"Abstracts away a lot of pain with enough escape hatches back to code"
What do you like best about Sanity?

The extensibility and adaptability of this CMS is super impressive. I found it easy to set up and transition to in an existing codebase, and its approach to plugins/modularity is commendable. It's really nice to have a CMS that leans into a code-defined schema, and while I know a lot of them do this now, Sanity has been the best-implemented of them in terms of managing both ease of use and giving you deep granular control.

What do you dislike about Sanity?

The typing on the schema fields feels a little loose without installing plugins, and when you do install pluings, it can often conflict with whatever types you install (TS). But my biggest bugbear is the lack of out-of-the-box typing on GROQ queries. I am so used to using codegen to fully type my queries whether that be from OpenAPI, GraphQL or tRPC. GROQ feels flaky and scary by comparison, even if its a pretty powerful query language.

What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?

We have a bunch of very custom learning programs that require quite specific schemas that cant always be fulfilled by text/block/number fields. Sanity gives us deep control of the schema while still abstracting away all of the GUI components on the content creation end. PortableText gives us confidence that we can move if we need to.

"Great Headless CMS"
What do you like best about Sanity?

Very easy to use and teach my non-tech clients how to use the studio for content management. The basic/free tier is great in terms of accessible features. Integrates very well with Next.js, React, and Tailwind CSS.

What do you dislike about Sanity?

Some of the more intricate things about Sanity don't have the best documentation. Setting up a sanity project can feel complicated; there are plenty of video tutorials for this, but wish it could be simpler.

What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?

We needed a CMS that provided simple, easy-to-use content management, while also providing us full customizability regarding the design, format, and structure of the web app.

"Flexibility"
What do you like best about Sanity?

I used the Sanity hosted studio, which was about as simple to setup as it could possibly be. I still get to deploy my own data model, and customize the editor where I needed to. I'm using some plugins to enhance the studio (Dalle generating images for some posts and author profile pictures). I like that I can see what content other editors are in, so we're not clashing while making updates or content. They recently added the Studio API Reference, which is pretty interesting to dig into. I'm using Sveltekit, and Sanity has a few examples for that and a bunch of other frameworks which make it really easy to integrate.

What do you dislike about Sanity?

AI Assist is still enterprise only. I wish I could provide my own key or just pay some small fee to get that added directly to a free or more basic account.

What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?

Editing content in our last CMS didn't have 'in progress' indicators, so occasionally content would get overwritten by two people.

"Good stuff for Next and Sanity"
What do you like best about Sanity?

We have a big need to have a smooth content creation experience for authors and non-technical people, and I've quickly been able to set up a preview workflow. I think it should work nicely for our creators. The documentation have been pretty helpful as well, and I've utilized a lot of the example repos to set up a pretty complex but usable fetch pattern.

What do you dislike about Sanity?

There seem to be a lot of changes happening quickly, so I have found some examples in the documentation that seem out of date. The integration with Next has been smooth, but it would be helpful to see a more complex project that can handle the kind of scale we could possibly use Sanity for in the future.

What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?

Ease of use for our content creators

"The best third party service integration for Nextjs"
What do you like best about Sanity?

I love the integration with my Next.js API folder, which eleminates the need for separate hosting. Which means the whole application remains serverless.

What do you dislike about Sanity?

Working with Groq becomes a bit frustrating while in development, especially when we use custom Groq queries that lack proper typings.

What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?

We use sanity primarily for course data management. The most helpful feature is the scheduled publishing, which we use to automate discounts during sale periods.

"Great Flexibility and Freedom"
What do you like best about Sanity?

We started off of the NextJS template which made getting up and running very easy. It was easy to use their patterns as examples to customize what we were trying to accomplish. There's total freedom to create almost anything you want.

What do you dislike about Sanity?

The patterns of naming schemas and configuring "singletons" is not as simplified as it could be. I believe this is a very popular use case and should be focused on.

What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?

Needed an non-wordpress CMS to work with existing systems.

