Liquid Web Expert Review

Liquid Web’s VPS table lists a 4 GB / 2 vCPU server at $8.50 a month and a 2 GB / 1 vCPU server at $11. Further down, 16 GB costs $45 while 12 GB costs $67. Nothing is wrong with the hardware ladder — the “Starting at” column mixes promoted and unpromoted rows, showing half price where a 50%-for-two-months offer applies and full price where it does not. The hourly column beside it rises cleanly from $0.007 to $0.245, and that is the honest ladder.

  • What it is: Managed hosting — cloud VPS, dedicated servers and fully managed options with 24/7 support.
  • Best for: Buyers who read the hourly column, then double the promoted monthly figures.
  • Pricing: Compute VPS from $5 to $179 a month at true rates. Verified July 2026.
  • The honest catch: Promotions apply to new accounts only, not upgrades.

What Is Liquid Web?

Liquid Web is a managed hosting and cloud provider with a long-standing reputation for support, offering self-managed or fully managed cloud VPS, dedicated servers and WordPress hosting. Every VPS includes root access, a dedicated IP, DDoS protection, unmetered inbound traffic, a 99.99% uptime guarantee and 24/7/365 expert support, with cPanel and Plesk available. It holds a 4.5-star average across 100 Findstack reviews.

Liquid Web’s VPS hosting page showing plan cards from $5 a month, with a 50% off two months badge on selected configurations.

Servers come in three optimisation families — Compute, Memory and CPU — each priced monthly and hourly.

How Liquid Web Works

  • Three optimisation families — Compute, Memory, CPU.
  • Monthly and hourly rates are both published.
  • Some rows carry 50% off for two months.
  • The discount is not applied uniformly.
  • Self-managed or fully managed on every plan.
  • Promotions exclude existing customers.

Liquid Web Pricing

Captured from Liquid Web’s VPS hosting page in July 2026 in US dollars. The Compute-optimised family, in ascending specification:

vCPU RAM Storage Bandwidth “Starting at” Hourly Promo? True monthly
1 1 GB 30 GB 1 TB $5 $0.007 — $5
1 2 GB 60 GB 2 TB $11 $0.015 — $11
2 4 GB 80 GB 3 TB $8.50 $0.023 50% / 2 mos $17
2 6 GB 120 GB 4 TB $22 $0.030 — $22
4 8 GB 240 GB 5 TB $22.50 $0.062 50% / 2 mos $45
4 12 GB 320 GB 6 TB $67 $0.092 — $67
6 16 GB 440 GB 7 TB $45 $0.123 50% / 2 mos $90
6 24 GB 540 GB 8 TB $61.50 $0.168 50% / 2 mos $123
8 32 GB 640 GB 10 TB $89.50 $0.245 50% / 2 mos $179

Bar chart of Liquid Web’s listed monthly prices in specification order, showing $5, $11, then $8.50 for a larger server, then $22, $22.50, $67 and $45.

What actually decides your cost:

  • The price column is not a price ladder. Read it top to bottom and the numbers go $5, $11, $8.50, $22, $22.50, $67, $45 — twice a bigger server appears cheaper than a smaller one. The cause is straightforward: five of the nine Compute rows carry a “50% for 2 mos” badge and four do not, so the column mixes half prices with full ones. It is not an error, but it makes the table unusable for comparison at a glance.
  • The hourly column tells you the truth, and lets you recover it. Hourly rates rise monotonically from $0.007 to $0.245, and multiplying by roughly 730 hours reproduces the undiscounted monthly figure exactly: the 4 GB row’s $0.023 gives $16.79 ≈ $17, of which the listed $8.50 is precisely half. The same holds on every promoted row — $45, $90, $123 and $179 respectively. If you want the real monthly price, take the hourly rate and multiply by 730.
  • The promotion lasts two months, not two years. After it, the 4 GB box costs $17, the 8 GB box $45 and the 16 GB box $90. On a twelve-month view the 16 GB server costs $45 × 2 + $90 × 10 = $990, an effective $82.50 a month — not the $45 on the card.
  • Promotions are for new accounts only. The page states: “Promotions are valid for new accounts only and do not apply to upgrades of existing servers.” So an existing customer scaling up pays the full rate, and the discounted figures are not available to them at all.
  • Support level is a genuine choice rather than a tier. Every configuration is available self-managed or fully managed, so you are not forced up the hardware ladder to get help. With 24/7/365 support and a 99.99% uptime guarantee on all plans, that flexibility is the strongest part of the offer.
  • Hourly billing is unusual at this end of the market. Publishing an hourly rate alongside the monthly one means short-lived workloads are genuinely affordable — and, as above, it is the most reliable way to read the pricing.

