The most interesting feature that tawk.to provides is the ability to see what users are typing before they click submit. This allows us at work to really improve our customer service because you can see exactly what the user is thinking/wanting to say to you, and then you can use that information to tailor your responses. In addition, the next best feature is the team settings with the mobile app. With many remote employees, we were able to perform customer service across the whole HR team no matter if they were in the office or not, and that was really convenient.
The worst part about tawk.to is how the setup, customization, and configuration can be confusing. The settings specifically for email notifications are hard to understand, and I keep getting notifications about conversations I was not a part of despite trying to unsubscribe from them.
The major problem tawk.to provides is the ability to have a professional looking HR system that is only backed by a few employees that work remotely. Our small startup does not have many HR people; in fact, most of the people responding to questions on tawk.to are just the developers for other business personnel in the office that day.

So many things! I like that you can see what website pages the visitor has been to so you know better where to direct them. It shows what the visitor is typing before they hit send so you can prepare your answer quickly.
It tells you what city a visitor is in, based on their IP address I assume, but doesn't list the state. For our business, it is often necessary to know what state a person is in, it would be nice to know the answer ahead of time, but it is easy enough to just ask.
We are now able to answer visitor questions right away, so they don't have to wait for an email response. This allows us to get the visitors to the purchasing process as quick as possible.

We can work in team on Tawk thanks to multi-licences and whispers. I also like the gain of time permitted by the automation (triggers) and shortcuts for the most current questions.
The triggers misfunction sometimes. The visitors of our website can receive triggers as "How can I help you?" even in the night time when we cannot answer them (out of the programmed hours). Moreover it is not very easy to master at the beginning.

Despite marketing itself as a free service, I quickly discovered that the reality is far from the promise. First and foremost, the claim of being a "free" service is misleading. While they do offer a basic version for free, it's essentially a bait-and-switch tactic. Customization options are limited, and the design options for the chat widget are quite basic. The ticketing system only works with their knowledge base website and there is no option to import the data from your old knowledge base. One of the most disappointing aspects of my experience with Tawk.to was their inflexible and seemingly unfair refund policy. After realizing that the service did not meet my expectations, I decided to cut my losses and requested a refund on the very same day of purchase. To my dismay, Tawk.to outright refused any refund, leaving me stuck with a service that failed to deliver on its promises.

You can be as private as you want, and still genuinely help users. While this might be the standard in the industry, having the ability to chat with up to four people at any given time and see what they are typing before sending the email, makes a world of difference in replying promptly and accurately. In the same vein, having information like location and email permits you to tailor the experience based to the users' needs. Tawk makes it easy for you to send the transcript to the customer when they request it. One of my utmost favorite features is being able to have your colleagues whisper (write replies that are not seen by the customer) to you on the same chat, join the chat as themselves or impersonate you. This has come in handy more than once.
While this might be related to my settings, there were a few times when I didn't receive notifications about a new chat, until after the customer has left it. This required a multi-step approach - emailing the customer to have the conversation.
