Basecamp has evolved as a project management platform since its launch in 2004 but its mission to help remote teams stay organized, productive, and efficient remains. One new feature that Basecamp recently added is called Basecamp Hill – a visual representation that divides the component of a project into a phase of uncertainty, unknowns, and problem-solving (uphill) and a phase of certainty, confidence, and execution (downhill). This is on top of Basecamp’s core features which include a Message Board, To-dos, Calendar, Documents and Files, Group Chat, and Automated Check-ins. It’s a top-down and bottom-up platform for everyone in a business or organization – from proprietors and C-level executives to project managers and individual team members.

Hard to choose my favorite, but best would probably be the client management. Specifically, I like the feature routing creative with client. makes it easier than other software I have used.
With the recent change, they removed quick access to my assigned tasks (used to be in that right dropdown). Now I have to go to the home to get to it, and it just isn't as user friendly as it was before.
We're using it to manage routing of deliverables to clients, as well as storing client related deliverables. We use it to organize all our client related conversations around deliverable tasks, client feedback, and client approval.
very simple to navigate around the software
Looks bit crowded, maybe find different layout
clear on what is due every day.
I love that Basecamp brought a solution to the never ending email threads where information is bound to be lost in translation. I use it to manage a team of 4 plus several freelancers for design projects. You can keep projects all within one thread, upload documents and images, and expedite the process of approvals and execution.
There isn't much to say that I dislike. The ability to put in deadlines for each task is great. Perhaps the ability to add time deadlines or assign to multiple users? But that's not anything that limits me greatly at this time.
I'm solving managaing my teams in an efficient way that keeps my inbox less cluttered and holds my team accountable to deadlines and communication. I oversee video projects, graphic design, and social media so a lot of my role is approvals to get things to the finish line. I love that it incorporates easily with Vimeo, YouTube, google docs and more!
Collaborative To Dos, Easy to add To Dos
Most is great, one thing missing in Recurring To Do lists
Removing many communication issues. Keeps team members on task.
I like that my to-do's is set up by dates. It helps me keep track with all of my work and task before hand.
I don't like that I can share an to-do with someone. It's confusing to work on the same task in basecamp not knowing who is working on what.
None
Basecamp is great for quick collaboration between parties in different locations. Easy to share files, calendars, ideas, questions without making sure everyone is cc'd on a specific email. Definitely the best way to collaborate with a lot of different people on a project. It's also nice to have one place to look for everything pertaining to a certain project without having to scroll through old emails to find something. I also like that basecamp sends you an email notification when someone has edited a project file so that you don't have to keep checking for updates throughout the day. People of different ages and computer skill levels also seem to have no problem seamlessly integrating basecamp into their day-to-day programs. This is the first time I've used basecamp and I would definitely recommend it in the future for other projects that are collaboration-heavy.
I don't think I have had any problems with basecamp. Everything is really straight-forward and easy to figure out. I've never run into the site having difficulties or moving to slowly either, which is great when you have to upload a bunch of files and submit feedback in a timely manner.
I'm using basecamp in collaboration with other people to code/design our office's new websites. It's great for keeping everyone in the loop without having to be in the same office.
I like the versatitlity - you can create messages, to-do lists, and archive things to help keep current projects organized.
There's not too much I dislike - I use it almost daily and am really pleased with it. It would be nice to have a copy and paste button, meaning if I'll be adding thirty tasks for "newsletter copy" (for example), I have to go in and type out 30 separate tasks
I organize all our email, website, landing page, misc requests through Basecamp tasks and messages. I am able to retrieve elements from months ago really easily by searching and I can clearly see when someone has dropped the ball and remind them to turn in their piece.
Collaborative and easy-to-use; makes file sharing a snap.
More companies choose their own systems due to security, which is a total waste of efforts. I only dislike that BaseCamp isn't more widely used!
It was amazing for sharing files of any size, collaborating on edits, and tracking history of past projects.
Ease of adding tasks to a project I use primarily for remote project management on financial close, and it is very nice to have document images attached directly in BaseCamp. Ability to use @name and email members of the project is very helpful.