Who Should Use Liquid Web

  • Businesses wanting managed hosting with real support. The clearest case — 24/7/365 and a 99.99% uptime guarantee.
  • Teams that want to choose their management level. Self-managed or fully managed on every configuration.
  • Short-lived or bursty workloads. Hourly billing is published on every row.
  • Buyers who model total cost. The hourly column makes the true monthly rate recoverable.

It fits poorly for anyone comparing on the listed monthly figures, which are not like-for-like; for existing customers hoping to use the promotion on an upgrade, which is excluded; and for budget shared hosting, where this is several times the price.

Honest Pros and Cons

Strengths

  • Hourly rates published on every configuration.
  • Self-managed or fully managed on all plans.
  • 24/7/365 support and a 99.99% uptime guarantee.
  • Root access, dedicated IP and DDoS protection included.
  • Unmetered inbound traffic.
  • Three optimisation families for different workloads.

Limitations

  • The monthly column mixes promoted and full prices.
  • A 4 GB server lists below a 2 GB one.
  • The discount lasts two months.
  • Promotions exclude existing customers.
  • A 16 GB server averages $82.50 over its first year, not $45.
  • One table row has a formatting error — “$78.50mo”.

Liquid Web Alternatives and How It Compares

  • ScalaHosting competes on managed VPS with a refund-anytime policy.
  • Kinsta and WP Engine are the managed WordPress specialists.
  • SiteGround sits below on price, more shared than VPS.
  • Rackspace targets the enterprise managed-cloud end.

For a broader survey, browse our managed hosting directory.

The Verdict

Liquid Web’s product is straightforward and well regarded: cloud VPS across three optimisation families, available self-managed or fully managed, with root access, a dedicated IP, DDoS protection, unmetered inbound traffic, 24/7/365 support and a 99.99% uptime guarantee on every configuration. Being able to pick your management level independently of your hardware is the genuinely useful part — you are not forced onto a bigger server to get help.

The pricing table, however, needs decoding before it can be used. Read the “Starting at” column in specification order and the figures go $5, $11, $8.50, $22, $22.50, $67, $45 — a 4 GB server listed below a 2 GB one, and a 16 GB server listed below a 12 GB one. The explanation is that five of the nine Compute rows carry a “50% for 2 mos” badge and four do not, so half prices sit next to full prices in the same column. Nothing is being concealed, but the column cannot be scanned for value.

Fortunately the fix is on the same page. The hourly rates rise cleanly from $0.007 to $0.245, and multiplying by 730 hours reproduces the undiscounted monthly price exactly — the 4 GB row is really $17, the 8 GB $45, the 16 GB $90, the 32 GB $179. Use that column to compare, then remember the discount runs for two months only: a 16 GB server costs $45 twice and $90 ten times in its first year, an effective $82.50 a month rather than the $45 advertised. And if you are already a customer, the promotion is not available to you at all — the page states that promotions “are valid for new accounts only and do not apply to upgrades of existing servers.”

FAQ

How much does Liquid Web VPS hosting cost?

In US dollars captured July 2026, the Compute-optimised family runs from $5 a month for 1 vCPU and 1 GB RAM to $179 for 8 vCPU and 32 GB at undiscounted rates. Several configurations display half price under a “50% for 2 mos” promotion — the 4 GB box shows $8.50 against a true $17, and the 16 GB box $45 against a true $90.

Why does a bigger Liquid Web server cost less than a smaller one?

Because the promotion is applied to some rows and not others. Five of the nine Compute configurations carry a “50% for 2 mos” badge; four do not. That puts half prices and full prices in the same column, so a 4 GB server shows $8.50 while a 2 GB server shows $11. The hourly column, which rises consistently, reflects the real ladder.

How can I work out Liquid Web’s real monthly price?

Multiply the hourly rate by about 730 hours. The 4 GB row’s $0.023 an hour gives roughly $17 — exactly twice the listed $8.50 — and the same method reproduces $45, $90, $123 and $179 for the 8, 16, 24 and 32 GB configurations. The hourly column is unaffected by the two-month promotion.

