Webflow Review: Is This the No-Code Website Builder You’ve Been Searching For?
The world of low and no-code tools is finally starting to take off. More people now have access to tools that help empower creators to bring their ideas to life, even with limited coding knowledge, and turn them into functional websites, apps, and more.
One such tool leading the pack is Webflow—largely considered one of the best no-code solutions available today. So, does it really live up to the hype?
Let’s find out.
What is Webflow?
Webflow has since expanded with AI-powered design assistance, built-in localization, and Webflow Optimize for A/B testing.
Webflow is (among other things that we’ll cover later) a no-code website builder.
It allows people with no coding experience whatsoever to create beautiful, interactive websites quickly and (relatively) easily. In just a few clicks, drags, and drops, you can have a professional-looking website with all the bells and whistles you could want—from parallax scrolls to e-commerce and beyond.
How Webflow Works
Webflow is what’s known as a “visual website builder”. It’s a system that translates the building blocks of websites (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) into a visual, drag-and-drop interface that’s more intuitive for beginners.
When you create a website from scratch in Webflow, you’re presented with a blank canvas. From there, you can drag and drop elements to build up your website—buttons, images, text boxes, forms… anything you need. You can also use integrated design tools to tweak the look of your website, add animations and interactions, or preview your work.
When you’re happy with your design, just hit “publish” and your website will go live.
Webflow Key Features
Designer
Designer is where the magic happens, so to speak. This is the interface you’ll use to build your website from the ground up—adding elements and customizing them to your liking.
To add elements to your pages, navigate to the “Add” tab at the top of the left-hand menu and drag the ones you want onto the page. You’ll find a bunch to choose from, including (though not limited to):
- images & videos
- text boxes
- buttons
- forms
- carousels
- CAPTCHAs
- Search bars
You can also add pre-built page layouts like columns, galleries, nav bars, and feature lists from this tab—great for getting the basic structure of your website up and running quickly.
Once you’ve got the elements in place, you can click on them to use Designer’s tools on the right-hand menu to tweak their look and feel. You can change background colors, fonts, borders, and more with just a few clicks.
Every element and setting in Webflow’s Designer falls under a heading that more-or-less describes what it is (or does), but the sheer number of options may still be intimidating for beginners. Luckily, there’s a decent tutorial that walks you through the basics when you create your first site.
Interactions
Interactions and animations are little details that add a ton of life to your website. In Webflow, you can use Interactions to do pretty much anything, including:
- moving
- fading in/out
- scaling
- skewing
- rotating
- toggling visibility
- and more
You can also use a pretty wide array of triggers to set off these interactions—things like first and second clicks, movement, and page scroll. These triggers, combined with the extensive range of actions available in Interactions, make Webflow feel super powerful—even for complete beginners.
Adding these interactions is pretty simple, too. Just click on an element, click on the “Interactions” tab in the top right corner of the design menu, click the “+” symbol, and choose your trigger(s) and action(s). There’s also a handy feature here that will optimize your website by deleting unused or conflicting Interactions.
CMS
Not all website builders offer a CMS, but Webflow does. With a CMS (content management system), you can create and manage content without any code—which is great for content-heavy websites like blogs.
To use the CMS, you just need to populate “Collections” (think of them as categories) with content in the form of “Items”. These Items could be blog posts, products on an e-commerce store, or just about anything else you can think of.
For every Item, you can link data fields that help Webflow make your content fit within the structures you build. There are templates for common content types like blog posts, which include fields for author, main image, title, and more.
Then, when you want to display your content on the site, just pick an element and link it with the Collection you want to show. For example, linking a “Blog Post” Collection with the columns layout is an easy way to create a blog post showcase.
Ecommerce
As a standalone system (without add-ons or plug-ins), Webflow’s Ecommerce feature is decent—but far from the best.
Starting with the good, setup is very easy. The e-commerce system is essentially the same as the CMS system we covered above. You start by creating Collections for “Products” and “Categories” and populating the Items within with thumbnails, photos, price points, descriptions… whatever data points you need. These Items and Collections can then be dragged and dropped wherever they need to go.
