The products, product options and categories are super easy to setup.
The actual web pages and things other than the cart and products aren't very pretty or easy to use.
I maintain a customers BigCommerce site who moved from another platform.
While Bigcommerce is not the best platform out there, in my opinion, it get the job done for most. There are too many levels to the platform. Out of the box they offer a lot of functionality to list and sell products but managing that data is whole different animal.
If Bigcommerce was not so app (third-party) dependant it would much better. In order to manage the data you have to use multiple third party apps to run your business. Two things that you can count on when using bigcommerce is that you will need an accounting platform, which you would need almost any system, and a shipping platform, if you are selling physical products.
One problem that bigcommerce solves is the structure of the data within your ecom efforts. Information that search engines need to list your business is found in the right spots, provided you have filled the information in within the system. I am speaking to SEO and when some searches your business, how the search engines display your result within them.
Very easy to create a new website and add their templates and its pretty well designed for you to pick any from your business style. Also very coder friendly HTML and FTP easy access.
They never supported my contact us box from being bombarded with spam I just had it turned off as they saw no solution.
Customers who need more production information and some sales here and there. I use bigcommerce for also keeping all SKUs for inventory very accessible.
They gave you a 15 days Free trial No credit card required.after that their Standard Plan is $29.95 per month. you get unlimited products, unlimited storage, unlimited bandwidth, credit card and PayPal payments with no transaction fee! You are able to sell across multiple channels like Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. They have great SEO tools to help you. they offer extreme scalability for online stores. Easy to setup and start running. They offer some free templates. good (SEO).
It can be a bit Complex terminology is unsuitable for new users. Limits are placed on annual online sales. There are no mobile apps available for on the go. The blog doesn't facilitate RSS feeds.
I'm able to sell across multiple channels like Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest.
What I like about bigcommerce is you have the freedom of customization of you're website but this website builder is not for beginners
What I dislike about this website builder platform is you can't put in custom api or photo sliders for advertising
I can take my business online and sell to my customers nationwide instead of local
Great customer support! The main product admin page allows you to do more on it than Shopify.
Lacks good sales reports. Have to pay for the largest pro account to get product filtering - which we did, but even then they aren't intuitive. The product options/option sets are bulky when you have thousands of products.
Better than the custom-built, outdated cart software we had before.
I think the best part about BigCommerce is the ability to customize the behind-the-scenes dashboard for different employees. This makes it easier for the employees to keep to the parts that they deal with, without getting lost in the other parts.
I don't like the theme customizer. Working with the code in the HTML/CSS editor is painful and impossible to keep well organized. Also, for the first 3 weeks, the code would not appear, so I couldn't do my job.
This software is excellent for running an online store. As the graphic designer, I think it's relatively easy to work with the theme and graphics. It is also nice that the code was customizable.
Big Commerce is a very easy to use platform that pretty much anyone would be able to use. The ability to manage 100+ products as well as 100+ promo codes is very simple and easy to manage. The front-end customization is great and anyone with a knowledge of CSS and HTML can edit the system fairly easily. It gives you the ability to add your company's feel throughout the site and makes the transition from out other CMS feel seamless.
As an E-commerce system it does not handle event registrations very well, since it is designed for products, but that isn't what they were going for with their platform anyway. My other complaint is that the analytics are awful. The reports aren't very comprehensive and they lack the ability to drill down on a lot of seemingly simple metrics that many users and managers want to see. Looking at customers, totals, and what products they bought in one report is literally impossible to do, so you spend a ton of time digging into either each order or user, they do not seem to exist on the same level. The lack of customization on the way checkout is completed as well as how products are displayed throughout the system could be improved, but it does work.
BigCommerce gives us a secure e-commerce platform that has worked without fail for 3 years. Zero downtime and has been very reliable.
We choose BigCommerce over other headless carts because the cost was cheaper. That ended up being a bad decision.
They inflate their cart's headless capabilities. So many out-of-the-box BigCommerce native checkout integrations don't work on their embedded cart. It's very frustrating, and the sales crew and technical sales crew won't tell you that. They are missing so many endpoints for customers and accounts, its very challenging to build a headless storefront with Bigcommerce, and I wouldn't recommend it.
We were hoping to run a headless storefront built on VUE.js with Nuxt...
It was helpful to create an online presence for our store.
It seems as though you need to be a strong programmer to create a dynamic and attractive storefront that is robust enough to grow with the business.
Big Commerce allows our company to have a nationwide reach.
I used this for several clients and brands. This 0latform does not allow many integration or plug ins like their competitors.
I used this for several clients and brands. This platform does not allow many intergration or plug ins like their competitors. The main dislike is the lack of an abandoned cart saving feature.
