"Cheap but not robust"
What do you like best about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

- It's cheap; - I also like the dashboard arrangement, especially the left side navigation bar; - Able to add custom fields;

What do you dislike about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

- Not user friendly, not working smoothly. It looks like there are a lot technical issues, a lot of bugs; - Not show custom fields for manual upload; - It is hard to manage the contacts: when you delete a list, the contacts are still there; - Can only create 100 lists/account. Not enough for segmentation; - Sometimes can't get test emails although it shows they are being successfully sent out ???

What problems is Twilio SendGrid Email API solving and how is that benefiting you?

Just start using the SendGrid. But its templates work good now.

"Sendgrid gets the job done- but nothing flashy"
What do you like best about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

It gets the job done- we can send emails in bulk and see if the member has received or has not received it, if the email is spam, unsubscribed, etc- nothing fancy.

What do you dislike about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

SendGrid UI/UX is not user-friendly, especially since their last update a few months ago- users cannot see what kind of email we've sent to end-users, meaning we can't tell if it is a verification code email, marketing email, etc.

What problems is Twilio SendGrid Email API solving and how is that benefiting you?

The problem it is solving is basically allowing us to send emails in bulk to our users and also our company's member care agents can check on sendgrid if a particular member received emails or not.

"Some good, some bad"
What do you like best about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

SendGrid is very customizable and has a variety of features we use routinely, including custom unsubscribe links to help us keep our mail list sectors integrated with another database. Another handy feature is the ability to custom-design each section of your mailings through HTML coding. This allows you to place and set everything exactly as you want it, no relying on preset content cubes that you cannot fully customize. There is a nice little error signal when the code is incorrect beside each line with errors so you can easily identify where the error may be. Useful: HTML codes auto-populate the second half of whatever you're inserting, i.e. when you type <a> it auto-inserts </a>.

What do you dislike about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

However, HTML coding can be difficult and tricky. As mentioned, it auto-populates the ending tag for HTML, so sometimes it puts it where you don't want it, and you must remember to go back and move or delete it. Sometimes it misinterprets things in URL links, particularly the &, and flags it as an error even though there is not one. I'm not super advanced in HTML, so sometimes it's a LOT of trial and error to get something to display correctly. There might be pre-designed building blocks for general/common email sections, but I have never seen them. So if you're not an advanced HTML designer, this can be tricky to use. We have a graphic designer who sets up our new templates, then I typically just copy and paste an old campaign and update the links as necessary, but it still can be a LOT of work. It's mostly user error and lack of training on my end, but still frustrating. And be careful when scheduling--the default is set to schedule for the day AFTER you created/edited the campaign. I had to learn this the hard way when something I scheduled was not delivered as anticipated. That seems counterintuitive to me. Not a major deal, just something to be aware of.

What problems is Twilio SendGrid Email API solving and how is that benefiting you?

As mentioned, we use SendGrid to email communications to our members through a variety of mailing lists. We are better able to manage our lists with SendGrid and customize the emails to our exact specifications, so they look really sharp and professional.

"Started off great, but eventually price went up substantially and had many problems with shared IP"
What do you like best about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

The price at first was great. It was something like $2/month. We used for a couple years with no problems. It's also very easy to integrate with.

What do you dislike about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

We were on a shared IP address plan for a couple years with very little issues. Then our email stopped being delivered to a lot of people. We had to upgrade to a $60/mo plan with a dedicated IP address. We went from spending $2/mo to $60/mo for the same service essentially. We are looking at other options now.

What problems is Twilio SendGrid Email API solving and how is that benefiting you?

Easy to integrate with our custom cloud CRM software. Used to send transactional emails.

"Does Its Job"
What do you like best about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

Sendgrid is appropriate for what we use it for.

What do you dislike about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

It seems to have some issues with spam filters frequently, which ends up giving our email addresses bad spam ratings otherwise.

What problems is Twilio SendGrid Email API solving and how is that benefiting you?

We use sendgrid to send confirmation emails after they purchase a product from us. As I mentioned, it merely does its job.

"We use it as a server for transactional emails"
What do you like best about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

The customer support has always been easy to interact with.

What do you dislike about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

When looking up a user, you can only see if a message was sent, opened or flagged as spam. It doesn't give you the subject line of which email was sent (this could be due to how our business uses sendgrid)

What problems is Twilio SendGrid Email API solving and how is that benefiting you?

Sendgrid has helped us improve deliver ability of emails we send on behalf of our clients.

"Effort of in-house solution vs the flexibility and learning of SG is marginal"
What do you like best about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

The prebuilt templates really speed up the time required to get something working and compatible on multiple device screens and platforms. The drag and drop interfaces lets our business or marketing people work on the designs and content without much intervention from the development team.

What do you dislike about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

The prebuilt templates, while having their inherent advantages, are rather rigid in what can be done for customisation and the drag and drop wysiwyg editor is somewhat difficult to use. The pricing isn't reflective of the minimal value that the overall platform provides.