How long does Liquid Web’s discount last?

Two months. After that the promoted configurations revert to full price, so a 16 GB server costs $45 for two months and $90 for the following ten — an effective $82.50 a month across the first year. Liquid Web also notes that promotions “are valid for new accounts only and do not apply to upgrades of existing servers.”

Does Liquid Web include managed support?

Every configuration is offered as self or fully managed, so the level of support is a separate choice from the hardware. All plans include 24/7/365 expert support and a 99.99% uptime guarantee, along with root access, a dedicated IP address, DDoS protection and unmetered inbound traffic.

"Almost put us out of business"
What do you like best about Liquid Web?

Support was easy to get a hold of and their administrative interface is clean and easy to use.

What do you dislike about Liquid Web?

Their technicians are negligent when it comes to managing the servers. They almost put us out of business multiple times. A few years ago when we were first starting off, we had a few managed servers, but didn't qualify for their enterprise support. One of our web servers suddenly went down and was un-reachable. Dealing with support for nearly an hour, they couldn't figure out what the issue was. After getting aggravated, I said "Can you please just go to the rack and check to make sure the server is physically there." About 15 minutes later they checked the rack and found out that the Ethernet cable had been disconnected from the NIC! Apparently somebody had been in there dismounting a server and accidentally unplugged the cable. Rather than admitting fault, support pinned the issue on us said said that we need to purchase ties to lock down the cables from coming out. That was just one out of the many issues we've had to deal with.

What problems is Liquid Web solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are only using their service for a small shared server that is for internal use and has no live production data. It is a managed WHM/cPanel server which is extremely easy to work with. We recently upgraded the ram and HDD with the click of a button.

"Unacceptably Poor Customer Support and Ethically Troubling Practices. This Company Lost Their Way."
What do you like best about Liquid Web?

Their servers are not the fastest, their prices are higher than many of their competitors (they use introductory pricing), but I've stayed with them for 4+ years because they used to have excellent customer service. However, their customer service has deteriorated to the point I now consider Liquid Web one of the worst Web vendors,if not the worst, I've ever worked with. And that's from a career in the Fortune 500 with responsibility for well known brand websites and having my own sites too. I find that they've recently engaged in less than honest and ethical pricing practices with me. I can't find any positives to Liquid Web anymore. I would strongly recommend finding a different hosting company.

What do you dislike about Liquid Web?

I've used Liquid Web for several years and customer Service Has went from excellent to unacceptably poor and they add on services and refuse to take off charges. Their support team took 4 weeks to migrate my existing sites on their VPS to a new upgraded VPS account. They asked the same questions over and over and it would take them days to ask the same question again. I can't help but wonder if they only engage in these practices to charge customers more money. I've been responsible for websites at large companies as well as my own websites for more than two decades, and Liquid Web stands out as one of the worst vendors, from customer support to questionable charges that I've ever experienced. At the beginning of last month, I ordered a new VPS to move my several websites hosting with Liquid Web on another VPS. It should have been simple and completed in no more than 72 hours. Instead, it took them one month, so I had to pay their high prices for two servers during that period, and then they added different charges that I'm presently disputing and their accounting team person is not friendly, just an authoritarian barking at me that they're going to be charging me no matter what. During the migration period, the migration team has been confused and not paid attention to my responses and what should have taken hours has turned into weeks and additional charges. The deterioration of the quality of customer support and the way customers are treated at Liquid Web is so dramatic, I can only guess that the company has experienced major management changes because the customer focus isn't there anymore, the ethics aren't there -- they're engaging in some very shady billing practices. The customer experience at Liquid Web simply doesn't seem remotely similar to what it was years ago and from what I'm reading in other reviews, my experiences are not rare. I strongly advise that people avoid Liquid Web. Their servers aren't very fast. Their customer support and customer experience is very poor. The engage in problematic practices, including adding on charges for services that I never ordered and then refuse to cancel those charges or even listen to the customer. A few years ago, I was recommending Liquid Web, but the company has dramatically changed for the worse and I can only recommend others avoid this company.

What problems is Liquid Web solving and how is that benefiting you?

