeatably the best in class performance to price ration products. Cloudflare solved the major problem of mine which was DDoS, others include proxy traffic tunnel and real time traffic acceleration. it provides speed, security, and reliability at affordable prices which I like the most.
The only problem is that their services for free to entry-level category the system automatically over-rides the SSL present on the website and server and transfers it to its domains and SSL providers, which is kind of annoying. There is a very low limit of want you can do suing spectrum as the bandwidth is very low for the price in certain areas. RDP being the most used in the pandemic Covid-19 it 10GB monthly allowances and $1/Gb is kind of too much for just proxying the traffic because it uses data quickly.
The problems which we are solving using spectrum is that we can remotely access and assign servers with little to none configuration in the Cloudflare network and access it anywhere using their software. It is also the first choice that comes to mind because of their reliability.
Cloudflare is dead simple, and without much work on your part, will speed up and secure your website at the DNS level- before anything even hits your web server.
The only issues I've encountered are when Cloudflare's proxy makes it so that other services can't detect DNS records or caching related issues. However you can temporarily disable their proxy service at will, so it's never a big deal.
Cloudflare has solved not only performance issues for clients, but also mitigated DDoS attacks and other automated attacks on our sites. Additionally, it has image optimization in paid plans, and other options that keep your sites running on the latest technology to users who have it available. It's the easiest way to make a noticeable improvement to your site for a total time commitment of like 10 minutes.
1. Maintenance and deployment flexibility via API and Terraform 2. Reducing risk for handling transitions: far less time than rivals to disseminate cap transitions (seconds vs 30 minutes). 3. Managed rules are ready-to-use and require minimum (if applicable) configuration.
In a less developed organization with no logging aggregation tools to use Cloudflare logs, analyzing data to determine thresholds can be difficult, since built-in dashboards are insufficiently targetful for things like speed limitation or bot management. Cloudflare worked great with us, however, to hear such feedback and to enhance native dashboards / experience with time.
Cloudflare provides a excellent off-the-box implementation for more advanced organisations, as well as a very robust / extendable WAF implementation. The product evolves / improves continuously from both the Cloudflare Roadmap and the inclusion of the issues in our comments.
