The ease of use of Float it top class. From the creating of projects to assign resources to, creating of tasks in the projects and managing the milestones is super easy. The calendar grid format makes it really easy to see what resources are assigned to and makes it really simple to manage your resource scheduling. Access management is good too. The reporting is decent. The UI is a delight to work with. These days it is all about the user experience. We make use of the Float API suite too to automate the synchronisation (create, deletes and updates) of our team's approved leave request between our leave management system and Float. This saved us loads of manual work to ensure that information is the same across systems. There is not a lot you cannot do with Float.
The only small gap I have found is a specific operational reporting requirement I had that the reporting suite didn’t cater for. I required a daily view for resources that did not exist. While there is a weekly view, it does not seem to offer a day-by-day report that can be imported into Excel (through CSV or other means).
The Float UI is so easy to use. Doing resource allocation is quick and easy using Float. The API has helped us a lot and saved loads of manual work for syncing approved leave requests between our leave request system and Float. The reporting is good and covers most needs.
Simple and easy to use! All Cloud based! The overall program blows it's competition away. The quick & easy changes through the UI are simple and dont require a trip down the hall to IT!
Not much! Everything in the system is great. One improvement would be some more specific control as an admin primarily when it comes to what schedulers are allowed to use color code wise to keep the system UI clean.
Scheduling Fulltime & Freelance creative resources to elminate double booking and under utilized staff.
I loved the simplicity of adding projects, adding new resources and being able to see at a glance what everyone was working on - by looking at one schedule. I loved that it was cloud-based and could accessed from home or on any device. The help desk and support functionalities were great.
Our projects are short and some teams action a number of small projects ion a week and the schedule became messy to review, especially if multiple tasks in one day. Also, we needed a tool for staff to track time spent on a task and unfortunately the system didn't cater for this functionality. The Admin can become hectic if you don't keep a close eye on projects added and archived.
One view of all projects being worked on by the 'build' teams. Easy reports available to analyse capacity. In meetings we could access the info easily (cloud-based system) and the drill down to staff member level was great if reviewing each project individually.
It is simple to use and illustrates resources who are under-utilised.
The schedule id drive by resources, rather then projects. It would be good to select a customer and see what projects are scheduled and below that what resources are scheduled. This way you can see what projects are in need to resourcing.
it allows us to control the day to day work assignments of your team of consultants.
Easy to use, good UX, Really quick to set up and get going
Limited number of features, though this has only become a dislike now we are maturing the function, it helped with the quick setup!
We had to keep track of what our resources are up to - contractors, in-house staff etc. to ensure we don’t over-commit and deliver projects on time. There was no tool for this before so a quick implementation and ease of use were essential. Float is great for quickly giving you the information you need, simple to implement and yet usually sufficient for your needs.
Great user interface and very easy to use. Can manage multiple projects/tasks across multiple projects easily.
Reporting functionality could be expanded.
Visibility company wide for resourcing across the business. Also great results for the daily users who use the app to check their daily schedule.
Easy to look up projects and reports understandable for developers. Its a great tool to see where you stand withing your team and how much you are contributing to the overall project goals. It also tells you when to/when not not nag your teammate wheo is scheduled for a different work
Horizontal scroll on timeline is bit of a hassle
Budget estimates are clearly understandable for different roles withing the team and hence you know when to pace up and wear your superhero mask.
It's very VERY easy use and has such a simple and clear interface. There are not too many nobs and button to confuse you so working with the timeline is like magic
I would say that I would enjoy more of a modern look to the system even if it does not affect functionality
We are able to easily capture our time allocation on a week to week basis and with that in mind can easily prioritize our tasks per week. This just boosts efficiency and keeps developers focused on clients
1. Float is so user-friendly that even the tech novices on our team got the hang of it in no time. 2. No more overloading or underusing our team members – Float helps us allocate resources like a pro. 3. We can shift project timelines with a simple drag-and-drop – it's like magic. 4. Float keeps our team connected and informed in real-time. 5. With Float, we're able to plan for the future and make smarter decisions. 6. Float's reports give us the inside scoop, helping us make data-driven improvements.
1. Lack of a desktop app. 2. It requires one to login too often. It might be for security reasons. But there should be an option to retain the login if one's using a personal computer. 3. Another option I would like to see is to set the heirarchy of the team in Float. So assigning tasks can be more easier and streamlined. 4. A feature to add subtasks is missing.
Float has been helping us get a broad view of the team allocations and time tracking. Earlier we had a smaller team and we would do excel sheets but now that the team has grown so much, it was inevtable that we get something more user friendly. And then came in Float. It has made our life so much easier.
Easy to log time and create analysis around time spent and focus areas.
Honestly I haven't found anything yet that doesn't work well!
Time tracking is tough, and float makes it much easier.
A single panel of glass into what my group/team is working on now and what is upcoming.
sometimes the permissions get a little confusing
Seeing who is working on what and for which squad. As this is planned into the future, we can discuss upcoming work early.