While Webflow has continued to improve its ecommerce capabilities with additional integrations and payment options, larger e-commerce businesses may still find the feature set more limited compared to dedicated platforms.
SEO
Last but not least, Webflow offers a few useful SEO tools that are worth mentioning. One of the most useful is the ability to automatically generate metadata using fields from your CMS Collections (e.g., [Brand] | [Product]). This will save you a ton of time if you’re consistently publishing new content within an existing structure.
There’s also a solid 301 redirects management system that makes it easy to migrate old URLs and web pages to new homes.
Finally, the site audit feature can help you identify and fix common SEO issues like broken links, missing alt tags, and poor loading speed.
What Makes Webflow Stand Out From Other Platforms?
Visual Focus
Webflow is focused on design and aesthetics. It’s something the tool does much better than most of its competitors.
Just take a look at the Made in Webflow page—the designs there are much more distinctive, dynamic, and unique than you typically see with no-code website builders. That’s all thanks to Webflow’s impressive visual styling features, like the Interactions mentioned earlier.
Of course, this does come at the cost of beginner-friendliness. Creating a good-looking website is harder with Webflow than it is with simper tools like Squarespace. It’s just that the creative ceiling is higher for those who know what they’re doing.
Educational Resources
On a related note, Webflow is one of the best-documented website-building platforms out there.
Webflow University is filled with lessons, tutorials, and full-on courses that help you learn how to use the tool. There’s also a wide-reaching community of Webflow users on YouTube and Reddit who regularly post guides and answer questions.
And last but not least, there are tons of no-code boot camps and programs that focus on Webflow specifically because of the freedom we talked about above. So, to summarize, there are plenty of options when it comes to learning Webflow.
No Need For Plug-Ins & Add-Ons
One of the biggest advantages of Webflow is that it doesn’t require any plug-ins or add-ons—it’s a standalone platform. That means you don’t need to worry about compatibility issues, third-party security risks, or learning a completely new system just to add a missing feature.
Plus, the platform’s robust feature set means you don’t have to worry about running into any roadblocks with your project. It’s all there… if you know where to look!
Webflow Pricing
Webflow’s pricing depends on whether you’d like to create a standard website or an e-commerce-enabled website.
There are quite a few plans for both:
Standard Websites
Webflow offers a free Starter plan plus paid tiers including Basic, CMS, Business, and Enterprise, each with increasing CMS items, form submissions, bandwidth, and content editors.
eCommerce Websites
Webflow offers Standard, Plus, and Advanced ecommerce tiers with varying product limits, CMS items, and transaction fees.
See Webflow pricing for current rates and plan details.
Webflow Pros & Cons
Pros
- Impressive design and functionality freedom
- Easy drag-and-drop design
- UI is well signposted
- Excellent educational resources
- No need for plug-ins or add-ons
- Great template library

What’s the Verdict?
Webflow is without a doubt one of the best no-code website builders out there. It’s also likely the most comprehensive—with features ranging from hosting to e-commerce. However, this power comes with a price—namely, a steep learning curve.

Provides a visual interface for manipulating CSS/HTML. It simplifies the web development process by letting you see the end result in real time as you create it. For designers, creative types, and visual learners, this is a game changer. The visual interface (called the Designer) uses prebuilt content blocks to quickly add containers, text, images, and much more which can then be customized however you’d like. The prebuilt content blocks are usually plenty for a typical website project, but you can also add custom CSS/HTML code if needed.
My only real complaints are the pricing structure and limited support for custom JavaScript. Webflow offers free tier plans, but you need at least a Basic tier plan ($12-15/mo) to use a custom domain with your site. However, you can export your site’s code if you’d rather host elsewhere. Custom JavaScript can be added using custom code blocks, but is not natively supported so you have to stick with basic scripts or figure out other workarounds.
I use Webflow for pretty much every client project. I can’t understate how much faster I’ve been able to build and deploy custom websites from scratch using Webflow. It’s easy to use while still being incredibly robust.
The most helpful thing is that you can easily edit and design a website. With the Webflow all you need is to drag and drop the content and you are good to go. It also have features that helps you in web hosting.
