CallHippo Expert Review

CallHippo sells unlimited landline and mobile calling for $19 per user a month, and its AI Voice Agent add-on costs $45 — more than the most expensive plan on the page. That inversion is the thing to understand before you budget. The phone system itself is cheap and the ladder is honest: $19, $30 and $39 a user on annual billing, with a genuinely free tier underneath. But the six-product platform sitting around it is priced separately and per user, so the plan price is a floor. There is a second thing worth knowing before you compare: set the team-size selector to 50+ and every price on the page turns into “Contact Sales.” CallHippo publishes rates for teams of 1 to 49 and quote-gates everything above.

  • What it is: A cloud business phone system with AI agents, WhatsApp API, shared inbox and a parallel dialer.
  • Best for: Sales and support teams of under 50 who make high call volumes across countries.
  • Pricing: Free tier; $19–$39 per user/month on annual billing. Verified August 2026.
  • The honest catch: Numbers, SMS, CNAM and the AI agent are all billed on top of the per-user price.

What Is CallHippo?

CallHippo is a cloud phone system built for teams that call a lot — sales floors, support desks, collections — with virtual numbers in around 25 countries and the usual VoIP apparatus: IVR, call recording, routing, transcription, CRM integrations.

What it has become is broader than that. The pricing page now lists six products that stack: the AI Business Phone System (in Essential and Pro Suite editions), AI Agents, an Omnichannel Inbox, the WhatsApp Business API, and a Parallel Dialer. The company claims 5,000+ businesses.

The Findstack listing carries 286 user reviews at 4.4 out of 5 — one of the larger samples in this category and a solid score for business VoIP, which usually attracts complaints about call quality and support.

There is a 10-day free trial with no credit card, and CallHippo states you can cancel anytime.

How CallHippo Works

The Essential phone system has four tiers, priced per user per month. On annual billing, with US/CA numbers and a team of 1–4:

Tier USD EUR What it adds
Basic Free Free Pay only for numbers; voicemail, click-to-dial, business hours, smart failover, SMS/MMS, WhatsApp Business API, 2FA, desktop and mobile apps
Starter $19 €19 Unlimited landline and mobile minutes, forward to device, ring all devices, AI Global Connect, country blocking, 100 SMS, free Omnichannel Inbox, call logs (1 month)
Professional $30 €29 Call recordings, multilingual IVR, cascading call distribution, custom greetings, 500 SMS, AI voicemail transcription, lifetime call logs, role-based access, call transcription
Ultimate $39 €39 Smart DID routing, multilevel IVR, call blocking, holiday routing, CRM-based VIP routing, 1,000 SMS, SSO, custom integrations, dedicated account manager, 24×7 phone support

Enterprise requires a minimum of 50 users and is quoted.

Two structural notes. The free Basic tier is more generous than most — WhatsApp Business API, SMS and MMS, mobile and desktop apps and two-factor authentication at $0, with numbers billed separately. And unlimited calling starts at the first paid tier, so you are not buying minutes up the ladder; you are buying features.

CallHippo Pricing

CallHippo’s four Essential tiers on annual billing — Basic free, Starter €19, Professional €29 and Ultimate €39 per user per month, with region, team size and currency selectors above

The add-ons are priced like plans

Bar chart comparing CallHippo’s per-user prices: Dashboard User $15, Starter $19, Professional $30, Ultimate $39 and AI Voice Agent $45

Line the published per-user figures up and the shape of the real bill appears:

  • Dashboard User$15 per user/month, for someone who needs web-app access but does not take calls
  • Starter$19
  • Professional$30
  • Ultimate$39
  • AI Voice Agent$45 per user/month

The AI agent costs 15% more than the top phone plan and 2.4 times the entry plan. If AI call handling is why you are looking at CallHippo, the phone system is the smaller half of your invoice, and a five-seat deployment on Professional with AI agents runs $375 a month rather than $150.

The other published add-ons are one-time or per-number rather than per-user, and worth knowing about because none appears in the plan price:

  • CNAM (your business name on outgoing caller ID, US only) — $100 one-time setup
  • SMS Servicesfrom $3/month, subject to US and Canadian A2P registration
  • Spam Watch$3 per number/month (US/CA), to monitor spam flagging
  • Remediation Service$100 per number, to get a number un-flagged as spam

That last pair deserves a moment. High-volume outbound calling gets numbers flagged as spam; CallHippo sells both monitoring at $3 a number a month and remediation at $100 a number when it happens. That is a real operational cost for a sales floor, and it is honest of CallHippo to price it openly rather than pretend it does not occur — but budget for it if outbound dialing is your use case.

