I like the accessibility that gimp provides people looking for photo editing without paying big bucks.

I would love to see a "gimp academy" feature, because there is more that this software can do that I just don't know how to tap into

It's free and is an outstanding alternative to PhotoShop, with all the functions most people, including professional graphic designers, will need. I find Gimp to be as powerful and easier than PhotoShop. I don't work in layers, so can't speak to the ease, or lack thereof, of doing that.

Some functions can be glitchy, and even accessing the help function doesn't always help. But there are a multitude of online resources to help.

I've been using Gimp for years for advanced photo editing. I use other programs for simple editing, but when I need more detailed and/or targeted editing, Gimp is great. You can create PNG images with transparent backgrounds; delete and replace backgrounds; selectively edit colors; use a multitude of special effects; etc. You can orient a text box to match the orientation of an item you're adding text to (which my simpler programs don't do). Advanced functions aren't intuitive; looking up how to do things is a must. Also, Gimp can be glitchy. In particular, I've found the clone tool to be very good, but even when accessed properly, it sometimes doesn't work. This seems to be a common complaint. Sometimes the problem is that you're not in the right layer. But even in a single-layer image, I often have trouble, especially in the new version, v. 2.10.4. But there are also some improvements in this upgrade. I'm not a professional designer, so my knowledge and ability are limited. However, I've recommended the program to many people, and an advanced PhotoShop user recently told me he thinks Gimp is just as good. Overall, for me, Gimp is a perfect solution when my basic photo-editing programs won't do the trick. I highly recommend it.

Gimp makes it easy to turn simple pictures into specific graphical images that I can showcase in my work. I am impressed with what Gimp has to offer at such a low price (free!). I will always use Gimp as my first choice when editing photos for work or fun.

What’s not to like?? I am not experienced enough to know what I am not getting with Gimp. I am not sure what else you would need in a photo editing software. Gimp does it all in my opinion!

I have used Gimp for several purposes, but mainly I have used it to crop photos in such a way that makes original photos usable in publications and media blasts. I have combined several photos into one layer to make them blend together in order to convey ideas.

With GIMP is an easy to use software and allows you to manipulate the image. With the GIMP we are able to edit any picture and manipulate it to your likes. It have a number of features which helps you to edit any kind of picture.

I have found nothing to be annoying when i have been using the GIMP as it meets all the requirements.

Sometimes manipulating picture for the purpose of advertisement can be challenging. With GIMP we are able to edit and create images. The GIMP works best in creating product prototype during the advertisement period.

Gimp is a good program that is used for editing and retouching photographs, one of the most advantageous features that this software has is that it is completely free, in which you can see different files with different extensions such as jpg, tif, pdf, eps, png , among others. In it you can make coorizations in the photographs and images, transform the photos, make changes and coposition in them.

Gimp is used for editing and retouching in photographs but it is not as robust as Photoshop because it has fewer functions and makes its use more limited. As it is not so well known, there are few places where they provide software training and there is little technical support help in it.

I use gimp because I need to create and edit images and photographs and this software is perfect since it is a lightweight, easy-to-use tool and since it is freely licensed then a fee is not paid for the use of it, this makes it easy to acquire it, Install it and use it.

I love that it is free and open source. You can pick and download plugins people have designed for it for free.

I can't really think of any. I don't think you can make vector graphics with it, but I could be wrong.

Making art and graphics for my business for free. I don't have to pay for a subscription and it's pretty much the same as photoshop.

I like that it is free, which makes it easy to find tutorials for. I can easily make thumbnails for my YouTube videos.

I dislike that it doesn't get updates very often.

I am able to make clickable YouTube thumbnails. I can also edit Instagram posts to get more likes and followers, which helps my business.

I like the GIMP image editor, because it is simple and complete for editing and retouching images, it is easy to use and allows developers to create or edit an image quickly and professionally. Among its features is free software, and free to use and does not consume as much resource on my PC as it did with Adobe Photoshop. Accounts with good support and tutorials for better use. Among its advantages is that Gimp is cross-platform (Windows, Unix, GNU / Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris and macOS).

What I do not like about GIMP is that the improvements and the new versions take a long time to come out between one version and another and it took 6 years. In that aspect, photoshop has an advantage since every year a new version comes out with the corresponding improvements.

Government institutions are subject to compliance with decrees and resolutions. The use of free software within the public administration is compulsory. That is why for digital photographic design and retouching Free Software should be given priority, therefore the use of GIMP should correspond.

GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a full-featured stable image editor with many effects, layers, typeface features and it is available on all major platforms including Linux (my main working environment). It has excellent import and export features, especially optimizing for websites if needed, transparency features, filters and more! It is completely free to use with no restrictions and is open source. There are also 3rd party plugins and many scripting features for automated tasks which I have yet to even explore! It is extremely versatile and powerful!

It can be a bit difficult to learn to use due to the sheer number of features and options. The learning curve can be steep, and it is a bit different if you are coming from an Adobe Photoshop use background. It can take a while to load especially on older computers, but once up and running it is fairly quick. The user interface can sometimes get a bit cluttered and confusing and you really need a very large screen/resolution to fit everything in.

I am using GIMP for all my photo editing, resizing, cropping, transforming and design work. Since I am primarily a Linux user, this is my go-to software for any graphics work and is more powerful and stable than most other Linux photo editors (which will do some rudimentary tasks but also can be a bit unstable and crash).

It is a great alternative to Photoshop. The interface is very straightforward. I even watch tutorials that are in Photoshop, but I can easily transfer them to GIMP.

When you first open GIMP, you see three interfaces, which I hate.So the first thing I do is combine them into one, which is not too difficult to do.

I mainly use GIMP to edit textures. I would import a UV map into my project and then add the color I want to it. Once I have the texture that I want, I export it back into my other projects. The layer system in GIMP saved me the guess work when coloring my texture images.

The upsides are that it is free, and is compatible with brushes or other custom art like in Adobe Photoshop. The workflow is also quite similar.

The interface looks slightly more cluttered since many toolbars are open at once. I would appreciate a better user manual, and examples, included with the software

I am using GIMP to edit PNGs onto various backgrounds for creating custom memes. I also use GIMP as an alternative to Photoshop, to edit my photos, and sometimes for creating posters.

I love that it gives you the power of the similar more expensive photo editing software. If you've used Photoshop - you can easily use Gimp to solve your photo editing needs.

I might be doing it incorrectly but I seem to have to unpackage it every time when I use it on my Mac, I don't get the same problem when I use it on my husband's PC, this could be my issue and not theirs. I've had issues in Windows trying to find the photos I've completed and exported again and I'd like to see it more streamlined and intuitive.

I am able to create graphics and remove backgrounds of photos for my business which allows me to create professional graphics to market my products. Being able to get this software free of cost in a pinch when I realized that I was going to need more than Photos could offer was a huge game changer for me. It completely saved me when I was running on a deadline. It let me get a watermark on a photo that I was getting ready to upload quickly and easily.

It's free as in freedom and free as in no cost. Very lightweight with python script support. Many options and effects included by default. Really easy to select only one color or area with the magic wand tool. Native GIF support so you can create animated GIFs with a script in less than 5 minutes.

No MacOSX support, it only runs in Windows and Linux

Best editing software I've found to run on Linux. Gives me just the tools I need that most use Adobe Illustrator for, and that alone saves me a ton of money on costs.

The interface is much clunkier than Illustrator, so it take a bit of getting used to if you're coming from another editing software.

Helps save money for those who can't afford other software, and keeps costs low for small businesses or individual creators.

GIMP has a wide variety of characteristics, and it can be confusing for a beginner like me, who has no experience with any software for image editing. However, in a short time, I found how easy complex-sounding activities are, like adding a transparent layer or editing color ranges, between the aid documents and internet tips.

Além do fato de ser completamente de graça, o GIMP é bem direto e didático, tem tantas ferramentas quanto vários outros produtos do mercado e são bem mais simples de utilizar se comparados ao resto. O layout é bem simples e da pra trabalhar por horas sem se cansar.

Ele sempre demora a carregar as fontes do computador, o que acaba gerando uma lentidão no sistema e eventualmente para de funcionar nesse momento.

Agilizou meus trabalhos e pelo fato de ser grátis me ajudou enquanto estava desempregado, porém mesmo depois de levantar uma grana continuei usando ele por já ter me acostumado

When I need to explain something related to our networks and I need to take a screenshot and modify It I just open it into the application, remove the areas that are needed for clarity, add annotations and sent the modified screenshot made by gimp. It's not memory nor cpu intensive so even if I'm using a lot of resources in my PC this application does not impact the performance. With this application I modify things in literally one minute and save a lot more time since now the screenshot explains everything by itself.

It's perfect for my needs so I don't dislike anything.

Modify screenshots so people don't get confused by them and it's easier for everyone.

It's open source! There are a lot of tools and it's pretty easy to use.

There is nothing to dislike, unless you're on an older or economy computer. It starts up slow on old and cheap systems.

I have solved the problem of not paying for a subscription for photo editing.
