Compare WP Engine with other popular tools in the same category.
Singluar focus on WordPress, nice simple administration UI and continuous improvement.
It' more expensive than many other options, but ultimately for good reason so I don't mind the extra cost.
My website is a revenue producing site, so uptime and performance are critical. WP Engine is fast and super stable (I've had no downtime in the 3+ years I've been with WP Engine that I'm aware of) so I've never had to worry about the site performance.
The ease of use to set up and maintain. The amazing customer service with great customer support people. The fact that the site is secure because it's maintained by professionals without having to pay for a professional full-time myself!
The fact that I don't have root access to my server to install some custom things.. but if I did, then the site would not be as secure and most likely not as fast, so it's a tradeoff I'm willing to live with!
WPEngine allows me to build and maintain a solid website that is becoming a social network with users able to share and comment on the news media and political landscape and WPEngine allows me to pull all of this off very inexpensively!
Excellent support which is professional, fast and reliable is where WP Engine excels. Comibined with a great user interface, great uptime (99,99%) and competitive pricing makes WPE the perfect choice for our business.
It's hard to pinpoint a dislike, we've been over the moon with WPE so far.
WP Engine solved all problems surrounding hosting Wordpress sites. Hosting Wordpress sites is a very specialized sector of hosting websites as WP sites need to be constantly watched for security updates. WP Engine simplify that process immensely as well as providing excellent support and of course the most important factor, great uptime.
The support service, both technical an commercial services are the best I´ve ever experienced in the industry.
The jump from 10 to 25 users in the professional pack. I suggest there could be a more gradual offer.
Full managed Wordpress web hosting, with the highest security and performance for the websites, and the best technical expertise to back me and my customers. I can focus on my business and what I do better, relying on the knowledge, expertise and best practices of WP ENGINE.
After many years of trying a variety of hosts for WordPress sites (and a lot of problems), I am relieved to have found WP Engine. It is dead simple to use and ideal for anyone hosting WordPress websites. Not only is the speed amazing, but they specialize in Wordpress, eliminating a lot of common problems when setting up installations. Oh, and the support is quick to respond and highly skilled/technical. I've spoken to support I believe two times total, and every time they were quick to respond and very knowledgeable.
It's not the most frugal of solutions, but it's not crazy either. Let's just say I have tried many hosts, and with WP Engine, you get what you pay for. The reward is high-quality dedicated hosting and superb support.
WP Engine makes WordPress sites lightning fast. The regular backups are nice, and I never run into any issues with installation or plugins.
“WP Engine has hands down the most intuitive back-end to work with. It doesn't take a Full Stack Developer anymore to set up or manage an install, everyone in the office can do it. The features bundled with the hosting services are uncompared, our websites are faster than ever without too much hassle! On top of that, the client support is made of people who love WordPress as much as we do and they actually care about our installs when we ask for help.”
To be honest, they are one-step ahead of everything we have the chance to experienced in the past. Before WPEngine, I thought having a In-House Hosting Expert would be necessary, not anymore.
- Having a Staging Environment - Backup Everyday - Fast Hosting - Great Support
I love having a staging site so I can work on website changes and test them before pushing live. I also love having the ability to not only back up our live site, but also our staging site. This comes in handy especially when I'm updating plugins and may not be 100% sure they will work properly after making the updates. The products and services provided are well worth the $99/month we pay.
Nothing I can think of! I've had a couple of instances where the support techs weren't as helpful as they could have been, but overall I love WP Engine.
We needed a better way to host our website and someone recommended WP Engine to us. WP Engine makes it so easy to create 301 redirects, back up our site so we don't lose anything valuable, and now they offer free SSL certificates! Score!
The Metrics and info that we recieved from the service

We've been on WP Engine for 3 years now. Before switching, our site was slow and was regularly hacked. It was incredibly frustrating. Since we made the switch to WP Engine, our site is always up and running -fast! And since switching, we have not been hacked. They are constantly working on our behalf to make sure our site is safe, speed-optimized and updated.
Really, we no complaints. Wp Engine heads off problems before we are aware there was anything to be concerned with.
We're an interior design firm. Our website is our primary touch point and photo heavy. If our photos lack resolution or load slowly, people leave our site. We've not had that problem since we've been on WP Engine.
I love that it's easy to get in touch with someone whenever I need help, and they're incredibly knowledgeable. They've also made suggestions and given me tips to improve my page speed and security, which in turn has helped me improve my SEO efforts and traffic.
honestly I can't think of anything off the top of my head
The benefits I've realized is faster loading times on my website, which is incredibly important for SEO and for keeping people on your website. As a blogger, I need to try to get people to stay on my website and check out other blog posts.
Dedicated Server - moved over from HostGator and the performance is much better.
Nothing yet. More pricey than other options, but you get what you pay for which makes wpengine a good value for my purposes.
Running 50+ lead gen sites. Need secure setup with solid performance. WPEngine has provided that. Much less maintenance required on my part than I had to deal with with other hosts.
