The search tool. My best friend. I also like the forecasting feature as it's simple and easy to use.
when generating an estimate, having to select all service before they are reflected. wish there was a live chat bot for the times that i can't figure something out.

The speed at which I can input my hours for time tracking...The app is great as it allows me to input hours on my phone without having to got to my computer. What’s New with the Function Point App? Tap and Go Time Tracking. With your iPhone you can track your time to your tasks in real-time, by manual entry, or by starting a blank timesheet and filling in the details later. Our App Has You Covered. Any Time. Any Place. Even if you’re working without WiFi or data coverage, you'll never miss a billable moment. Create new timesheets or make changes to past timesheets, and they’ll be ready to sync when you have coverage.
At times the user interface seems overwhelming and a little complicated on desktop.
Tracking our employee's hours on projects. This has enabled us to plan ahead on projects and see the resources we are using. Easy to customize, it lets you quickly and accurately keep track of what matters most to your company. Need to check in on that upcoming task? Notes functionality makes it easy. Need a bird's eye view of tasks and workflow? Dynamic Gantt charts have you covered. Easy to customize, it lets you quickly and accurately keep track of what matters most to your company. Need to check in on that upcoming task? Notes functionality makes it easy. Need a bird's eye view of tasks and workflow? Dynamic Gantt charts have you covered. It’s all connected and it’s all right here.
The ease of tracking timelines and sub tasks as well as reporting at the end of a project completion. I also like that you can see all financials at a glance
make it simpler. A lot of function are hard to find within the program. Mobile is lacking a bit of functionality
Project management
My favorite feature of FunctionPoint would have to be the resource allocation report. Being able to see what is on the creative team's plate at a glance and adjust on the fly is an incredibly powerful tool that has allowed us to be able to take on a higher volume of work with the same amount of staff. It has also allowed our internal traffic to be done by more than one person without stepping on each other's toes because we can see in real time who is assigned to what. I also really like the reports where we can pull hours on clients and see how it breaks down and the calendar filters where we can see what is on the schedule overall or by client. We've been using FunctionPoint for over a year and there have been multiple updates to improve and add features to the product. I have participated in feedback groups several times and appreciate being part of the process to improve FP!
I dislike some of the system limitations. For example, tasks can be scheduled on days where there is no time available, you cannot set up dependent tasks (a task that is automatically assigned upon the completion of another task), you cannot have more than one AE (or internal contact) added to a company. The good news is, I know several of these features are in development, but I don't know when they will be deployed. I also do not like how support tickets need to be started via a form. Every time I call the support line I have to leave a message and be called back later. If I have a minor issue, I don't mind waiting, but if there is an issue that is preventing my team from working, I want an option where I can contact someone immediately to resolve the issue.
FunctionPoint combines together items that we previously used in separate tools. Integrating time tracking, project management and client management into a single tool has eliminated redundant work and improved our internal processes. With FunctionPoint we are able to see what work we have in progress and what we have done in the past for clients in a way that we were not able to before.
The multiple quick ways to search data and find your way in the software is a huge help. This software is very robust and helps everyone see whats going on.
The project scheduling is a bit clunky and the collaboration tools are not as intuitive as desired. I also find the batch invoice process to be a bit buggy from time to time. I believe this has to do with the invoice numbering.
This software solves the problem of connecting my estimating and project planning work with my final invoices. The benefit of having a strong tool that allows for customization is key to my business.
FP puts every data point of your business at your fingertips.
Not having saved reports for quick access to repeat searches for your data.
We are definitely more on top of watching our estimates and comparing our performance on the job tasks to the estimated totals.
User-friendly They appear to be really trying to improve and help customers
Timesheet functions are a bit janky and time-consuming
Helping us keep our projects organized both with internal time spent and external expenses
Ease of use - very intuitive. Time tracking is very good for the production team.
Estimating. I would like to see a better process for estimating jobs. Estimates touch a few people and there is no easy way to pass an estimate is progress to key people. Good software for a single estimator, not good for our model. Project level reporting is non-existent with regards to hours and financials. Would like to see this. Its only on the job level. Would like to see this on the project level.
Margins have increased and we have closed the gap between estimating estimating vs actuals. Accountability and transparency has also increased.
I like the amount of control you have over the task details. A lot of other Project Management tools just have the task as an editable line item within the job, without the option to add more detail or for it to live outside of a job. With Function Point, the task exists as it's own separate item. You can edit the details, change the job number, change resources and search by task number. I also prefer the Resource Allocation chart over the other PM tools' resource views. Function Point is very easy to navigate and to find what you're looking for. I prefer the layout and basic features over other Project Management tools that I've looked into.