There really isn't much I dislike about BaseCamp. If we needed heavier lifting, I am not sure what features are available -- maybe it would still be great.
Use BaseCamp for financial closing where CFO is remote from CEO and Finance team. We have reduced the overall close time by 2 days. Review meetings also go much more smoothly.
It keeps project materials consolidated into a single place, emails the relevant parties of updates, and I don't have to mess around with file permissions (a la GDrive).
Basecamp has a window to drag files to attach, but this feature has never worked for me.
Coordinating between our dev/design/PMs/sales and the client. The benefit is increase efficiency.
Basecamp is the perfect tool for project management. I love that I can keep teams organized by secluding them into different projects and then make "to-do" lists for each task that needs completing. The ability to add Google Drive documents also makes collaboration easier.
I wish you didn't have to pay for more storage space.
I have been able to collaborate with outside vendors and keep tasks and projects organized. Basecamp has made myself and my team much more efficient.
The user-friendly and instinctive way to use Basecamp, as well as the number of plugins we can add to better manage our projects.
We can't add multiple people to the same task. We absolutely need to duplicate the task to make sure everyone that needs to work on it sees the task in their to-dos.
I don't know about the benefits, but we definitely solved a management problem with this tool.
The interface is very simple and easy to navigate. It helps groups document everything easily as well.
I have not run into a bad feature with this software.
My company uses this software to collaborate with another company that provides us services. We are always aware of the progress made in the project.
Simple UI Easy to add tasks Easy to communicate within the group Love the ability to attach images
There really isn't anything about basecamp that I dislike. It fits our needs perfectly.
Project collaboration for monthly financial close where CFO/CEO and accounting a geographically dispersed. Helps accounting team remain focused and organized and allows CEO and CFO to communicate on the closing process without needing phone or email. Has reduced close time from 30 days to 1 week.
I like the options available in basecamp to add specific people to specific projects. As the owner or admin on the account you can control who sees what. I also like getting email notifications on a project and being able to respond to the email and have it posted to the thread on basecamp. I like the tile view and list view combination to put featured projects at the top of the page.
The message area and the to-do comments all seem to blend together. It's sometimes hard to know if you are dealing with a comment on a to-do or posting in a message thread. I also miss the time tracking that was in the old basecamp version.
Project management is much easier when you can have all work posted in the same place. It keeps everyone on the project on the same page. It also allows for tracking old items that were done on the account.
Basecamp makes it so easy to create a game plan for a project, assign tasks, upload and share files and stay on target to meet deadlines.
At first I wasn't sure how to link other Basecamp projects created by other entities to my project so I could have one central home base. Once that was figured out it is so convenient.
We needed to keep everyone in sync with the work in the most productive way, and be able to monitor activities and progress on a project.
I love how easy it is for multiple people to be working on the same project. I've primarily used it for events, and it makes everythint such a dream.
My only dislike is having to get an email sent to me to login each time.
This provides one location for all documents and conversations about a project. It makes communcating so much easier.
Reminder emails sent to team once a task is created, shared calendar, timestamped logs of all activity. Everything!
File size limits are easy to max out when we have creative team uploading PSDs. Hate having to delete old files since I love having the history of the project all in one place.
Project management is easier, team collaboration so much smoother. Love having everything in one place with change logs.
Easy to track projects and keep up with to-dos; assign tasks for members of team. I spend 90% of my day in basecamp and track all projects through the tool, from inception to completion.
I only wish it did more - I wish it could also be used as a time/budget tracking tool so that every aspect of a PM's job could be done in one platform.
Project Management
We've used Basecamp with clients and with partners, and it seems to work for every team member, regardless of platform. I like the fact that there's a designated place for every type of communication, so I don't have to scroll through messages or perform a search to find the item I need.
It took me a little while to figure out how to share what I posted with specific people. Seems the posting and sharing steps could be combined.
Our last Bascamp project was a website relaunch for a client. Thanks to the To Dos and the threaded message board, we were able to stay in lockstep with everything they were doing. I easily uploaded both Google Drive and MS Word documents, and was happy to be able to share each documents only with interested stakeholders. With Basecamp creating a seamless interface between our client and us, they were able to lunch their new site right on time.