WP Engine is stable, fast and secure - which arguably are the three most important attributes in picking a hosting provider.
In order to achieve that stable, fast and secure environment, they do limit site owners from installing certain plugins that WPE determines will place an undue strain or weakness on their system. These are not fringe plugins, but mainstream plugins like UpdraftPlus. It is vital before initiating a migration to WPE or starting a new site, that you confirm plugins or other site features are allowed on the WPE platform.
Needed stable, fast and secure hosting. Got all three.
WPEngine's 24 hour support chat is one of the best support features they have. It's also great because there's very rarely any wait time to get a hold of someone. Their support staff is very knowledgeable and can help in almost any situation. Their Wordpress hosting is fast, easy and contains many incredible features and they have the best migration tools around.
Every know and then you get a support person who isn't as helpful as one would like. This is fairly rare though as mostly they are incredibly responsive (and people have bad days sometimes).
I owned and managed my own hosting company for 11 years and once I extricated myself from that, I needed to find a place to host client websites. I would occasionally refer people to some of the cheap, bulk hosting companies that would be ok for a while, but then the sites would be so incredibly slow! In terms of cheap hosting, you typically get what you pay for. When I found WPEngine, I stopped sending clients to other hosting companies and now manage them on my Pro account which gives me much better control over my clients projects.
Excellent user interface allows us to seamlessly manage multiple client accounts. Also, WP Engine's customer service is fast and helpful, and they are a terrific value for the service they provide.
We have yet to experience major difficulties with WP Engine, which is one of the reasons why we recommend them so highly.
We are helping a variety of clients with supported WordPress hosting solutions. Thanks to WP Engine's robust infrastructure, we are able to ensure the integrity and security of our clients' online data assets.
It doesnt get better than wpengine when youre looking to host your wordpress website. They make it easy to access all of your files, set up your website, and take care of all of your plugins.
I dont really have anything that stands out to me about disliking wpengine but the only thing I wish that we had access to was the files in the backend, being able to go through a file tree and see all of the wp-content and other files would be very helpful.
We built a wordpress website for a client and using wpengine made it as easy as signing up, purchasing a plan, and setting it up within an afternoon of talking back and forth with our client.
First of all, they are based in Austin. That's a win for me. I know most companies in Austin have incredible employees and they obviously do. Their support is impeccable. They fix issues extremely quickly and are so easy to talk to. Understanding and ready to help. Hosting has never been an issue with our big network.
Honestly, I don't have anything bad to say about WP Engine. Great hosting, great support, great everything.
Business problem: hosting with good support. Benefits: quick response time, massive hosting opportunities and easy to work with
I love that WP Engine has 24 hour customer support. I especially love that I can work on a site any time of day and have some one to chat with whenever I need it! They also help me with issues that are not even related to them!
The price is a little steep but very much worth it. It would be nice if you were to add installs as you need them. They allow you 10 installs and the next package jumps to 25 installs.
I am able to manage websites for my clients on a safe server. WP Engine can also fix any problem that may arise any time of the day and you don't have to wait hours!
- great speed - powerfull security - professional WordPress support - a little time waiting for the connection agent online chat - a great affiliate program
For me personally, a big gap between the Personal and the Professional hosting plan. If one more intermediate plan: up to 5 installs. Between 1 and 10 installs long distance. But it is a wish :)
Great opportunity staging website, easy to use daily backup, competent and attentive support.
Ease of installation. Awesome customer service.
Price. Additionally, I was able to intuitively use WP Engine to create a full-fledged website, but I would have appreciated a step-by-step tutorial as well.
E-commerce website.
The increase speed of our WordPress website which had become slow. The staging area so that updates and changes can be made quickly and easily. The support and guidance is second to non. Truly first class poduct and support designed for WordPress.
The price is more expensive than the average host, however for the support, and extra that you get for this price it is more than worth it. You will need an specialist to set up your migration so that it runs correctly.
Slow web site, affecting google rankings with the change in criteria. The opportunity to change the site and update without having down time or maintenance.
WP Engine is very fast hosting - and that was our #1 want from a host, but because they are a WordPress exclusive host they are very fast. That is the only thing they do. That said, they are on top of all of the security concerns that impacts WordPress. Their backups are fantastic, they warn us of any plugins that have a vulnerability, etc.
Honestly there isn't much that I dislike - it's maybe a little spendy, but it's great. I wish I could host simple HTML websites with them sometimes, because they're so good - but they are 100% WordPress only.
Faster WordPress hosting is part of Google's algorithm so it's great that we can get a secure reliable host that is so fast.
WPEngine has awesome Customer Support, their chat is always online and 99% of the time they solve my problems while in the chat window. When I do need to create a ticket they resolve within 24 hours. Service is extremely reliable and very fast.
Pricing is competitive but still a bit high for some customers to consider switching away from other value hosting providers. Also WPEngine does not offer email hosting so many clients have to pay for two hosts, one for email and one for their website.
