The user interface isn't too daunting and is really intuitive, almost 'friendly', which gives our staff the confidence to focus on what they need to do rather than being put off by trying to work out 'how' to do what they need. It doesn't tie all staff into having to use it. As a system it can sit parallel to other activity that takes place on our files, so our staff have the nice interface, and our IT teams can still undertake maintenance of the files/servers. We haven't done much with the API, but are looking forward to seeing what we can do with that to help integrate with other workflows/systems.
Out IT team would prefer a Linux version to make it easier for them to maintain. It can sometimes run a bit slow, but that is due to the way we have it setup rather than the software itself, so it's worth spending the time to get the set up right from the start as this can be a burden in hindsight.
It has meant we have a means to assess and organise a huge number of legacy assets, and move our workflows forward to much greater efficiency. This in turn also means we can reach a point were a much wider range of staff can discover and access assets themselves rather than relying on a small team to do it on their behalf.
Extensis portfolio has helped me in arranging all my jumbled bits of file in most of the popular formats in an organised way. It also has perfect syn and find features making things even more effortless
At times while handling proierity formats ,customs formats or the lesser known ones the software would abruptly fail to function. It also doesn't process the hidden files making it more of an hit or go.
Perfect for keeping the files organized and synced across different profiles.
Portfolio is a complete package for any company needing a reliable Asset Management tool, every major update just makes it better and more through without complexity.
I don't really have any dislikes anymore - Extensis keeps ahead of the game for me. It seems every time I find something I don't like its fixed in the next major upgrade. I no longer keep a wishlist.
Giving staff members access to company purchased royalty free assets solved our problem with people just pulling items from the internet that are not licensed. We no longer have to be concerned about the legal issues. We are currently building an in-house corporate video library that will be a huge time saver for the company.
We like its flexibility in configuration options.
It could have more options on the security side of things.
We had a large unwieldy repository of picture and video assets that was difficult to search. We're now able to give users an easy to use interface with which to add and search for these assets.
I like the simple layout of the application. Users can navigate easily to create galleries and find their digital assets.
When galleries are published, there isn't any "select all" button to select all the images to download. Users have to individually select each image, which may be time consuming. Also, the "Download All" button is not easily visible. Users have to click the "selected items" button to download the images.
In our organizations, digital media is distributed often to our stakeholders. Extensis Portfolio makes it easy to store and organize our media files and publish.
Easy for users to use. Our Designers not intimated with loading or searching functions which helps the in house helpdesk.
On occasion we still fight the browser differences fight where we know all is functioning properly but users has an outdated or incompatibility issue with the browser they are using.
We can now reach back nearly 10 years to check our archives for the components of products we have designed. Reusing these ASSETS when appropriate can potentially save us a ton of money. Being a fashion oriented business we are constantly redesigning.
I've used this program in the past, and they've recently done a great job at updating this platform. Ability to create media engines and client folders for clients, separating assets.
Which there was more white branding and client solutions capable.
I use this for branding clients. I keep assets separate and am able to export size of files depending on determined use. I've discovered I don't need to create all the assets for clients,
Easy navigation and user experience, batch processing and tagging capabilities and NetPublish is a next level. Majority of requests that I receive on a daily basis involve the sending of images and/or logos and NetPublish has made that part of my job even easier.
Besides being able to set up NetPublish sites that can expire in a specific timeframe without having to go into the main Admin pages, I really don't have any other issues with the product.
Archiving and tagging a large database of images and logos that our association owns. Creating a more functional and searchable group of assets that we can share to our stakeholders as well as for use internally. NetPublish has been a game changer in making all expectations come a reality and sharing our assets with ease.
As the IT support specialist at my company, I appreciate the ease of installation on both the server and client ends. The priority support has been invaluable and saved us in numerous binds. Portfolio interface and functionality has been improving with each and every release.
Having to update database file versions now and then when new releases come out.
Centralized location for all of our assets. This has allowed users from numerous sites across the country to access those assets in one location instead of having to deal with version and location conflicts.
I like the multiple search options that are available, the tagging feature. Also, being able to create smart galleries. When adding new images into the server they sync quickly if necessary. I love the feature that allows to download and even batch download. Amazing import/export… super easy to use.
There is definitely more for me to learn on this program because I've been using it for less then a year but so far I haven't encountered very many things that I dislike. The only thing slightly negative thing I can say is that it's very easy to drag things and move files around which can sometimes be a problem for what we use it for.