"Great combination of developer and author experience."
What do you like best about Sanity?

I'm building my first client website with Sanity, Nuxt, and Typescript. It was very simple to implement the Nuxt Sanity client. The community and documentation are great. It's extremely easy to learn and try out with a very generous free tier. The fact that it's completely hosted with a free tier gives me opportunity launch Jamstack sites with zero hosting and CMS fees to start, but with the option to pay for extra resources if needed in the future. I plan to use Sanity with eCommerce integrations in my current site build and in the future. Lots of great options and flexibilty to build whatever web clients may need.

What do you dislike about Sanity?

I have not run into anything I dislike for my use-case, which is building a fairly simple Nuxt website to host on Netlify.

What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?

Sanity is solving our need for a headless CMS that is quick to get up and running, and easy to build a web development system around. I can focus on building websites and the supporting data structure without spending time on managing servers and any other traditional CMS overhead.

"Sanity.io has become an invaluable asset for my content management needs."
What do you like best about Sanity?

The flexibility and speed with which I can create and modify data schemas is truly impressive. The intuitive and visually appealing content editing interface has made the process seamless and enjoyable. From a developer perspective, Sanity.io's API is incredibly versatile and allows for seamless integration into any environment. This capability allows us to create dynamic and flexible websites and applications with any set of tools and on any platform!

What do you dislike about Sanity?

Dependence on external resources - if access to the platform is temporarily interrupted, this can affect work and data availability. Difficulty for new users - it takes time to get used to the tools.

What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?

Structured content management. Solves the problem of disorganised and unstructured content, making it more manageable, searchable and consistent. Flexible schema. I can adapt the data structure to suit your specific project needs without being constrained by rigid schemas. This flexibility is particularly useful when dealing with evolving content requirements. Customisable editing interface: Sanity.io provides customisable and intuitive content editing interfaces. This allows you to design a content editing experience that meets your project and user requirements, improving the overall user experience. Versioning and History

"Sanity: A Modern CMS"
What do you like best about Sanity?

I'm the primary "content" owner of our website, and use Sanity frequently to update our website. When configured appropriately, Sanity is an incredibly easy-to-use tool to navigate, make edits, and manage our website.

What do you dislike about Sanity?

Media organization could be a little bit easier. The tagging system is pretty good, but easier management/bulk upload and tagging in the UI woudl be nice. Obviously, it is a headless CMS - there's a drawback to that in terms of developer cost.

What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?

Sanity gives us an easy UI to quickly and easily make changes to our website, spin up new landing pages, changes images, etc.

"Best CMS tool for Frontend Developer"
What do you like best about Sanity?

It is a developer-friendly tool. I like the philosophy itself. All content is to transmit data. I like the philosophy that. It seems to allow greater degrees of freedom and add more satisfaction from the perspective of the developer, not from the perspective of the designer.

What do you dislike about Sanity?

I feel like there would be more developer documents.

"Excellent CMS"
What do you like best about Sanity?

Sanity is a fantastic product for building frameworks for creating and editing custom content. It allows my team to edit content directly without worrying about waiting for an engineer to change the code.

What do you dislike about Sanity?

In my experience, there is a slight learning curve in creating and editing a CMS. I wish the schemas and structure builder could somehow exist in the same directories or files to reduce going back and forth.

What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?

Sanity allows our teams to create and edit the content served to users and visitors without requiring direct code changes. Thus enabling engineers to focus on developing frameworks and building product features.

"Simplicity and unparalleled flexibility"
What do you like best about Sanity?

That it just works. With a lot of other CMS products, there is not only a big barrier to entry, but a constant amount of maintenance required to keep it running.

What do you dislike about Sanity?

Sometimes we require some very niche customisations that need custom components built, but I feel that is more on us and how we use sanity than its limitations.

What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?

It allows us to compete in a changing market by providing a flexible CMS that can adapt as our business grows. It not only makes us more productive now, but into the future we are ready for any probems.

