Payment protection is Upwork's best asset.
Initially, the fees. But if I think about it, we are paying for the protection and security from scam clients which happens to be frequent in other platforms.
I am able to manage and finance my home all while not having to leave its comforts.
The ability to see the range of bids and # of Upworkers invited or interviewing
The way jobs are sorted. I really don't see any downsides
I am currently both a freelancer and client. This helps me to grow my company's capabilities. Plus having so many creatives at my need is great
The fact that the demand and supply is managed quite well.
Nothing as such other than the fact that the scalability is an issue when you cannot add other team members and assign them jobs just because their profile does not get approved.
Financial problems. I have achieved financial freedom through this platform.
I like the payment protection process workflow.
Upwork is one of the best platform for the agencies like us, There's nothing bad about Upwork.
Earlier It was difficult to work with International clients but now with the Upwork payment protection, we are easily able to trust our clients for 60 days payment cycle. With Upwork, we almost earn $40,000 per month
Upwork is great for anyone who is looking to get started in the freelance world but also for seasoned freelancers who are just looking for a different method of finding new clients. It has something for anyone, beginners, novices, and experts, and the prices paid out reflect such. I also like how you can filter through jobs, to see whether it's something you actually want to do or not and if it's in the price range of what you're willing to do it for. Also Upwork seems to have a great customer service team, which I'm grateful for!
The fees, oh man the fees are rough. But it is what it is, I suppose! I always charge extra to offset it but it would be nice to have lesser fees.
Now that I'm a bit established on it, it's been really nice to have invitations to work so that I don't have to go hunting for work. It saves me time and energy...and money! Because when you get invited to a project, you don't have to use up your credits!
UpWork has a huge pool of freelancers that offer just about any service or skill required and do so on almost any budget.
My only complaint is the requirement to set a stated budget on projects posts. Sometimes I'm not sure what a reasonable number is and worry posting too low will deter quality bids, but too high will invite overspending.
As a start-up, we have filled roles from developers, to marketing, design, animation and even sales lead generation. We have been able to access on-demand, diverse skills that we simply could not hire in a traditional role at this stage of growth.
Access to projects and the tracking of the pay structure.
Many proposals go unanswered or not fulfilled.
Client's tend to pay freelancers last....if at all....Upwork makes the client accountable.
We can found a lot of valuable projects, great chanlleges and secure platform to work.
Maybe the hourly payments can be faster to the freelance. Now, we are waiting two weeks to receive.
I found projects around worldwide without spend a lot of time looking customers.
I love that you can look at freelancers ratings, locations, reviews portfolios, how much they have earned doing what you might need done and that Upwork really takes accountability with ensuring they provide screenshots of their work etc.
The only downside is the cost of connects or additional connects rather once you run out if you are searching for work. Other than that amazing site.
I have been using Upwork for so long that I remember when it was Elance. They have trusted freelancers and agencies. its the only place I go to hire for a multitude of projects. I've had virtual assistants hat I've worked with for years, I have worked with freelancers that turned in to long term friends and long term business relationships and more. I love the site and am now using it for things I never thought I would as I launch a new project. I have also used it to find work for things I do
Upwork continue to support my freelancing needs and target revenue.
We cannot please everyone. There are still clients/freelancers that do not adhere to Upwork policies.
I gained more benefits than problems. The problem I had was a good problem; how to meet and exceed clients requirements and expectations by working on the agreed budget.
Easy to use and great customer service when its needed. Which is not very often because it is very user friendly!
This software really is great, I don't have any dislikes on my end at this time.
Fining clients and being able to communicate with them effectively is very beneficial at this time.
I love how easy Upwork makes it to be seen, manage projects, and keep my client relationship in one place. I also NEVER have to talk money with clients; payment is regular and reliable.
The fees can be hard at first, especially if you do a lot of small projects. I view Upwork as an investment in marketing and arbitration, so I don't mind the percentage. The more you work with them, the more you are rewarded. I also dislike that it promotes hourly billing as opposed to flat rate; I'd use it more if it had better flat rate marketing options other than milestones.
I wanted a way to do my hourly marketing automation work without the fuss of manually tracking hours, trying to negotiate hourly rates, and trying to make sure I get paid on time. Upwork takes care of getting my profile found, making sure the contracts "stick", and getting me paid.
Upwork allows me to work from any location and any time I want. I'm free to choose my employer and I'm my own boss.