The platform is great for clients who are looking for alot of features with the best prices without addons
It's easy to use and it's helpful to manage sort data
Lack of customer service. It's poor. Their communication system went down, payment method expired, they admittedly due to internal glitch in communication failed to notify me, proceeds to take site down in peak season, and then offers no make good, proceeds to tell me we don't refund monthly fees?? Meanwhile, a small business during COVID LOSES TWO DAYS OF ONLINE REVENUE AFTER THEY FAIL TO MEET THEIR COMMUNICATION OR ANY COMMUNICATION OBLIGATIONS. THIS IS NOT GOOD BUSINESS. DOESN'T MATTER HOW WONDERFUL THE TOOL IS IF THE COMPANY ISNT WILLING TO PROVIDE SUPPORT AND CUSTOMER SERVICE TO A 6 YEAR+ SUBSCRIBER ON THE TWO BIGGEST ONLINE PICKUP HOLIDAY ORDERS OF OUR YEAR. THEN TO BE TOLD REPEATEDLY TOLD, ALBEIT THEY ARE ADDMITTEDLY AT FAULT, WE DONT REIMBURSE ANYONE EVER AND ITS MY OBLIGATION TO UPDATE THE CREDIT CARD DATE?? ARE YPU KIDDING HAVE YOU RUN A SMALL BUSINESS, NO ONE HAS TIME FOR THAT AND THATS WHY WE WERE SIGNED UP FOR AUTO PAY; ALL COMPANIES ON AUTOPAY NOTIFY THEIR CUSTOMERS OF EXPIRING PAYMENT METHODS TO AVOID THIS, BUT WHEN THIS ONE HAS A "GLITCH" AS THEY CALL IT, THEY DONT OWN IT. THEY SAY "OH WELL, LETS JUST GET THE ACCOUNT UP TO DATE AND YOU LOST WHAT YOU LOST. YOUR PROBLEM, NOT OURS." If not resolved to my satisfaction, I, moving to Shopify. I am gravely disappointed that a platform service as well designed as this one is not backed up by a customer service to match.
At the Moment, none. I have on th e past but now I have encountered the brick wall that is their customer service policy, which is more like a them policy vs a custo,er policy. Having over ten years running a customer service division in a prior company, not that the individual was rude (he was professional and calm), but the untenable, non custo,er focused script and facts he was using demoed to me that they are not trained for custo,er service but customer mitigation admitting no wrong and simply putting the entire onus on the customer. Again bad business 101, if u provide a a Customer w poor service, and it's ur fault, u make it good. No one is align for the potential revenue back but the least they could do is refund me a month fee of $30to make up for their own inadequacy and failure to provide correct communication
I like that it is so customizable, if you are experienced with website building then you can create a very complex website.
I don’t like how complicated it is to set up. It is not user friendly unless you are very experienced in web design. The website editor is very taxing on even very high functioning computers.
Not many problems have been solved. Just many more created.
I like the tools that you can use to connect. Especially credit card processors. They really do make that part easy.
Finding your way around a website is one of the most difficult things I've done, thanks BigCommerce. Thankfully my time with the client using the platform was minimal.
My client was a vape shop and needed to carefully navigate the ecommerce landscape. They did actually help with that.
In general it's good for getting off the ground with Ecommerce.
Whatever you save compared to other Ecommerce sites you pay for in add ons that bigcommerce doesn't include out of the box. The reporting is a joke and then you can pay more to get "insights" which are also useless. Setting up new channels like Amazon and Facebook never goes smoothly and ends up being a frustrating time suck.
Our big reason for switching to bigcommerce was to have almost 100% up time. That has been pretty nice to not have to worry about, except for that one time payments went working and they didn't warn anyone.
Direct URL (SEO optimization) Able to embed links, audio, video (most Ecom sites do this) Easy day to day interface, setup interface is a bitch.
