QuickBooks Desktop Pro Reviews: 4.3/5 — Solid Choice

Using Quickbooks is not as easy as people say it is. If you have never worked with an accounting software it is very hard to learn. But what I like best is that it keeps track of every single client you have as well as all of your suppliers and then will print out a list of both.

When putting in receipts into the system if you have no accounting background it does not tell you how to do this without having gone out and purchase the book Quickbooks for Dummies.

I used to have to do the payroll by hand, with the software all I have to do is put in the name and it will calculate what the hours were and what they are due. Then you can program it to take out the taxes.

It's familiar within the Quickbooks environment, there's a lot of support resources, and in the rare event the internet goes down, I can still work within the program.

It's very clunky and quirky. Not as intuitive as Quickbooks Online and the user interface isn't as good either. It's definitely an 'old school' program. Also, it's difficult to enable one click payment due to a bug within the system that is unable to be fixed without paying and additional fee to upgrade the next level version when it was a promised functionality with the original program.

Managing our accounting needs, and tracking all of the financial information we have. It's great benefit to have one place that is the Source of Truth in an accounting sense. No other software we use can give us this financial information in a way we need it.

I like the program and have clients who have used it for 20+ years. They were perfectly happy with the Desktop version and purchased a new one every 3 years if they had a payroll subscription.

Quickbooks is trying to force Desktop users to convert to Online and many do not like or want the Online version. Intuit has now changed the Desktop to an annual subscription that runs over $550. I think they have forgotten about the customers that supported their products all these years and are trying to take advantage of their corner on the accounting software market. Hopefully the demand for alternatives will now lead to less expensive alternatives for those small businesses that want a basic accounting software to track income and expenses.

QB Desktop Pro is not solving problems they are creating them with their price increases

QB Pro used to be good as it could be used on a stand alone PC.

It totally sucks as hard to update and expensive to update and cannot be used without web connection.

Used it for 20 years. Now it is not user friendly, hard and expensive to update. QBO is hard to use, we have it for one company. I am at the point of "anything except QB" for this little company.

Intuit QuickBooks is a widespread program and is commonplace amongst many accounting and financial institutions across many industries. Their customer and technical support are easily accessible.

While their customer and technical support are fast to connect with clients, they generally begin with a sales pitch for upgrades and do not deviate from scripted responses. Issues with software and billing are met with a duct-tape short-term fix, only to cause even more problems down the road that costs users even more in the long run.

I've been using Quickbooks Desktop Pro since 2007 and it's been the standard for as long as I've been working on a managerial level. Until recently (around 2015 or so), I found it a time saver with integrated payroll and tracking.

I like the ease of using Quickbooks to manage accounts, employee payroll, taxes and expenses.

The Desktop model is way slower and more antiquated than the online version.

I am using the Desktop Pro to manage finances for a small business. It is cheaper than the online version, but no where near as intuitive or user friendly.

Able to optimize my sales efficiency, it also allowed me to make sure that everything was correct and left no mistakes

I like the reports and the flexibility one has to customize them.

It allows non accounting types to think they are accountants. The set up makes it very difficult to correct errors especially in payroll items.

You can create purchase orders, quotes, and invoices. You can perform your essential AP/AR tasks.

It isn't really geared to do much of anything else. You'll end up needing other tools, which is OK, except for that since this is installed on a local machine somewhere that items must be periodically synchronized to third-party tools rather than being available in real time.

Couldn’t use it on my MacBook would only work on windows

I had a very difficult time with quick book I took an online class and bought the software but was not compatible with my MacBook was a waste of time and money.

That I'm going to dump them next December. I already tod them I don't want to renew this year but they charged me anyway. I don't have 18hours to siend on the phone with them to get a refund. Last year, I paid them and they kept claiming I hadn't and held my data hostage. That took weeks to resolve

Lousey customer service bad attitude and if they can't keep their own books, why should I trust a bookkeeping program from someone who xat keep their own books. Also link to my expenditures doesn't work and Wells Fargo even said it wasn't trustworthy anyway

The program consistently tells me that I “do not have permission” for tasks that I do everyday. I then have to restar the program. It would also be ideal if billing codes could be attached or suggested to their frequently used client names.