You can filter down by project, title, names. You can also add details of the team members (what team they belong to, direct report or even simple tags like experience level)
When you assign a team member to a project, and they need to work different hours in different weeks, you have to create an entry for each segment. E.g. 3hrs/day in Q1 and 4hrs/day in Q2, and then the same in Q3 and Q4, you need to create 4 different entries. It gets complicated if you program by week.
I know the team members capacity and if they can be staffed on other projects
Float is by far the easiest project management software i've ever used. It provides reliable organisation, tagging and staffing needs that any user can quickly use and adapt to. What I like about Float compared to other software is it focuses on the work week versus project allocation budgets. Adjustments on time blocking, swapping staff, project codes and details are intuitive and minimal clicks. I find this is a well-rounded tool for group timesheet scheduling, holidays, isolating project milestones and holidays to our internal intranet so it complies with our data regulations.
1) I often find I/or someone on the team has made edits, they open an existing Float tab or present the pre-loaded Float screen and the changes are not shown. Screen re-loads are not always automatic, which is very frustrating when every manager may need to check the schedule 8-10 times a day and make edits. I don’t have time to also check with every person in the team if the changes are shown and they might need to refresh the screen. There should be constant automatic refreshing for all cloud based apps. 2) When moving a blocks of time sometimes people use larger than 1 week timeframes and editing requires re-building all other weeks after. There should be a quick split or clip function so I don’t need to rebuild 8 weeks if a person only puts 1 block of time start to finish. 3) When adjusting time blocks close to weekends Float always grabs the Saturday or Sunday block instead of the project block and extends everyones weekend on Float and notifies everyone even if you change it back quickly. Weekends/holidays should more locking functions that don’t allow this to happen. 4) We use Float in our weekly catch-up and screen share. When sharing the view is not presented as well as it could be with large scales taking up most of the screen. There should be a presentation mode, collapsed nav bar or way to highlight per person as we go through staffing.
Staffing and continious updates so all memeber have a collborative online view. Removed the need for a physical staffing board that would always be outdated by the end of the day
Float offers an intuitive interface, making team scheduling and project tracking a breeze. The real-time updates and integrations have significantly improved our workflow efficiency.
While Float is largely beneficial, I wish there were more customization options for visual themes. However, its core functionalities remain unmatched.
Float addresses the challenges of resource allocation and team scheduling in a dynamic environment. By providing a clear visual representation of tasks and availability, it eliminates double bookings and over-allocations. This has streamlined our project management process, ensuring that every team member is effectively utilized without being overwhelmed. As a result, our team's productivity has increased, and we can deliver projects on time with greater consistency.
How easy it is to log your time in. It allows you to add quickly and against differents clients/projects you are currently working on.
Depending on what the administrator has set up, it can sometimes feel a little bit rigid.
Time keeping and project management woiuld be the main benefits.
I am a new user of Float having recently started work at a company that uses it. I have found the transition from my previous scheduling software to be pretty seemless with minimal difficulty. The user interface is friendly and easy to navigate.
The main con that I have experienced is the inability to edit tasks created by others. I am not an admin but run a department and I am unable to edit tasks that I did not create.
Float is an easy to use software that helps my department keep track of scheduling, task management, employee time management and tracking phases and production line statuses.
Float is a great tool for project managers to track time and hours for our design teams including scheduling out projects for the year. Its simple and intuitive to use and quick to make adjustments during phases. has a lot of great quality of life features that definitly makes it more efficient to use over other products. For example it allows our team to make scheduling adjusmtents when projects go on hold, or have temporary stopping pooints as it allows it to organize our team to fill hours where it is needed.
Downside to float, is it makes it a bit difficult to integrate into our time and expense tracking software, but it is still quick to update to match, however it adds a bit of additional work to go back and match our expense software. I definitely wish it had some sort of integration like that to make it more efficeint for us.
This helps us plan out project hours for the entire year by adding teamamtes and availaiblity within our organization to help us maximise our efficiency with scheduling hours for projects. Albeit there are certainly some features we wish it had, overall it makes it easier for us to organize our team for critical project deadlines. In addition, it helps us see where we have time to fill and how many hours we have used/have left in each project phase.
I like the use of different colours to really separate different tasks. I also like how great the recurring 'task' features are!
I wish there was a better drag and drop function. I would find this very useful instead of needing to go in to tasks to change the date.
Float allows me to plan my day really well - I have uploaded all my clients thta I will use time to work on and I therefore use it as a planning tool rather than management.
Its fast and user friendly. team meetings go a lot faster now and we have more time to do actual work. One last feature is that make easy to coordinate work between teams in the company.
Our company accountan software is based on Deltek and we need to log time twice, one in float and one in deltek so it will be nice way for this 2 to interact or add a package for accounting.
Team scheduling and workflow.
Float has been designed well to have a intuitive user interface which is easy it to pick up and learn. Additionally, it promotes a balance between home life and work life as time recording encourages me to to identify signs of overworking. Overall it helps create a healthier and happier work life.
Time recording in general is burdensome or very administrative. I try to record my time at the end of each week as a habit but I tend to forget. I alos receive several promotion emails from Float which is a bit annoying.
Time recording plays a major role in efficient time managent which is a critical aspect of productivity and success.