It takes time to earn a reputation to make decent money and wok on interesting projects, but Upwork encourage new talents by giving Raising Talent badge.
I find any projects that are interesting. Benefits is a place and time freedom, ability to choose my own pace of work.
I love how easy it is to meet new clients, stay connected with them and work together on an ongoing basis! I started on Upwork as a college student (2017) wanting to build up my design portfolio and now it’s turned into my full time career. So thankful for Upwork!
I wish payment were able to be processed a bit quicker but appreciate the improvements they have already made this year to make that happen!
I am able to work from home full time and not stress during the pandemic which has been a huge blessing!
I like upwork's metrics for each freelancer. we're able to see what their success rate is, how much experience they have based on the amount they've billed clients, their resume, their portfolio, freelancers do have videos at times to further educate us on what they can provide, and more. Also, i like the call and video chat feature as well. additionally, the ability to create milestones, pay based on those milestones, use screen capture to ensure freelancers are working when they're billing time, etc. all ensure we're not being schemed. it's nice to also have a platform where you know someone won't steal your money. payments are submitted by the client into escrow, basically a mid point between client and freelancer, that is only released to the freelancer once the work is complete. further, freelancers aren't reviewed on just a single 5 star scale, but multiple scales, which include availability, quality of work, adherence to schedule, and more
sometimes freelancers don't live up to what they initially seemed like they would. also, upwork takes a hefty 20% from the freelancer for the first $500 billed to the client, then its 10% all the way up to $10,000 (which is quite the jump). also, it's a bit of a headache having to have a new chat with the same freelancer for every job between client and freelancer. it would be easier if we could have the option to have one chat for all jobs with the same freelancer.
upwork provides a place to communicate, collaborate, and share files all in one place. also, it's easy to post jobs and customize them to your needs as a client, versus shopping around for a job.
The ability to vet clients and ask questions in advance of accepting the job is important to me. Upwork allows that to happen before a hard commitment is made to do the work. Not all clients are people I would like to work with.
I can't trust that Upwork has adequately qualified each client as being honest and trustworthy. I have to do that myself to be sure the relationship won't turn sour after accepting the job. However, some clients are good at masking their intentions and desires. Others simply don't know what they want and the job requirements change after award and not always for the better.
I seem to find clients that are late finding a freelancer to do their work and always want a fast turnaround. That's counterproductive and leads to a tense relationship. My value to Upwork is that I can usually solve the problem and get the job moving in the right direction. However, it gets tiring to always start out a client relationship in that manner. The benefit I get from facing these situations is that I get to improve my communication and negotiation skills to a razor's edge.
Upwork gives you so many resources to help build your business. As long as you are working the system properly, you can become a successful freelancer. It might look discouraging to take some low paying jobs at first, but these will help build your profile so you can get the hire paying jobs.
I'm not a fan of the 20% they take from first time clients. I almost didn't go through with Upwork because of that. But the system is significantly easier to use compared to other freelancing websites, so I gave Upwork a shot.
I have been doing freelance copywriting, article writing and social media marketing on Upwork. The benefits I am receiving is money. I get paid to do what I enjoy on my time.
Payment protection as long as all policies and procedures are followed
The fees are steep for new clients or small gigs. 10% is reasonable and makes sense, anything more feels like taking advantage
Finding great clients
Lot of positives: Financial Independence, You work at your own convenience, You learn a lot more.
Dispute mediation takes a lot of time. This really needs to be streamlined such that both parties have quick resolution
Most important benefit of upwork is the connectivity, you can reside in any part of the world and still get the best work done.
Upwork is an great platform where we can find work as per our skills and clients can get talented freelancers and agencies as well that can make their project/product successful. Moreover there is safety of earning as well by escrow. Also it provides direct clients feature that is more flexible for clients those are not on Upwork. Also we have chat option and video call on Upwork and now it introduces zoom call feature on Upwork as well. Also there are multiple payment method options to get paid and it's time tracker is also very great to use and also accurate. There are also multiple currency options available to get paid and client's can also pay in different currencies which is an plus point of Upwork.
There is nothing to dislike for me except one that is it's fee for membership and fee for contract's earnings and also now there is some percent fee for with holding tax. That is very expensive for freelancers and agencies as well. So this is the only thing that I dislike personally.
I'm providing services to clients and creating their apps/websites from scratch and also working on existing apps/websites as well.
