What actually decides your cost:
- The entry tier is priced eight times worse per user than the one above it. Basic at 1,000 MAU is $239 per thousand users; at 10,000 MAU it is $29.90. The step between them costs $60 a month for nine thousand additional users — about $6.67 per thousand. Unless you are certain you will stay under a thousand active users, the 10,000 tier is the rational purchase, and it is barely more expensive.
- Above 10,000 the volume discount essentially stops. $29.90, $27.96 and $26.98 per thousand at 10k, 25k and 50k — a 10% improvement across a fivefold increase in scale. So the meaningful economic decision is only whether you are on the 1k tier or not; beyond that, you are paying a near-flat rate per user.
- Overage costs about 3.5× your included rate. Basic and Advanced both charge $0.10 per MAU beyond the tier. At 10,000 MAU your included users work out at $0.0299 each, so extras cost 3.3 times more; at 50,000 the included rate is $0.027 and overage is 3.7 times that. The exception is the 1k tier, where included users cost $0.239 each — there, overage is actually 58% cheaper than what you have already bought.
- “Zero overages” is Enterprise’s headline feature, which tells you something. The Enterprise card leads with it, alongside 10% concurrency and OpenAI-powered moderation. Listing the absence of a charge as a selling point is a fair signal of how much the charge matters on the tiers below.
- Self-serve pricing ends at 50,000 MAU. Move the slider to 100k and all three plans read “Contact us” — Basic and Advanced included. So of eight positions on the slider, only four produce a price, and Enterprise is quoted at every point except 10k ($999).
- The free tier is genuinely complete. Build gives all features for up to 100 users with no credit card required — enough to integrate and test properly rather than evaluate a cut-down version. Concurrency is capped at 25 connections.
- Concurrency scales with MAU rather than being sold separately. Basic and Advanced include concurrent connections equal to 5% of your MAU — 500 at 10,000 users — and Enterprise doubles that to 10%. For a chat product that is the constraint most likely to bite unexpectedly, so it is worth modelling against your peak.

Its Build tier is free for 100 users with all features and no credit card, which is the right way to let developers evaluate a platform they will have to live inside.
The pricing has one decision in it and everything else is noise. Basic costs $239 a month for 1,000 monthly active users and $299 for 10,000 — ten times the capacity for $60 more. That makes the entry tier $239 per thousand users against $29.90 at the next step, and means almost nobody should buy at 1,000 MAU. Beyond that, the curve flattens sharply: $27.96 per thousand at 25,000 and $26.98 at 50,000, a 10% improvement for five times the scale. Two things to model before committing. Inbuilt Monetization features and WordPress Plugin. Let me start with the WordPress plugin which is easy to use and can be installed within minutes. Customer support is very very good, they respond immediately to any of the queries, tech support, or concerns we have. Their SDKs and APIs are straightforward to integrate and very flexible.
Their SDKs should be improved to support all the functionalities similar to API. Specific data is not available in SDK which is in API. A few UI functionalities are also missing in SDK like reacting to a message. The current reporting functionality is adequate but needs to improve on the ability to generate reports with more details.
Cometchat is really helpful in enabling chat functionalities in websites or mobile apps instead of building chat functionality from scratch. It helped to launch our product quickly to the market.
We tried out comet chat for their Audio-Video calling service, and their chat SDK. The developer experience especially with the Chat SDK was great, also its performance was quite decent - but our user base was not very huge, so not sure how well it scales. Also, there was a bug so we raised an issue on GitHub and it was resolved within 10-15 days with a new release. The documentation is great and easy to follow. We tried 3 different options and Cometchat's Chat SDK was the easiest to integrate.
It seems a bit pricy, and it might be fine with a small scale but with a larger scale, the cost might compound.

The lack of real support and the fact that it actually doesn't work as advertised , their integration with some of the scripts they say it works with just breaks a lots of the site functionality. On our site it breaks some of the SE functions (forums post), i just keep going around in circles with them it's like they don't want to help or even worse have no idea . Asked if they tested their integration with forum , never got an answer to that , they didn't even bothered to check on their own demo site .