Extensis portfolio helps our company view photography and packaging assets on quite a large scale. It has very quick syncing time which is beneficial for what it is used for. It is a great centralized program that eliminated a lot of problems we were before having before with accessibility to images and assets.
The flexibility of Extensis Portfolio is really what works well for us. We can use existing workflows and pipelines that we have, existing servers and tools, and keep moving forward.
The web-based interface is nice, and has worked well for us, though there are times where we miss the client installs and the desktop applications that used to be available. It is a tradeoff, the web interface provides more flexibility and accessibility to more people, but the performance is sometimes diminished.
We use Portfolio to manage all aspects of our digital asset management strategy, and have seen large efficiencies gained through the use of the tool. It helps to streamline and simplify many of our logistics.
There are multiple things that I like, but Portfolio continues folder Autosync is one of the features we rely more in our environment. The other big plus for us is the graphic and visual interface of Portfolio.
Portfolio NetPublish is one of those tools that never quite worked for our environment. It doesn't necessarily mean the functionality is not there, it just never worked for our workflow.
We have a huge amount of files generated and maintain by our graphics department. Artists are not the best at managing files so Portfolio help us keep our digital assets organized and managed.
i like the online publishing option, it saves me many hours of searching and sending assets.
user manual is huge and sometimes not very intuitive
I'm using the online publishing capabilities to allow employees from around the globe to have immediate access to our main product and marketing imagery.
The ability to set up and share catalogs over the Internet rather than using closed networks.
Not really much of anything. The software pretty well works as it should.
We have a small group of imaging professionals including graphic artists, photographers and videographers distributed across the country that provide our services to a large gov't agency. We are all able to upload imagery as it's created to allow each of us the ability to use that imagery in our own projects.
As a graphic designer, Extensis is a good portfolio for me. I can publish my portfolio online. I also like basic and customoziable interface.
Not so much things I don't dislike. Maybe it can be more tools. And it can slow at old devices. In generel Extensis is all right.
I organize my images and keep them together.
The user interface and multimedia abilities . it is great for r&d and organisation,
too much of infomation. the images sometimes are too flashy and standing out
Marketing and research. digital assets can be stored
Modular, cost effective pricing for enterprise implementation
Loss of features between upgrades, no reporting available on usage metrics
Build sophisticated Image library, managing 1.65 Million assets
The keywording options are very well implemented.
The editing and uploading side is flash based so our users have trouble accessing it at times and weird glitches.
It helps us collect photos from a volunteer ministry at the church into one useable place.
Extensis has done a lot of work to this product over the years. We started using the product over 15 years ago. Excellent at want it does. Worked really well at keeping the filesystem and the database in sync. It's ability to "archive" assets when removed from the file system was of great help to us.
It's ability to customize sites were a bit of a chore. If you wanted something that strayed from the templates you need you use their APIs. The API was pretty well documented. But it was not something the casual user could do.
This product worked real well for us (a small internal creative group). It kept track of our assets was easy to use from an end user perspective. It saved a great deal of time in finding assets both on disk and DVD. Using the APIs we were able to present assets with a terms and condition check box before the asset was available.
I like that I'm able to organize all photo and video assets into one central location and have the ability to distribute only selected items to clients. I also like the ease with which I can add/update metadata for the assets. And I love the new video playback in Portfolio 2016.
I have been using Portfolio since 2008. I became very accustomed to using the desktop client. What I loved about that (which is something that the current Porfolio doesn't offer) is that I was able to see ALL assets in a given catalog on ONE page. Now I am only able to see a maxium of 500 assets per page. Now that Portfolio is 100% net-based, it is way slower than the old desktop client. I also don't like that NetPublish does not offer the option for user to download smaller sizes (they way you can at Shutterstock.com, for example). We use large high-resolution photos for print marketing, but these huge files are not good for our sales team who insert JPEG files into Word documents. In the old version, they would copy/paste the image from the details page, which is no longer allowed. If they could download smaller files, the reporting function for which images have been downloaded would be a lot more accurate.
We use Portfolio NetPublish to distribute our photo/video assets to our 54 offices around the world and to travel agents, press, and media. We would have a much harder time doing this without Portfolio. The benefit of having all our assets in one central location from which they can be easily distributed is vital to our business.