Numbers are billed separately and their price is not on this page

The free tier’s headline feature is “Pay Only for Numbers,” which tells you exactly how the model works: the per-user price does not include a phone number. Every user who needs a direct line adds a number cost, and that cost varies by country — the pricing page carries a phone number region selector with roughly 25 options, from US/CA and UK through to Nigeria, Vietnam and Saudi Arabia.

What the pricing page does not do is show you the per-number rate. For a product whose entire proposition is international numbers, that is the one figure most worth having before you commit. Ask for the per-number monthly rate in your target countries during the trial.

The annual discount is roughly what it claims

The billing toggle promises “Save 3 Months’ Cost,” which implies 25%. Measured in euros, where both cadences were visible:

  • Starter €25 → €19 is 24.0%
  • Professional €39 → €29 is 25.6%
  • Ultimate €55 → €39 is 29.1%

Starter falls a point short, Professional lands on it, and Ultimate beats it by four points — which is the rare case of a vendor understating its own discount. Worth noting the page defaults to the yearly view, so the prices you first see are already the discounted ones; if you plan to pay monthly, click across before you budget.

One quirk: CallHippo prices each currency separately rather than converting. Professional is $30 in USD and €29 in EUR — close, but not a conversion. Check your own currency rather than assuming the dollar figure translates.

Above 49 users, there is no published price

Set the team-size selector to 50+ and every paid tier changes to “Custom Pricing — Contact Sales.” The Enterprise tier confirms it with a stated minimum of 50 users.

So CallHippo’s transparency has a defined edge: full rates for teams of 1 to 49, and a sales conversation for anything larger. That is a common and defensible structure, but it means the published $19–$39 range describes small and mid-size teams only. If you are a 60-seat contact centre, none of the numbers on the page apply to you.

What actually decides your cost

  • Seat count, which is the base meter across every plan and add-on.
  • How many phone numbers you need and in which countries, a cost not shown on the pricing page.
  • Whether you want AI voice agents, at $45 per user — more than any plan.
  • Non-calling staff, at $15 each for Dashboard User access.
  • SMS volume, since allowances run 100, 500 and 1,000 by tier before A2P charges.
  • Outbound spam exposure, at $3 per number a month to monitor and $100 per number to remediate.
  • Whether you exceed 49 users, which moves you off published pricing entirely.
  • Billing cadence, worth 24–29%.

Who Should Use CallHippo

CallHippo fits a sales or support team of under fifty that makes a lot of calls and needs numbers in more than one country. Unlimited landline and mobile minutes at $19 a user is genuinely cheap for what it is, the international number coverage is broad, and the free Basic tier means you can put a WhatsApp Business API line and a mobile app in front of a small team at no software cost at all.

It fits badly for a company that wants one predictable invoice. Between per-user plans, per-user add-ons, per-number charges, SMS registration and spam remediation, this is a bill with several moving parts, and none of the parts is expensive on its own. It also fits badly above fifty seats, where you are negotiating rather than buying.

Honest Pros and Cons

What works well:

  • Unlimited landline and mobile minutes from $19 per user, not metered up the ladder.
  • A genuinely useful free tier — WhatsApp Business API, SMS/MMS, mobile and desktop apps, 2FA at $0.
  • 286 Findstack reviews at 4.4/5, a large sample for business VoIP.
  • Numbers in roughly 25 countries, with a region selector on the pricing page.
  • The annual discount slightly exceeds its claim on Ultimate — 29.1% against “3 months’ cost.”
  • 10-day free trial with no credit card, and cancel anytime.
  • Spam monitoring and remediation are priced openly rather than left as a surprise.
  • SSO, custom integrations and 24×7 phone support at $39, which is inexpensive for those features.
  • 50+ integrations including HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, Zoho, Zendesk, Slack and Zapier.

What to watch:

  • The AI Voice Agent add-on is $45 per user — more than the most expensive plan.
  • Phone number pricing is not published on the pricing page, despite numbers being the core product.
  • Non-calling staff cost $15 each as Dashboard Users.
  • Above 49 users every price becomes “Contact Sales”, with Enterprise requiring a 50-user minimum.
  • Spam remediation is $100 per number, and monitoring $3 per number a month.
  • SMS is capped at 100 on Starter, with A2P registration charges from $3 a month on top.
  • The page defaults to the yearly view, so the first prices you see assume an annual commitment.
  • Currencies are priced separately, not converted — Professional is $30 but €29.
  • Call recording and IVR start at Professional, so Starter is a dialer rather than a phone system.