What problems is Twilio SendGrid Email API solving and how is that benefiting you?

Our web application periodically sends out transactional emails for events and actions by the user. SG allows use to get quickly setup.

"Great for transactional emails, not so great for marketing"
What do you like best about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

SendGrid Support is generally pretty good, with quick and helpful responses. The API is also good and allowed us a lot of flexibility in using the product. The email templates available are excellent and free of charge. It is also a good, cheap option for smaller organisations with less budget to play with.

What do you dislike about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

The Analytics tools are very difficult to use or to get any insight from - they're very much set up for transactional emails rather than marketing email campaigns.

What problems is Twilio SendGrid Email API solving and how is that benefiting you?

SendGrid allowed us to get set up with our transactional emails, and later to overhaul the design of our marketing emails.

"Multiple Issues When Upgrading Account"
What do you like best about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

SendGrid's user interface is well-designed and easy to understand. However, the functionality available leaves a lot to be desired. Generally, the support staff seems knowledgeable but have given me many wrong answers.

What do you dislike about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

We've been attempting to upgrade from a small volume plan with a shared IP pool to a large plan. We were told we could keep a shared pool but were later told after we signed an annual agreement that we'd been given the wrong information and would have to move to a Dedicated IP (we use the API plan not Marketing Campaigns). There was no guide on how to move from one plan to the other, and in reality it became a nightmare. What should have been automated by their system and their touted 'Automatic IP Warmup' in under 2 weeks, became a 6-9 week project and an additional sprint for my engineering team. We've been forced to manually warm our IP and change our software to regulate our send volume as their warming process does not work. I've spent almost 6 hours on chat sessions trying to troubleshoot issues with this product and have no dedicated rep to help me and have to speak to someone new every time. Because we are under a time-crunch as our old ESP gets sunset (Dyn by Oracle) and we've already done the API implementation, we're forced to stay on this system. But if I had a choice, we would not.

What problems is Twilio SendGrid Email API solving and how is that benefiting you?

SendGrid is our primary ESP for abandon cart emails and other action based triggered emails we send to our users.

"Worst service I've ever signed up for"
What do you like best about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

It had nice user interfaces, and if they worked it would have been great.

What do you dislike about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

Overpriced and disfunctional. Not worth your time at all. Avoid at all costs. Unless you pay $80/month for a single dedicated ip address (what a rip off right?) their e-mails will bounce and never get to destination due to spamhaus black listing, and there is absolutely no way to remedy. Totally unreliable dis-service.

What problems is Twilio SendGrid Email API solving and how is that benefiting you?

They are supposed to solve the problem that Azure won't send e-mails, and you are supposedly able to track the e-mails being sent

"Shutdown the service after two years just because 9 mails in a week"
What do you like best about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

Price and being an standard on lots of integrations.

What do you dislike about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

I have been using Sendgrid for years, since long before Twilio bought it. When twilio bought it, we started with bullshit, that insistence of theirs to force you to use 2FA, the "security" yes or yes and an interface that was getting more obsolete every day. I also had my scares due to traffic peaks that I found difficult to analyze where they came from, but because of laziness I didn't change the service since I used it in dozens of places. The last straw was when overnight (early Monday morning) they cut my service due to "malicious traffic from my endpoints", and asking me to fill out a super-exhaustive report, more than a dozen questions, to restore the service and all this, with response times to the incident of several days, meanwhile, everything stopped. That means, literaly, all my webs and services without being able to send emails. Talking to their support, they told me that it is normal, that they had seen that one of my websites had probably been breached, and that at such a signal they would cut to the chase. We are talking about less than a dozen emails in a week, in a contracted service of 50,000 emails per month, sometimes with peaks of 80-90k per month. Obviously, I contracted another service, and once I got over the laziness of having to configure 22 endpoints again, I won't go back to Sendgrid even if they pay me. The new service has a much more useful interface if any endpoint is used to send SPAM, and if so I will remove it and solve the problem. I won't say the name of the service, it is also one of the best known, but I don't want to advertise it for free.

What problems is Twilio SendGrid Email API solving and how is that benefiting you?

What do you like best about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

Not much. Sendgrid used to be the leader.

What do you dislike about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

Sendgrid now has crazy overage fees. Sendgrid's mission is to squeeze you out of every penny. Look closely at their extra fees or you'll get totally hosed for what used to be simply an smtp email service.

Sendgrid gets me more credit card miles because its so expensive.

"Used to be a supporter - Now, they have lost their way"
What do you like best about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

I used to be a strong supporter - even after changes to their offerings required me to upgrade from a $14.95/ month account to $89.95.