"A great CMS"
What do you like best about Sanity?

Sanity is powerful and pretty easy to use. It takes some learning to get started, but you can build a powerful backend for your content and it works well. I'm a fan.

What do you dislike about Sanity?

It would be really nice if Sanity allowed you to serve videos. Right now I have to use YouTube embeds instead. This is inconvenient and not that attractive (the YouTube embeds have overlays that diminish their appearance).

What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?

I built a portfolio in React/Next. I needed a CMS to deliver my images. Sanity is well-integrated with Next and has a powerful backend that's easy to use and customize.

What do you like best about Sanity?

The best thing about Sanity is how quickly I can get a back end spun up. The interface is intuitive and I can easily visualize what I want to convey for my database.

What do you dislike about Sanity?

I would love it if I could add Sanity records or update the records that I have on Sanity from the front-end of the site. Being able to access it more like a regular DB would be incredible. Heck, I might be able to do that now, I just haven't figured out how to.

"A Perfect Solution for Content Management"
What do you like best about Sanity?

I like the way Sanity's organization makes it easy to bring in original data formats and integrate them into new and existing projects. The cloud feature, which is especially beneficial because Netlify is integrated with the software, allows you to run schema progress tests locally. This gives users a head start with customizable technology stack templates rather than starting from scratch. In addition, the dashboard is scalable and flexible, providing a high level of control over CMS user activity when interacting with files. It's ideal for client-based businesses because permissions can be easily adjusted.

What do you dislike about Sanity?

I dislike the complexity of configuring portable text features and plugins in Sanity. The documentation and examples provided make it difficult to find relevant information or fully understand more complex concepts involved in these tasks. I would appreciate better guidance on how to use each feature, as well as concrete examples that could help me become a power user more quickly.

What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?

I needed a content management system that would allow multiple editors to contribute content to the website and have an interface that was both user friendly and appealing to engineers. Sanity offered me the perfect solution without breaking my budget.

What do you like best about Sanity?

Really love how easy it is to build your schemas as you go and mix and match components together to reach your goal! Also it's great that now you can embed it into your favorite frontend framework as a component and run it directly from that same hosting!

What do you dislike about Sanity?

There are not much downside with it, but I think what it's lacking right now is a bigger pool of plugins, especially official ones that are well maintained. It's getting there though!

What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?

Easy structured content management to implement to any frontend framework. Robust enough to answer all our needs to far. We can easily build some components that we can reuse in other projects, which will save us time in the future.

"From data structure to intuitive editor interface in no time"
What do you like best about Sanity?

Sanity gives us a flying start for new web projects; configuring and defining the project structure can be done in a few minutes. The resulting editor interface is often good enough to start publishing right out of the box. The editor is open source and can be customized using the built-in structure builder and custom components for more tailored solutions.

What do you dislike about Sanity?

The limit on the number of unique attributes per dataset can be challenging for complex projects. It could be a dealbreaker for some projects requiring lots of flexibility and variation, and it's something we keep in mind when considering Sanity for new projects. Even though there are a lot of built-in components with some options for how to display/organize them (conditional fields etc.), we sometimes find the built-in options a little lacking compared to other CMS solutions.

What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?

Sanity makes the developer experience of integrating a CMS into web projects quite enjoyable. We often use Sanity even when there isn't a project requirement for a CMS since the overhead is so small.

"Flexible and Intuitive"
What do you like best about Sanity?

Converting an object relation diagram into schemas and associations is intuitive and straightforward. Another nice feature of Sanity is the ability to use GROQ for multiple tasks: roles and permissions, data import and querying.

What do you dislike about Sanity?

Localization takes a bit of time to get configured with plugin(s) but is easy to work with afterward. The Vision Plugin for Sanity has been incredibly helpful for debugging and testing during the localization process.

What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?

Sanity is helping us streamline our content creation flows across multiple, Headless Shopify Stores and truly allowing content authors to preview their content before publishing.