The biggest frustration is that the resource doesn't have the option to arrange or view tasks by start date, only by due date. They need to click through to the task details to see the start date. This does cause complications on our end when working on tasks that span more than day. I haven't seen any other Project Management tool that includes this feature. You don't have the option to front-load, back-load or evenly disperse time.
Function Point allows us to have a very accurate view of what each resource is working on and when. One of my main concerns as a Studio Manager is that people are not overbooked or overwhelmed with workload. Function Point's resource view makes this much easier to assign work. When shopping around for Project Management tools, I was paying attention to the Resource view because I relied on it so heavily. Function Point's resource view was the best, by far. We're able to keep track of each job's status and the resources involved. The way jobs and tasks are built as separate items makes searching previous tasks and jobs very easy. We can look back on previous jobs/specific and see how much time was required, whether more rounds were needed and use this information to make decisions regarding new jobs.
Function Point has a lot of features that cover all departments within an agency; sales, account, creative, project management and admin. It is 1 tool that everyone can use to manage your project and gives each team the information they need. Once you get the hang of it, it is easy to use and customize. They had a great training/onboarding process!
It is not very visual...the creative team needs more gantt charts and visual ways of showing information. To them Function Point speaks in a language they are not as comfortable in.
Increase visibility on project changes, better able to track job profitability, and streamline with administrative needs.
Easy to use and manage. Quite flexible. Limited technical or connection issues.
We have had some issues with the integration with quickbooks.
Comprehensive system for estimating, time tracking, expense tracking and invoicing. We have less dependency on our bookkeeper. Greater transparency into our project cost. Can share this transparency with our customers. Better estimates.
We like the user interface and how easily we can track our time to different projects.
When you set up a job/task that has predecessors it let parts further down the list start before the tasks before it are complete.
The program keeps up more on task as well as our time management and accountability have gone up. Also we can tell when anyone's plate is too full.
Having financial data integrate easily with QuickBooks
Inability to modify template designs easily
SOLVING - Need to simplify project management and billing BENEFITS - Streamlined single-portal tool for client projects and billing
Ease of use, ability to access from anywhere
UI sometimes isn't ideal, have to click through more screens sometimes to find the info that i need.
Organization and project managment
The integration with Quickbooks and the invoicing capabilities. It is a lot easier than what we used to use
How I am unable to pull a time sheet report that i can use with out any fuss.
We have solved our internal time tracking system and the staff finds this much easier, we also realize that we have been able to invoice for more of our time than we had before using function point.
Ease of job opening and estimating of jobs.
Many more features available than I have had the time to learn.
Timekeeping issues have been virtually eliminated. Project estimating is being done on a consistent basis, and real time is being accurately tracked against estimated time.
The training was excellent! The FP team was patient and able to "adapt" to our quirky requirements.
That it isn't very customizable. No API is a real challenge. We have data that we are unable to retrieve for our purposes. We are willing to pay for customization - but FP doesn't offer customization. Very disappointing.
Allowed us to centralize our systems. Nice that we are now all working off the same set of information. (We were working in a maze of excel spreadsheets before.)
Customized for marketing organizations/projects All items are in one place Web-based
Would like more custom reports Think order of navigation isn't intuitive/project order There doesn't seem to be a ton of upgrades over the years
Time tracking Invoices Project Briefs One location for project detail Manage projects to budget by real time costs
I like the design. It is well laid out and functional.
I feel that it is a bit difficult to change formatting of forms or reports. Not easy to find the location where you can make changes.
Function point helps to streamline and keep track of jobs. It is where we create our estimates and follow the job to completion and invoicing.
Web based application means I can access it anywhere. Simple user interface.
Site is not mobile responsive. Some of the fields are not customizable (ie. Lead Consultant, Lead Creative).
Effectively managing our business development, timesheet and billing.
I like that Function Point serves as a one stop shop for our entire agency. We are able to maximize our productivity and streamline the workflow between different departments. It also is a vital hub for all of our client and project information.
Initially I wasn't wowed by the scheduling feature and found it more time consuming to try to schedule projects that are ever changing due to clients needs and revisions. However, with the new gant chart we are beginning to utilize the feature more
appropriately tracking time for projects and being more aware of budgets and accurately estimating each job.