Giving prospect the impression that they are web designer and code writers. Spending 3500 bucks because the above is untrue. BC involves third parties for everything Asian customer service, never the same guy twice. Paying 2% of sales AND paying a monthly fee
Have a reasonable Ecom store (after 3500 bucks)
Unfortunately other than API rate limits there isn't too much good to say about BigCommerce. The API is decent but customer service and enterprise experience isn't as promised
Crazy contracts that do not allow the fluctuations of business development and changes
Currently BigCommerce isn't solving our needs. They are aware and disregard the need to deliver the services and promises put forward
The SEO capabilities over Shopify and the lack of fees
Everything else but mainly the deception, rudeness, and lack of care for their clients. Halfway through our first year's contract, Big Commerce decided to tell us via email that the next year's annual renewal would need to be paid up front. That's over 100k up front. When we paid monthly. It took multiple calls, to get to the point of speaking to a finance director. A Mr Washington who had a melt down when confronted with his horror show of a plan. Long story short, he was extremely rude and had to be removed from the call but not before he stated on behalf on Big Commerce that our money was worthless to them. He also stated a bonus of paying 100+k up front was better invoicing..... so weak it's pitiful. The thing any merchant looking at using Big commerce needs to think about is this bit, someone being rude etc is not a good look but it's not the end of the world. Being told our money and by transference our time, effort blood and sweat is worthless is galling to say the least but taken alongside the fact they tried to pull a number on us in the most devious of ways says it all 1. They waited until halfway through the contract, knowing we had spent at leat 20k to move to Big commerce 2. they leveraged the fact that having spent the 20k most merchants would be stuck between a rock and a hard place and therefore would not leave 3. They leveraged the timescale in moving meaning a merchant or in this case us , would have limited time to decide how to move forward. it was calculated and done with real intent to harm us and benefit them The end result is Big Commerce can not be trusted, their platform is not exactly perfect by any means and the sales pitch is just that and not a reality. I warn anyone thinking of using Big commerce to think again, it's a clear and present danger to your business, and it will harm and not help it grow. As a merchant you're busy trying to grow your business and as platform they are figuring ways to extract more money in underhand ways from you. Shameful stuff
it creates more problems than it solves but it is a web platform with issues just like the rest.
I had a Big Commerce site in 2012 that I absolutely loved. We left the platform for a while and came back in the end of 2017. For a while things were pretty smooth. However, Big Commerce recommended me to a developer to build our site. They charged me $40,000and built a fully custom site that only they could work on so that they could earn another $3000 to $4000 a month. This is actually a good part of my experience with Big Commerce .
It was impossible to find anyone who knew how to work on the platform and all of the “preferred partners “did not know a number less than $40,000. Such a racket and a total scam. In 2020, I had all of the customizations removed and began to take care of the site myself. I was an enterprise client with dedicated level to support which was generally quite helpful. However, due to slower business from the pandemic, I really negotiated my rate in early 2023 to $1000 per month . apparently, that's not enough money to get decent support. They dropped me back to level one Support and often times the people I got new less than I did. I do not have the patience for that especially not paying that kind of money. I reached out to the CEO and was told by him personally that they weren’t going to do anything to help me. So I moved my Store to Shopify Plus. By the way, I was able to fully build the Shopify plus store all on my own have never built a site before. The tools made it quite easy to make a site that was far superior to my Big Commerce site in each and every way. I cannot even begin to tell you how much better the features are on Shopify. I contacted Big Commerce three times to put my site on hold so that we would have access to historical data. It took 3 emails for them to finally respond . When attempting to migrate the store, the format that their export tools put things in is impossible to format correctly for any other platform with regard to orders. When I finally heard back from Big Commerce about putting my sites on hold , these people actually had the audacity to try to even raise my rate to not even have the stores on their platform anymore but just have access to historical data. Did I wake up on another planet? WTF? Do yourself a favor and run to Shopify or Shopify plus. Superior support, incredibly superior platform.
None whatsoever ! So done with their awful service
I like that it's a fully managed platform with a range of third party plugins that can easily be added, though the plugins don't come close to those available on Shopify.
Their customer service used to be a strength, now it's a real problem. The agents used to be Americans highly trained on the platform. They've since switched to outsourcing their service and it's rare to get a representative with strong English who has a strong education on the platform. On my last ticket, it took me a three weeks to get an answer to a basic question. The first response came a week after my ticket was submitted and asked for my website and support code, both of which were in the initial ticket. The ticket was about a pricing error. On their website it clearly states their pricing. They charge a flat monthly fee for a certain amount of sales per year. Then they charge additional amounts based on "Online sales per year Calculated on a trailing 12-month basis." My plan allowed for $400,000 a year in sales plus $150/month for each additional $200,000 in sales. When my sales went up, my pricing went up. But then my sales went down, and my pricing didn't go back down. I submitted a ticket and when I finally got their response three weeks later, it said that they only automatically raise prices. It's apparently up to me to track when I'm being over billed and submit a ticket asking them to lower the bill to their pricing requirements. Of course, in the three weeks it took them to respond to my ticket, they had already billed me another time. And they will give me no refunds for being over billed. Nothing on their pricing page mentions this and I think it's completely misleading.
They give me a fully hosted ecommerce platform. I like that it's someone else's job to make sure my website is up and running 24/7. When I first started with them, they offered excellend service as well. Unfortunately, that has not remained constant.