To me Webflow is the perfect foe web designing and hosting. I have nothing negative about Webflow.
We use Webflow mainly for Web Hosting and Web Designing. With the Webflow you can easily design and edit the web content without any struggle, just drag and drop.
I can do so much with Webflow, I no longer need a developer to turn my designs into reality
Because it's so powerful, there might be a huge learning curve
I've used this to create my personal portfolio site
You can build interfaces very quickly. The tools are very powerful and everything works very well. No need to be writing code or be an expert developer.
So far I have not had problems with Webflow. It is possible that something can happen but for the moment everything is going well.
It is very useful to create interfaces, prototypes and even fully functional web pages, everything depends on the type of project. In my case I'm a graphic designer and Webflow has helped me create the pages according to my ideas. This makes the developers have less workload and focus on the functionality of the web project.
You can create a complete website with professional templates, giving a very polished and current look. The interface is very nice.
It is a bit difficult to learn to master all its functions at first but it is possible to find intensive courses totally free.
Webflow helps a lot in my company, especially the graphic designers, since in my case I make the models in webflow and I pass them to the development department so they can be perfected.
Webflow is the right mix of accessible and powerful. The GUI is incredibly easy to use, appropriate for moderate beginners to experts, not too easy and as complex as you want it to be.
It could be a little more intuitive in terms of drag-and-drop layouts; sometimes the positioning is hard to get right and you have to wrangle it with CSS.
Webflow makes it easy to create websites for my clients that are unique and creative, but also allows me to get it done in record-speed. No more coding from scratch!
I like the ease of use with Webflow, you can have it online quickly. You should only use one of the Webflow themes. You must make adjustments to the theme so that the website really suits my way. After this, it's just a matter of saving and shooting the server. With the above described we could say that the web design was so simple with Webflow. I love the Webflow design interface, totally intuitive and really amazing components. Easy to handle in every way. The immediate form of publication in the design is enabled. A marvel.
There are very few templates that Webflow makes available to the creative mind and small or rigid companies. Must include templates or themes for travel agencies, photographers, video gamers and more. I would give 10 stars to 100 if it includes the necessary narration templates.
Users have had their presence on the web quickly and efficiently thanks to Webflow. Knowing that clients are not an easy task to use Webflow and do my job.
I like that you do some drag and dropping and also coding. I also that webflow shows the consumer how to use their product and use make fun projects.
It can be a little confusing sometimes, sometimes the coding part does not work the way you want it too or sometimes the drag and dropper do not place the photo in the way that you want it too.
I am able to produce my own code when designing a website and it makes it easy when I pass it on to developers.
They are fully HTML5 and CSS compliant and create clean code compared to competitors. You can do anything you desire, quickly and easily. You drag components onto the page, set properties, and immediately see the effect. They have CSS animation, grid, and parallax. They have a database backend, for example for storing products for e-commerce. I also like that if you are building websites for your client, they will automatically bill your client and add your profit. They have excellent and fun video training and respond fast to questions. They permit exporting the HTML and CSS, if you have the right account type, not the low end account. They have fast hosting. I really like that this software is usable by an advanced beginner that understands basic html and css, but is aimed at a professional, with features like flex and parallax, and is easy to use. One of the really great features of Webflow is that it is responsive and by clicking the icons for desktop, tablet, and phone at the top of the screen you can see what the page will look like. Not only that, but you can modify what will show for each device, YOU decide what shows and where for each device type. Amazing, much better than competitors in this area. Depending on the account type, you can have multiple projects, and pages within each project. It really is set up for a professional to be productive. Webflow has a REST API to modify products stored in their database.
What I dislike about Webflow is that, for most people, you will need to host with them. If you are using their backend database for products, then you can't move it to another hosting platform except as a CSV comma delimited file. Clunky. If you set up forms you can't export them. If all that you are using is the standard HTML5 and CSS then you're ok, and it will export, but I wouldn't think that is typical of most users. I have noticed that it appears they reboot their servers approximately daily. This is good because I haven't experienced problems, and bad because the hosting and design is not available for a few minutes. Other companies seem to accomplish this without going down at all, and I think they should, too. Althought Webflow does hosting for websites created with Webflow, and uses Amazon hosting, this is not a typical hosting platform, it is only for websites created with Webflow. You cannot import websites from other hosting platforms. Although they are beta testing a shopping cart for ecommerce, at this time you will have to connect to a third party shopping cart. Check to see if this is still the case.