CallHippo Alternatives and How It Compares

  • Aircall is the closest polished competitor, with a stronger integration ecosystem and a noticeably higher per-seat price.
  • Quo, formerly OpenPhone is simpler and cheaper for small teams that want a shared number and a good mobile app rather than a call centre.
  • Nextiva covers the full unified-communications stack for businesses that want voice, video and messaging from one vendor.
  • Grasshopper is the answer for solo operators and very small businesses wanting a business line on a personal phone.
  • RingCentral and 8x8 are the enterprise incumbents, and the right comparison once you are past the 50-seat line where CallHippo stops publishing.
  • Vida and LucroVox compete only on the AI-agent half, and are worth pricing against CallHippo’s $45 add-on rather than against its phone plans.

The honest comparison: on raw calling cost per seat, CallHippo undercuts most of the field, and its free tier undercuts everyone. Where it gives ground is in the number of separate line items you end up managing, and in the fact that its AI product is priced like a second subscription rather than a feature. If you want AI call handling, price CallHippo’s $45 agent against a dedicated AI voice vendor before assuming the bundle wins.

The Verdict

CallHippo is a cheap, capable phone system with a broad international footprint and an unusually good free tier. Unlimited landline and mobile minutes at $19 a user is a strong number, the 286-review score of 4.4 suggests it holds up in practice, and its annual discount is stated conservatively rather than inflated.

The complication is that the phone plan is one line on a bill with several. Numbers are extra and unpriced on the page, non-calling staff are $15, SMS registration is extra, spam remediation is $100 a number, and the AI Voice Agent is $45 a user — more than the top plan. None of it is hidden; all of it is separate.

Build your quote before your trial ends, not after. Count calling seats, non-calling seats, numbers by country, and expected SMS volume — then ask CallHippo for the per-number rate, which is the only material figure the pricing page does not carry. If you are a small team that mostly needs to dial, Starter at $19 is excellent value and you can stop there. If you want call recording and IVR, Professional at $30 is where the product becomes a phone system rather than a dialer. And if you are over fifty seats, ignore the published prices entirely — you are in a negotiation, and you should treat the $39 Ultimate rate as your ceiling rather than your quote.

FAQ

How much does CallHippo cost?

Four tiers on the Essential phone system, priced per user per month on annual billing: Basic is free (you pay only for numbers), Starter $19, Professional $30 and Ultimate $39 in USD, or €19, €29 and €39 in euros. Monthly billing runs about 24–29% higher — €25, €39 and €55. Enterprise requires a minimum of 50 users and is quoted, and setting the team-size selector to 50+ turns every price on the page into “Contact Sales.” There is a 10-day free trial with no credit card.

What does CallHippo charge on top of the plan price?

Several things, all published. AI Voice Agent is $45 per user a month — more than the most expensive plan. Dashboard User access is $15 per user for staff who need the web app but do not take calls. CNAM setup is $100 one-time, SMS Services start at $3 a month subject to A2P registration, Spam Watch is $3 per number a month, and Remediation Service is $100 per number to clear a spam flag. Phone numbers themselves are billed separately and their rate is not shown on the pricing page — ask for it during the trial.

Which CallHippo plan should I choose?

Starter at $19 already includes unlimited landline and mobile minutes, so if your team simply needs to dial, that is the plan and there is no volume reason to go higher. Professional at $30 is where it becomes a real phone system — call recordings, multilingual IVR, call distribution, transcription, lifetime call logs and 500 SMS. Ultimate at $39 is for organisations needing SSO, smart DID and VIP routing, holiday routing, a dedicated account manager and 24×7 phone support. Above 49 users you cannot self-select at all; Enterprise starts at a 50-user minimum and is quoted.

Is CallHippo’s free plan actually usable?

More than most. Basic costs nothing per user and includes voicemail, click-to-dial, business hours, a smart failover system, SMS and MMS, the WhatsApp Business API, two-factor authentication, and both desktop and mobile apps — you pay only for the phone numbers themselves. What it does not include is unlimited calling minutes, which start at Starter. For a very small team that needs a business line and WhatsApp presence more than it needs high call volume, Basic is a real option rather than a lead magnet.

Does CallHippo’s annual plan really save three months’ cost?

Close, and on one plan it does better. “Save 3 Months’ Cost” implies 25%, and measured against the monthly rates the actual savings are 24.0% on Starter, 25.6% on Professional and 29.1% on Ultimate — so Ultimate beats the claim by four points. Note that the pricing page defaults to the yearly view, meaning the first figures you see already assume an annual commitment; switch to Monthly before budgeting if you do not intend to pay up front.