It's very comprehensive It integrates most aspects of day to day management Project costing is much more transparent Easier to track profit margins
The interface feels dated It can seem unnecessarily complicated at times, like the interface could be streamlined or simplified We still use quickbooks, and unless there's a feature we missed we end up still duplicating the labour with entering new invoices and new clients into quickbooks. I'm not sure if there's some api or way to simplify this
Turn key project planning as a lot of our projects are similar in structure Tracking margins and keeping freelancer costs in check Easy and accurate estimating One other issue would be we are probably using 1/10th of the actual power of the software. Maybe the occasional reminder for a refresher course or something would be a good idea
Once learned, it's easy to enter and find information. We use most features for day-to-day operations, but don't use the Gantt Charting or reports section.
I find the new calendar layout difficult to read as quickly as the last iteration; I mostly use the 'Bulk Edit' to make things faster to comprehend. In the new calendar, when a field is clicked. it 'moves' farther away from the original mouse click. While this seems like a small thing, I could consider that a big design flaw when considering efficiency and general usage.
Originally, we had a team of 10, but are now down to 4. For our larger team, we needed to be able to assign jobs and tasks in an effective manner. The software did help us do that, and that's why we didn't go to something simpler when our team got smaller. Once set up and the team was used to the software, we found it helped us with managing our projects, usually about 50 at any given time.
I think Function Point makes logistical sense and mimics the way that an agency works, allowing for it's incorporation to feel natural and not forced.
I still find scheduling large projects difficult, despite the improvements that have recently been made. Projects with tasks of over 25 tasks or so are cumbersome to move around and re-arrange. I am still looking for a recurring task option, so I don't have to schedule digital campaign optimization for a year long program as 52 separate tasks!
There is no way we would able to keep everyone on task without Function Point. It's the central hub around which everything happens, and provides us with insights into the areas where we could improve (i.e. where we have consistently gone over budget on projects).
It's very easy to use, and they have tutorials for you watch. If you have a question or suggestion, someone always responds in a timely manner.
It still isn't compatible with Quickbooks for Mac. I would like to see this updated to ease the burden of double data entry and bookkeeping since I can't export it to my Quickbooks on a Mac.
It has helped us with tracking our time with each job we work on. I can go back to an employee and show them where they went over estimate. I can see exactly what they did on every job when reviewing timesheets.
The functionality of every employee in the company using the same slow-loading, multi-tab spreadsheet at the same time. The UI is dated, the experience of posting, commenting, and creating tasks or jobs is excruciatingly slow.
I anticipate onboarding new users will be challenging. Everything takes at least ten clicks or keystrokes and 30 seconds of load time to view one piece of information or send a task to the next person. The mobile app is also unhelpful as it is only a time-keeping tool and allows users to view jobs but not comment or interact otherwise. I could see this being useful for a company that makes sales, where there is a need to record interactions, but not much else.
Each change has been an improvement with the way technology has been evolving. Overall all the staff at Function Point are friendly and intelligent and have excellent customer service skills.
I like the time sheets and how you are able to easily change time from past dates
I don't like that you are unable to download all files at one time
Better billing for our accounting department.
Function Point is a bit more user friendly than many of the project management and time tracking tools that I've used in the past. The ability to create calendars and charts from a collection of projects is great. It's also nice to be able to track progress on a specific task or job in real time and know how close to completion it is. There's also some nice customizations available on the main dashboard on a per user basis.
Some parts of the platform are a tad clunky. Sharing files isn't ideal beyond small images or documents. Collaboration within the tool also takes some getting used to (learning the difference between Notes, Comments, Briefs, Pinning to Dashboards, etc). It also does not integrate with our media system, which is a problem specific to us, but a frustration nonetheless.
We're an internal agency and so we use Function Point to facilitate communication and project completion for our company from a marketing standpoint. It allows our Account Managers to enter project briefs so that our resource teams can receive the direction and begin working on the project. It also enables us to track time against each of those projects so that we can bill out work appropriately as well as organize the workloads of our team members.
We use Function Point for our ad agency and it is very robust software that encompasses many critical functions that we need to operate efficiently. Our most used feature is the estimate/invoicing functionality.
It was really difficult to manipulate the software to do exactly what you needed. The time tracking, and task tracking functionality is not very good.
We are time tracking more efficiently and making sure that all of our job requests are in the system so that they can be assigned to our designers and delegated properly.
How easy logging time is, it is a very smooth experience.
How complicated accessing jobs and estimates can be
Logging time, the easier logging time is the more likely people are to do it.