We use it to keep track of hours and services. It is organized. I’ve stopped using the desktop version and only use the online version due to issues.

I use Quickbooks for Mac 2016 to track finances for eight LLC’s that contain real estate investment property. Each entity must be treated as a separate company in QB for bookkeeping and tax purposes. I have used the product for years with general success. It has broad functionality, but the Mac version sometimes has bugs.

Intuit has announced the discontinuation of support for the desktop version for the mac starting in May of 2019. Converting to QB online would require me to purchase eight separate subscriptions. My accounting methodology utilizes the of ‘classes’ feature in QB, therefore requiring me to subscribe to the PLUS version. Total cost would be $50 x 8 companies x 12 months = $4800 annually. When I expressed concern to Intuit, they offered the following options: 1. Get rid of my Mac and buy a PC 2. Stop upgrading my Mac from OS and stay with OS High Sierra forever I see only two solutions that Intuit can offer to avoid alienating a broad section of the Mac community: 1. Reverse this new policy and continue upgrading and supporting QB for Mac 2. Offer a commercial solution by offering deep package discount for users like me would need multiple subscriptions of QB online.

Comprehensive book-keeping capability.

I did notice that the newest interface is nice and clean.

I have never found the customer service to be either quick or helpful.

The business problems it's supposed to solve...this seems like an odd question.

Ease of printing checks, simple reconciliation process.

Retainers are a nightmare, cant print invoices with outstanding balance or remaining credit automatically included, has to be handled manually per invoice.

If the bar association didn't require reconciliation in a certain way I'd just do this stuff by hand. Eventually the client got annoyed with quickbooks and switched to payment upon completion with no downpayment. Problem solved.

I like that quickbooks syncs to online accounts.

I hate it when a credit card declines and it shows PAID in green in the list of transactions. I complained about that the first week after their revamping or "upgrade" and it has never been addressed to my knowledge. So I have to open each transaction after we run recurring transactions. DECLINED does not equal PAID. Accounting software should not be like this.

Well designed software customizable for those of us with multiple businesses.

The cost to maintain up to date versions is ludicrous.

Business financial management is customizable. Quick graphic analysis is easily obtained.

This makes our vendors lives easier but it doesn't make our lives easier. Our whole cash flow is manually enter and we can easily miss things. Quickbooks needs better APIs so we can tie to easier to our own in house tools. They need a better software support team that will care about your growth and your sucess but there isn't any.

I dislike everything about it but I don't think it's the software to blame but my finance department What we need is a tool where it picks up all our data and creates all the invoices that we need. PO, Sales Orders, Invoices need to be sent out to everyone all at once. Not one per person. Slow on-boarding process for customers due to this software.

With this tool? Nothing. Our cash flow is hard to audit and that's dangerious.

We have been using Quickbooks desktop since 1995 and it has served us well until now. I like the flexibility and speed of the software.

Currently using Quickbooks Pro 2014 desktop version and every time i try to send an invoice or an estimate to a customer quickbooks crashes me out and i have to restart. Been having this fault now for 4 weeks and they still dont have a fix. They say the problem is across all of the Quickbooks desktop versions and they dont know when there will be a fix it is just not on. There has been a clear push towards making everyone go online and i guess they just dont care about the desktop users enough to fix the issue dont by this product as it is at the moment.

The best thing about Quickbooks Desktop used to be that you could use it for everything necessary for a small to medium sized business for accounting and bookkeeping processes. The support was very good and the value for what it cost was acceptable. It also used to be relatively reliable and not subject to file corruption etc.

The file structure is unbelievably fragile, with corruption and need for backing up happening at least once a week. Also, the online "features" such as "view my paycheck" and others are unnecessarily complex and often down and unavailable. Also, the cost of the product itself as well as updates every year and add-on modules that ought to be included at no cost has risen every year to the point where it is unaffordable now.

It takes care of basic business bookkeeping and reporting and, with extra cost addons, payroll. That's it.