This product is superb if you are designing top quality websites with high-end features like responsive, flex, and parallax, so it is great for website developers and advanced non-professionals. Since I do not like being required to use their hosting or exporting data as CSV, I use it as a high-end prototyping tool - do all the HTML5 and CSS in Webflow, fast and easy, then export it to a hosting platform that has a standard database back end. Alternatively, when I'm just using a static webpage, then I host it with Webflow since I can move it anytime.
I like the willingness to reproduce styles and elements, it offers a good layout of the website. You just need a little perseverance to get your own website and start receiving leads to your business, I loved the simple way to connect it with other applications like Zapier, which helps me to have the first relationship with my leads automatically This is undoubtedly a great advantage for those of us who focus on offering a quick response to our leads. Also something incredible is the ease and professionalism with which the blog looks, collections are something that can make a difference because in other platforms with a much easier administration and simpler processes do not yet have these possibilities, in general I think a platform Enough robust and professional.
Sometimes, the software does not allow me to scroll while I am in the designer quality. I also think about certain elements that the layers seem to vanish. Often, you can create a backup by clicking on collapse everything. Together, if you use a wacom tablet as a mouse, sometimes the scrolling capabilities also disappear.
We use it to develop web designs and web hosting, and up to the present it was one of the best programs we use when we talk about how easy it is to use and how fast the work is done.
Webflow is a good web design software. It have user-friendly interface and using Webflow is so easy. This is a great service for web-designers.
I have to pay adding more customs to my design. It woul be great if there were more free custom tools.
Webflow helps me to design cool websites for my customers.
Similar aspects to photoshop, this program is great to create a visual space for your website. Looks great and saves lots of time! As someone inexperienced in programming, this software helped me in every aspect to create a website.
Not as useful for complicated websites (such as a database)
Saves time and effort to create a website
Mir gefällt, wie wir Webseiten in Echtzeit gestalten können. Mir gefällt, dass wir das Drag & Drop-Tool verwenden können, weil es die Arbeit erleichtert. Alles, was Sie tun müssen, ist anpassen.
I like that this program offers web design from a developer's point of view.
The drag-and-drop capability could be improved.
I use it for developing my personal website. It has been very effective not only to lay out and design my site, but also as a content management system.
I like that I can easily make a webpage without a hassle. This program makes building my site quicker and easier than any program I have ever used.
I feel that Webflow is pricey for a startup webpage program for basic web design.
I am able to export websites to different platforms by using Webflow. This has been very helpful and time saving.
You can do a LOT with Webflow. It's better than any other website builder I've used. It lets you customize as much as you want, and comes with templates that make it easy to build good looking sites quickly.
There are a lot of coding concepts that make it hard to learn initially (i.e. the concept of a div with properties).
I was trying to setup an online portfolio. I was able to do that really quickly (in less than a week) using Webflow.
I like the fact that webflow has so many different options to choice from
That there are so many options without being more explainative right on the dashboard/ home screen.
The business problems that I have solved with webflow is to create professional websites
It really is a modern web designing program. It is efficient in customization of forms, with the use of drop downs, or bullets. Also this program is very straight forward and easy to use. They emphasize making sure that the website will be able to be viewed properly on mobiles, so I would say their mobile optimization is something I see they focus on more than their competitors. Another great thing is that they aren't inflexible with you using any font you want, I was able to download and input some of my favorite fonts.
That it is all code-free, I feel like that can be a disadvantage to those who want to customize their site a little bit more than what their templates offer. I was slightly disappointed about that because I love coding and with this it's almost like using other online sites that just have customizable templates.
Can get websites up faster than ever with this program as compared to coding programs. So there are pros and cons of their template only vs other programs.
