I have been working Adobe Illustrator for years. It is very easy to use. It is my go to software for making vector basked graphics. I use it for everything.
One of hardest thing with Illustrator is that sending files can be difficult. Also, there is very limited photo editing available with this software.
I can create awesome graphics.
1) Versatility: I use it both for work and for private projects; 2) Ease of use; 3) The new versions always have fantastic and fun news that I like to learn; 4) I find lots of tutorials to learn new techniques, on the Adobe site and in private tutorials; 5) I can integrate with other Adobe products, like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Indesign, Adobe After Effects and other.
1) I can't work on excessively large files because the software slows down (but it's probably a problem of my computer and not of the software); 2) not everyone uses it, so sharing files may be a problem; 3) It's a bit expensive for those who don't use it to work but only as a hobby;
After the initial difficulty of learning the basics, everything is easier. It's an intuitive, fun program, it's a pleasure to use it. Each successive version solves a problem of the previous one. It makes my work easier and more enjoyable.
I love how fast I can edit and improve the quality of my figures. I am scientist and I use this software often when I need to get professional edition of images that will be publish in a scientific journal. I can scale my images to any size and they look great. It allows to work with a lot of different formats, which is very convenient when working with images.
I need more time to get all the profit possible from this software. It offers a very complete package of image edition tools and sometimes I feel like I need to know more in depth how to use it. Navigation can be harsh due to the amount of tools to click on. Probably it would be very useful to include more auto shapes options. This software has the basic ones but it would be very beneficial to add more complex auto shapes. Compression of the files is not enough. Files are pretty large. Price. It is definitely an expensive software, but it is the most complete one. You pay it.
Great for: resizing figures, modifying colors, adding scale bars, aligning figures... any aesthetic adjustment needed can be made here.
AI makes it easy to build flyers and posters and provides easy to learn editing tools for design.
I honestly can't think of anything I dislike at the moment.
I use AI to design content for my company's website and to distribute to potential clients.
Illustrator is easy to learn quickly for creating print materials in-house. Many of the commands are intuitive and relate directly to other products you may have used in the past.
It is more limited than Photoshop if you need to make adjustments to artwork/photographs
We have moved most of our design work in-house!
There are so many tools in Illustrator and so many different ways to customize what you are working on and your entire workspace
It requires a ton of education and training. No one could completely teach themselves this program.
How to create an image/design from scratch! We have realized that this tool is essential for us.
Simple designs can be made to complete web pages to complex designs and complete product catalogs
the change between versions sometimes confuses and some tools change them
I make my own logos and business cards
Adobe Illustrator is the sharpest tool in a designer's belt. It allows full control over the creation and manipulation of vector artwork.
My only real complaint is that in changing from the essential classic view to the new essential view, I am not as readily able to find all of the tools I need. The change to the new look was too quick.
I am creating custom artwork daily for my clients. Things that can be printed at any size and are easily mutable for different needs.
Many features and effect in Illustrator to get basic shapes converted into intricate designs.
Some of the pen tools can be confusing depending on the state they are in at the time.
Taking raw images and converting them in vector graphics quickly. Great for getting ideas off the ground.
It's the only software program that i can use to open EPS files, I love the ability to change aspects of a vector file.
i dislike that it often can crash if you try to stretch a file that's too large.
I'm solving the issue of being unable to edit vector images without the assistance of an outside designer.
For vector graphics, logo design, and typography tweaks there is nothing greater than the Adobe Illustrator. The industry leader, and for good reason. Nothing compares to the quality of the tools, and the ease of ability to the Illustrator platform.
The price can be steep if you are not a daily user of the product. As well as, with so many tools inside the program it can take a learning curve to get everything memorized. If you do not use other Adobe products, you might not find this product to be as useful to you.
I use Illustrator for logo design, branding elements, typography tweaks, and print projects. The seamless transition between Adobe products, as well as the multitude of features make this the industry leader.
Working with the vectors to create art is very helpful as it keeps its formatting through all the changes you could possibly make. It helps our marketing department create everything from white papers to print ads.
It is a complex software that will take time to understand all of the ins and outs of the program to fully maximize your potential.
We are solving all of our creative problems. For every piece of collateral we publish we use Illustrator do create it.
This thing is a solid vector editor. From pen tool, to brushes, fancy lines or simple, Illustrator has you covered. Being able to convert raster to vector comes in handy fairly often. It isn't perfect, but considering some of the images I pass through it does a nice job. Some things like gradients and figuring out how to do rounded corners can be a bit tedious, but not bad once you figure it out.
There isn't a whole lot (beside paying for it) that I don't like about Illustrator. The two things that come to mind are 1) alignment - I wish it was like InDesign where one object was an anchor and all other objects aligned to it accordingly, 2) there is a key command in InDesign that allows you to automatically shrink a text box to its minimum size, Illustrator does not have that and aside from just being annoying makes it harder to align things.
Creating small graphics, icons, full packaging, flyers, converting raster images to vector, even creating booklets. As with any Adobe program, it's a solid program and helps us get our work done.
I love the endless possibilities this program offers to anyone in the art/design field. I'm telling you, it's a great tool to have!
I enjoy it all, obviously you can't always get what you want but Adobe Illustrator is by far the best thing out there and def. worth having/using!
It always helps me solve design problems. I've been able to create many more designs in different approaches because of the software as well.
I like everything that I can do in illustrator!
I dislike how it randomly freezes/quites
I use it for my creative needs at work
I love the ability to make your own flash. The ease of which to do it, while integrating the rest of the adobe suite is amazing.
There needs to be more tutorials available for beginners.
Designing flash for a business.
This is the only program that makes Vector graphics easy to change. I've never had such an easy time changing the details of vector graphics on any other platform.
It crashes more often than the other programs in the creative suite. This is not my favorite, but it's been more reliable in not losing any of my progress.
Problems solved using illustrator are any issues that involve vectors. This is the only program where i have been able to change the aspects of vectotrs.
Illustrator is very user friendly as it has tutorials within the app. You also have endless options for creating graphics.
I really don't have any dislikes about Illustrator.
I actually can do a lot of work on illustrator easier than I would be able to on photoshop.
The pen tool is very simple to use vs Photoshop version. One-click to trace raster images.
Adding gradients. Wish instead of creating a swatch and dragging over that you could double click the swatch with the gradient panel to choose from a picker.
This is my go to for any vector art. I've been tracing a ton of athlete signatures this year. Makes it simple with the pen tool.
Very complete and powerful software to edit pictures
It can be overwhelming with all the different tools to edit images
We use it to edit pictures that will be published in scientific journals