What do you dislike about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

I have previously written positive reviews about SendGrid, but recently, credentials for SendGrid users has been posted to the Internet (their fault?) and in my opinion, their reaction to it has been lacking common sense and have caused damage to my business by deleting my access without notification in response. 1. They have not fully disclosed to all of their users that there was an information breach - I know this because I have multiple accounts 2. It seems like they haven't even disclosed it to all of their agents (I spent hours working through fixing a compromised account and the agent did not share with me that there was a breach, knowing that I am launching an internal investigation into how the account could have been compromised. This was early on. 3. They simply deleted my access one day without notice - If you are using this for real-time email sending to customers, that is a big problem 4. Their agents have been sending threatening messages demanding is make changes to my opt-in lists. I don't have opt-in lists - I only send emails on requested internal app activities... 5. I have requested multiple times to speak with a supervisor and those requests have been ignored. I have many more things I could say, but at this point, I don't think they are trustworthy

What problems is Twilio SendGrid Email API solving and how is that benefiting you?

Sending on demand emails is easy now and delivery has only been a problem when people have marked the email as SPAM themselves

"Horrible customer support and truly set us up for failure!"
What do you like best about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

I honestly have nothing to say here. Go elsewhere with your money.

What do you dislike about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

We are going into a major launch that required us to set up a new, dedicated IP address, Sending Domain, DNS records, etc. I reached out to SendGrid to get help with this process. They offered me Support for a $5,000 fee. The rep on the phone didn't even realize we're already a customer (have been for 4 years) and spoke to us like we were a prospect. When we decided not to go with their implementation package (and instead went with Iterable, which is our ESP) they said they could offer NO support. They wouldn't hop on a call to give me an overview, wouldn't even take the time to send over anything beyond two generic support pages. We just launched our new IP, and it turns out SendGrid has been sending the emails from our other Sending Domain through this new IP. I have no idea this was going to happen – apparently you have to use subusers and IP Pools, but I get an error message every time I try to set up either – and they have now offered no support to help us fix this. Support Tickets take hours or days to get a response on, unless you mark it as a "complete outage." We can't use the support phone number because apparently volume is "too high." I have never been so livid or frustrated with a SaaS company in my life.

"Run don't walk. Choose a different provider"
What do you like best about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

It is free and the setup was easy. Purchased through the Azure marketplace.

What do you dislike about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

The service doesn't work. Customer service is completely non existent. We used this service for transactional emails. Sending of account confirmations and receipts from our website. With a reputation of 99%, our emails were continuously getting blocked with sending IP being blacklisted by Spamhaus and others. The shared IP pool we were in must have had numerous spam accounts. We were unable to get out of the shared pool. This has happened numerous times. After 4 days and a dozen tickets, I still can't get in touch with someone to purchase a dedicated IP to remedy the problem. Moving to another provider.

"Good monitoring but expensive and no IP reputation protection."
What do you like best about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

Good reporting export and activity data.

What do you dislike about Twilio SendGrid Email API?

Reputation protection is non existent .

What problems is Twilio SendGrid Email API solving and how is that benefiting you?

Wanted reliable transactional emails to reach our customers inboxes while making sure our email sending was monitored effectively to protect our IP and Domain reputation. Sendgrid is providing a similar set of features from other transactional email providers at a premium cost compared to other providers. We get good access to download historical data to use in our own app, and they have a clean, limited functional dashboard. Where they failed is when we did get exploited when someone hijacked our email script. The exploiter was able to send off more than 400K in emails through our mailscript before any protections kicked in by Sendmail. Our account typically delivers 1000 transactional emails a day, so for any type of reputation protection kick in until 4000 X our daily average went out within 3 hours means they really don't provide any reputation protection. Once they did finally stop queuing the emails, they were unable to remove the emails that had made it through (but not sent yet) to their deferral queue. So we were stuck for the next 72 hours while their servers tried to send spam emails under our account (350k of them) domain. Even though we knew they were bad emails and were already identified. So our IP reputation went from a perfect 100% to 20% over 4 days. Now most of our emails go to junk and we have to start with a brand new IP and rebuild our reputation over the next 6 months. Sendgrid told us it was our responsibility to monitor traffic and that they had notification tools (which we had implemented but didn't notify us of the unusual traffic until it was too late - very limited notification like "you've reached 50% of your monthly quota". Pretty useless when this notification gets sent at 2am on a Sunday). In short, they do not have the capabilities nor consider it their responsibility to protect your IP or Domain reputation. 1. They do not stop a send attack until your reputation has been damaged beyond rehabilitation (pausing sending emails at 10X our daily average to wait for our approval would have stopped this issue immediately). 2. They have no way to stop emails in their deferral queue even though they have been identified as fraudulent (we watched at these known emails took our rep down from 55% to 20% even though we knew they needed to be deleted). 3. They do not see this as their responsibility. Almost all other transactional mail service providers have the ability to add in hard caps to daily email limits and much quicker technical triggers to catch unusual sending activity (most would have caught it before 10000 emails were sent from our IP, instead of waiting until 400000 were queued and sent).