Faster websites, the ability to develop in a staging environment and anytime backups. My clients now have better organic rankings, lower bounce rates and improved uptime.
The reliability of calling support 24/7 and knowing that a cool, knowledgeable and cheerful person will pick up the phone and solve the problem quickly.
Nothing really, one thing that is unique is how aggressive the caching is which makes our site super fast but needs to be reset frequently when updates are made. Sometimes this can be a pain, but the pros FAR outweigh the cons.
Fast, reliable and secure hosting for our Wordpress properties. WP Engine has put tons of time back in my day with their outrageously good support.
Big fan of WPEngine, we have hundred of client sites running on our WPE. High performance (sites can handle 100s of visitors at once without causing issues), staging site saves our developers so many hours of time, site migration plugin makes moving sites easy, support is responsive and 24/7.
We have run into issues where WPE causes double indexing which makes our SEO very poorly. We realized this quickly. Sometimes support isn't very helpful. They blame developers instead of their system. It takes a couple times to get through with them. Besides that it is a great choice. Mainly for the fact of the staging site feature.
We create Wordpress sites mainly. We needed to cut down on some hours so using WPE saved us hundreds of hours by using the staging site feature. That benefit itself is incredible.
They are continuously add improvements to all of our customers sites. They are responsive to both business and technical questions.
I am completely satisfied with our relationship.
We are a company that develops software for the Wordpress technology stack. WPEngine allows us to outsources 100% of the DevOps responsibilities to them. They are proactive in the engineering of improving how all of our customers sites are performing. They are responsive to both business and technical questions.
Immediate technical support by phone in the event of a problem is a lifesaver. But the ease of launching a new WordPress site is a close second best. The automatic backups are also a big plus. WP Engine is really a complete hosting solution for an independent publisher.
There's nothing to dislike. Even when an occasional technical hiccup like a DDS attack has caused a problem, WP Engine is quick to fix it and always apologetic.
For an independent publisher, the problem solved is finding inexpensive and reliable hosting. There's very little guesswork in using WP Engine for a WordPress site.
WPE is a reliable, solid provider with superb service. I've been routinely pleased with the quality of their numerous new hires over the course of each year I've been with them. Most providers become buried under the weight of their own success but so far, WPE has maintained exemplary levels of technical and support service.
They already fixed the one major issue with how they bill overages but beyond that, the lack of integrated domain registration and email service does require a great deal of added hassle on my end. the only other issue is if you are a provider that has a number of client installs where the majority are low traffic, their plans can be very limiting.
Consistency, security, and reliability.
Everything works. As it should. Every time. The support is excellent, fast, knowledgeable and professional. The site's uptime has increased hugely since moving to WP Engine and we (touch wood) seem to be avoiding being taken down by attacks; which used to be a regular occurrence. I can't compare them to our last hosting company because the differences are far too great. Very glad I've got our site with WP Engine - my only regret is that I didn't move our site earlier! For once the reality lives up to the expectations, which is unusual!
Literally nothing! WP Engine works and works well. It ticks all the boxes we asked for and more besides. They're constantly innovating (and importantly sharing these updates with us). To say I'm impressed is an understatement. They came highly recommended to me by someone I've known for a long time and trust. I would also recommend this company in a heartbeat to anyone looking for excellent reliability, speed and protection.
Having continuous uptime is vital as we have a worldwide audience and rely on 24/7 availability so our videos can be viewed and purchased. Our video download numbers have increased effectively paying for WP Egnine's costs (and then some). Our audience is located all across the world and WP Engine enable us to have fast response times to the site no matter where the users are located - something we couldn't achieve before and suffered lost sales and users as a result.
The best feature about WPEngine is the built-in one-click staging environment for every site that is hosted on my server. It has saved hours of time and is a real game changer for our business. We also love the support provided by the support team - it's brilliant and almost always able to fix the problem we are having.
1) The lack of 24/7 live chat. Being based in the UK we don't have any access to live chat for most of our working day and calling a USA phone number is costly. 2) the inability to change site name/site url from the WPE dashboard. When we create a new install there should be a box to re-name the WP site and tagline rather than making it the default one everytime. 3) the long way of having to change password for each new install via the 'lost password' function rather than being able to set it in the new installation box. 4) not being able to create a staging area from the WPE dashboard, instead having to login to the site each time.
We help businesses maintain their WordPress websites. We have realized many benefits of using WPEngine to host those websites including automatic WP core updates, backups, staging area for testing updates and of course the amazing support from your engineers to help fix problems on some of these websites.
The support team is top notch. The fact that we don't have to worry about client sites getting hacked is a big relief. Launching new dev setups takes a few minutes whereas with our old server manager and cpanel, it was always a big ordeal.
There's not much to dislike really. The setup process can be a little buggy but nothing severe. For a while the live chat wait time was a pain, but it definitely seems better lately.
WPEngine allowed us to ditch our Amazon server and the consultant we were paying a retainer to manage it.