I use Liquid Web for hosting websites (VPS) and they've been supposed to be migrated websites to an upgraded VPS, but for two weeks they've done nothing and ask the same questions I've already answered over and over as they shuffle me from employee to employee and refuse to escalate my migration request. UPDATED: It's taken 4 weeks to migrate 5 websites from my prior VPS to my new VPS, and in the process, I stopped updates to all of the sites and found that one of them was hacked.

"Stay away from Liquid Web hosting"
What do you like best about Liquid Web?

It would be great hosting if it worked properly. I like the managed Wordpress dashboard where you can see all your sites and the daily backups, But the sites randomly crash very often, and they have no fix.

What do you dislike about Liquid Web?

Stay away from Liquid Web hosting. I own an agency and decided to use their managed wordpress hosting. Their hosting environment has a known bug which they know about that randomly causes the servers to crash. You would think since they know about it they would monitor the sites and automatically fix the sites when they go down, but that is not the case. If the sites go down, you have to call them to tell them to get it fixed. They refuse to do anything on their end to remedy the issue. They told me to contact the creators of php to get their server environment bug fixed. Now they just want me to change hosting plans acting like moving and testing 50 sites will be no big deal. Absolutely terrible customer service and experience. Please stay away from this company and save yourself the trouble. Especially if you are an agency with multiple sites to host.

What problems is Liquid Web solving and how is that benefiting you?

I am leaving liquid web hosting. I was using their managed WordPress hosting to host 50 wordpress websites. I have not realized any benefits, only regrets for choosing Liquid Web hosting.

"Poor Customer Experience. I miss Rackspace's ownership."
What do you like best about Liquid Web?

There haven't been any that I've experienced. Their interface has been confusing from the beginning. Perhaps the only helpful thing is that, you get to talk to a customer service person after < 15 minutes of hold time - so it's not the fastest but not the slowest.

What do you dislike about Liquid Web?

Confusing user interface. It took them a long time to build / consolidate what was a usable interface when they inherited the business from Rackspace. They deleted all of my content despite being a customer for many years (almost 10 years), because I accidentally missed one month's payment (I had it on auto-pay and my card stopped working). Do not use them if you care about your website & digital presence.

What problems is Liquid Web solving and how is that benefiting you?

Hosting websites for me and my clients. However, they have failed to do this by deleting my properties without notifying me that I'd lose 10 years of data.

"After 15 years as a customers this company is now garbage"
What do you like best about Liquid Web?

I used to use and recommend clients to Liquidweb all the time. They had fantastic, local support techs that really knew what they were doing.

What do you dislike about Liquid Web?

Over time they have turned into a soul-less company that has tightened their belt too many times and now relies on unethical billing practices to claw money from the few customers they have left. Their cancellation policies remind of Columbia House. Absolutely terrible.

What problems is Liquid Web solving and how is that benefiting you?

They provide managed webhosting.

"Completely and Utterly Disappointing"
What do you like best about Liquid Web?

The cloud parent servers is what initially had me sign up. I spoke with a sales manager and they went through all of the different details, technically too, which surprised me. I was initially impressed with service.

What do you dislike about Liquid Web?

The entire support staff experience is one of the worst I have ever encountered. Multiple 'engineers' going in and making changes to my servers without my authorization. Repeatedly requesting escalation to management and the engineers refusing to do so. Resolutions were explained as 'for some reason'.

What problems is Liquid Web solving and how is that benefiting you?

I own a website hosting company for complex business sites. I realized this was one of the worst business decisions I've made.

"FRAUDULENT CHARGES"
What do you like best about Liquid Web?

nothing. ignore my requests to talk to billing, refuse to cancel my account after numerous attempts.

What do you dislike about Liquid Web?

I never agreed to sign up with liquid web. Rackspace sold my account. Since March 2018 you disabled all my websites and yet you CONTINUE to charge me DESPITE NUMEROUS cancellations by me. I had to cancel my AMEX card, and block recurring charges. Now you charged me AGAIN today. You OWE ME 9 months at $220. $1800.00. I will now post publicly wherever I can. Several months ago I was asked on the support chat to verify that I wanted to stop my account, verified it, and I was asked if I had all the content transferred, confirmed yes. And still you are charging me. I will post this review everywhere I can, since you are operating fraudulently. When you refund me, I will stop posting publicly.

What problems is Liquid Web solving and how is that benefiting you?