I love that it's a visual representation of front end development. It takes the painful parts of web dev out - staring at lines of code, surfing between files, and trying to make sense of hundreds of stack overflow questions, to name a few. Specifying style no longer requires you to install yarn, or to refresh your local every time you want to see a change. The controls in Webflow let you play with style with just a few clicks, just as if you were designing in Photoshop or Sketch.
There are certain HTML attributes they don't support. While they've picked attributes that aren't 100% necessary and that can be achieved using other ones, it's still a little disconcerting. I've also exchanged wading through stack overflow for wading through webflow help forums, but it's still better.
I can freelance more easily now with Webflow. I have all my work in one place, and I don't have to bother with setting up super custom and complex web dev environments. I'm not a hardcore engineer so I really don't need any of that; Webflow takes care of all of that for me.
Not having a background in coding it was hard for me in the past to update our website. However, once we moved to Webflow it was so easy to have a customized website that I can update anytime I choose. It so simple to add new pages, re-arrange material or update images.
Sometimes when I go looking for help in the FAQ section they dont always present me with great options to fix my problem. However, their service team has always been super prompt and able to guide me to a video or overview that helps me figure out what Im trying to do.
My team needed a completely new website that was fresh, customizable and easily maintained. Webflow helped us achieve all three.
Webflow's user interface is very similar to Photoshop so it's an easy transition for designers with basic HTML and CSS web knowledge to make.
Working with divs and containers can sometimes be cumbersome.
We're using Webflow to mockup basic wireframes and test them. It's been helpful for us and clients to visualize them on sites and devices.
Super intuitive UI, builds clean code, built for designers
Haven't used it enough to find anything I don't like.
Moving away from Wordpress. Very much looking forward to not having to use dozens of plugins anymore.
Drag and drop feature for developing the websites. Simple to use.
So far I am only trialing it. I like what I see so far.
Building our intranet page so testing a few tools. The deal and drop feature is awsome.
The tutorials, forum, css tools and dynamic content.
Lack of integrations with their forms (google forms or mailchimp) and they didn't create a manual with all the buttons descriptions.
I created a great website for my startup without coding! I receive lots of compliments from customers and I'm improving constantly the UX.
Design flexibility and modern user interface. It's a great tool to build and design the website I want as it offers a lot of flexibility without much coding experience needed.
Not as simple as some other website builders I've used in past lives, but it provides a lot more flexibility and customization.
Consolidated all of our web pages, landing pages, and more within one platform. Provides a level of design sophistication we needed to deliver what we wanted with our brand.
The balance between having easy to use tools, with the customization features more geared towards a developer. I am not an experienced front end dev, but I am able to navigate the layers and customizations of the pages pretty easily.
The way the CMS works with the rest of the site. I cant publish blog posts until I publish any current editing work on other pages. So if youre working on a big page overhaul, you cant publish a blog post until those changes are published too.
I like the ability to copy over formats and elements we've built with experience devs, but then an average user can then replicate and build on for other pages. The navigation between pages, elements and CMS is pretty smooth too.
The ability to create an awesome and atractive website fast. Cool motionUI animations.
A bit technical for the general public. Limitations for people that do not have a programming knowledge base.
It lets us put marketing sites online fast to quick concept validation for marketing messaging and positioning
Easy to use and understand, even with a basic understanding HTML. Had learned to use it and built complex interactions and animations within 2 weeks. Without writing a single code of JS! Webflow University's also a great tool to learn. Probably a result of unintended consequence but Webflow is probably one of the best ways to visually learn advanced concepts like CSS Grid, Flex, etc, because you can see them changing visually with adjustments.
Pricing system can be confusing and is more on the higher end, especially for individual users and clients moving from Wordpress and shared hosting.
Quick turn-around with less effort, and save costs as we build in-house without otusourcing.
Webflow is great for anyone looking to design and launch websites. It will simplify your process with the design and template options that are on par with the latest trends but better than the standard drag and drop elements.
Not suited for novice or anyone with no website expereince. It would help if you know a bit more to truly maximize it's potential
We needed to build a secondary website as we launched a new product. Webflow is great as your team can collaborate and edit elements as needed without trouble.
