The conversion rate is high and there are a huge amount of jobs posted.
Nothing really - Clients have more control than freelancers.
Payment is secure and in escrow so your chances of not being paid are lower.
It provides a lot of tools to automate and simplify our work. And it's true for both sides, freelancer and client. It has a rich job search user interface that includes a lot of filters to build a perfect job feed that fits your needs. Also, I like their reporting system that has a lot of useful reports that you can use to analyze your productivity.
Their mobile app. I really don't understand how such a huge and successful company can't create a comfortable mobile app. Also, sometimes my clients experienced difficulties finding some functionality and I had to explain it with screenshots. My suggestion is to create some guidelines for clients on how to use the system.
One of the main benefits is security. I always sure I get paid when I do my job well. Also, I'm sure I will not pay for an incomplete job. As a freelancer, I use it for searching for great clients and for work time reporting with existing clients. As a client (business) I use it for searching for professional copywriters for our publishing business. It helps me to track each project's progress and finances.
New jobs are being posted all the time, which means you can always find a project that fits with your skills and preferences Significant number of clients are seeking an on-going working relationship The site is always evolving with new ways to showcase your skills and reach clients
For small and one-off jobs, the Freelancer fees are steep at 20% + tax The rules for maintaining your status badges on the site as not always clear (e.g. if you remove certain info from your profile (for example for being out of date) you can lose your Top Rated status badge but the site won't flash up a warning before you make the edit so that you can manage it differently.
I can reach a global pool of clients via Upwork. The client billing process keeps both sides safe and means you get paid for your work and no chasing invoices! Desktop time tracker gives clients a reassurance that the work is being done by you & has taken the time they are being billed for.
The UI UX is amazing. The clients here are friendly, pay amazing amounts of money, and you're free to work as you want, however you want, whenever you want, as much as you want. There's this diversity of clientele from all over the world, clientele that wants you to work with them on terms that you both agree to mutually, and you get to collaborate on projects that can either be huge or small, and feel a sense of fulfillment that doesn't come from working your average 9-to-5 job. I've worked with people from all over the globe, thanks to Upwork, and I can tell you with 100% certainty, this is literally the best thing to have happened to me, because, well, I've now got such a diverse portfolio that it's given me this innate confidence that I can just about do anything if I put my mind to it.
Quite literally nothing. I love everything about the platform. Green is my favorite color, you know. They used to offer free connects but don't now, but that's okay because that sort of breaks the whole market saturation thing, you know? It's like, now you have to pay to apply to a job and you get to apply only if you're actually serious about getting that job and not just spamming. I don't dislike it at all. Why would I? They have the best clients. That's a fact.
Okay, well, I'm a writer, and I'm working for publishing companies, digital marketing firms, and indie authors and artists from all over the world. This has helped me. I have to realize that I'm part of a problem so that I can start solving it. I wasn't this open-minded before. But when I worked with people from different races, different religions, different countries, different sexualities and orientations, all thanks to Upwork, I actually came to realize that we're all quite similar in tons of ways and not very different from each other and that each of us is trying to make their way through life, and that we must help each other wherever we can, whenever we can. I legitimately think that Upwork is making the world a better place instead of just putting it as a customary slogan. I love Upwork! I bleed green for life!
Pretty much everything works great - both for clients as well as freelancers! The user interface is easy to understand and use. For clients - high quality freelancers are available to select from that too across a wide variety of job categories. For freelancers - lots of job opportunities are available as Upwork does a great job of connecting clients & freelancers in a very simplified manner that works beautifully actually. Wishing Upwork all the best to keep growing from strength to strength and make the world a better place for all.
The automated hourly billing option could be improved/changed/removed as it leads to misunderstanding between clients and freelancers due to billing issues.
Finding great talent at agreeable rates to get business tasks done across job categories that too from people located across different countries. Its also fun to interact with interesting people from across the globe. Conversely, Upwork helps generate employment for thousands of freelancers globally. All in all, Upwork is truly contributing towards making the world a better place.
Whenever I need a specific talent or skillset for my business, I use upwork because I'm able to see how many jobs the freelancer has completed as well as their job success. I find that it's an easy way to make a sometimes difficult decision when hiring. I also like how they pay the freelancers thru the application based on when the freelancer starts and ends their work day per their hourly rate. If you ever run into issues with the freelancer or have a specific dispute that would lead you to believing you're not getting your money's worth, Upwork will refund you for the amount paid.
One downside to using upwork is the zoom virtual meetings through their platform are sometimes glitchy but it's manageable.
With Upwork I don't have to search on craigslist or random online sources to find a freelancer who may not be all they hyped themselves up to be. By using Upwork, they provide well vetted freelancers all in one place so I can feel comfortable about who I'm hiring. After using upwork on a regular basis, I've found that it's actually very beneficial to keep all records in the application such as uploading documents, communicating through the messenger or and using the call features. This allows everything to maintain in one place and will allow the upwork team to review any disputes if they ever arise.
I have been using Upwork for over 3 years and I rave about it to all my fellow entrepreneurs! As a Conscious Business & Mindset Coach with a growing business, I have continued to scale to multiple 6 figures but working with various freelancers to help me with multiple projects. Here's what I love the most about it: - Great talent pool from all over the world (I've hired freelancers from the USA, Philippines, etc.) - Intuitive platform for businesses to create new job opportunities - They handle the back end such as tracking hours, holding money in escrow, reviews, etc.
There's not much I dislike about Upwork. Like any place where you find freelancers, you must do your due diligence. It can take a lot of time going through profiles and the whole process but I've gotten better over time. I suggest getting super clear on who it is you're looking for and then getting specific when you search and hire. Not everyone is going to be great but that's the same with everything. Some may not work out and just learn from that experience and do better next time.
Since I'm a sole proprietor, I don't have the budget to hire anyone full time yet. So I love working part time with different freelancers depending on what I need and what projects I have.
Over the past 6 months, I have used Upwork for multiple projects including the development of our own progressive web app. The talent sourced through Upwork has been exceptional and they provided me a platform to shop around the world for the most experienced developers.
I have little negative to say about my experience with Upwork.

The escrow system is the best part of the Upwork which protect both Client & Freelancer. Also, the time tracking app is there to track the progress of the work and time so you can get the correct value of your work.

I want to become an independent designer and give my contribution to the various industry make their dreams successful. Ofcourse design and creativity is something which needs extra skills. I believe that I have that potential of creativity which I can give to upwork and earn out of it.

Upwork is an amazing freelance platform. I love their transparency and care for both clients and freelancers! I like how they protect both clients and freelancers to transact safely through Escrow. I like how they gauge the ratings for each completed contract. The fact that they categorize freelancers into classes is also amazing. They genuinely help appreciate valuable talent and it makes it easier for clients to select freelancers to work with. Upwork has recently started providing free connects to freelancers for responding to job interviews. Upwork's user interface is friendly and easy to use. Upwork also provides guidance to beginners through webinars and they also have a community where users can interact and help each other regarding how to use the platform or tackle arising problems. Upwork gives back to the community. Recently, it has been providing grants to small agencies.
